It might be free but if you’re continually being booted out of the queue in favour of the paying customers it’s not exactly useable. Unless you are content for the game to dictate what hours you can play rather than you dictating them to the game.
As for the rest FF still has a much larger cash shop than WoW does which was the point I was originally arguing against. However feel free to change the goalposts some more.
So if I take this statement on face value, why do it?, actually genuinely curious?
Because all you are doing is playing Blizzard’s game to make them money, you are basically working for them?
Someone, and I’ll be honest probably me pays for the token, I do so because I am fiscally comfortable and stable. This is one of my hobbies, and the only game I play because for over 13 years it’s been mine and my husband’s “joint thing”, and if you believe society now, my only vice.
So Blizzard are being paid more than a sub for your work in game, you have become an employee.
Now if you enjoyed the game, and got something out of it, then hell that’s all good.
However the disdain for them is palpable in your posts, maybe its time to stop facilitating them and giving them your time for no reward (hugs)
that is the sad reality of what is going on, and there really are people who take it to a completely different level.
Luckily this is also only a hobby for me. Although I do invest time in the game when I have time, I also do have a huge life outside of the game when I’m not playing.
But I have a comfortable amount of gold to not need to pay again for a long while.
But, although I don’t mind the subscription fee, I don’t like that they have created a system where buying a Token for gold replaces the things you would have done in the past for gold (or the things you need for day to day gaming).
I fear that when my Work/life balance is bit less chaotic (trust me), that I won’t be able to play without buying tokens to get by.
Not worth the money in its current state. WoW has been a game where I always come back to at some point, but then leave not long after because it’s just worse.
good post. yeah, people think they beat the blizzard system if they pay for their sub with gold, while actually they work for probably 1/4th of a minimum wage per hour FOR blizzard, provide the token market with gold and boost already fake game engagement numbers by doing mind numbing repetitive tasks. you’d prolly be better of working manual labor at a line in a factory, financially AND fun wise.
one more hot take: no, 12€ is not alot of money. yes, we all can afford it. but its the principles of what you get for that amount of money. if someone told you to buy a box of matches for 30€ you aint gonna say “dood i can afford that its peanuts for me, i make 30€ in one hour”…frick no, youll say “get the f out of here trying to finesse me, box of matches is worth 50 cents.”
Pretty much the same here, since start of BFA. I’ve reached a point though where I don’t even care about missing anything anymore, since ultimately, I no longer play the game as I used to.
It just feels far more rewarding to play other games casually and pay the 60€ price every now and then, enjoy it to fullest before going on my own business elsewhere. What is also so liberating is that I no longer have the urge to do weekly farms for some Wednesday Casino chest or daily 1-2hour Reputation farm for something that becomes useless in a patch’s time, or pugging with some of the most toxic community I’ve ever seen.
The reward really is the liberation from this sinking sheethole.
181.69 includes atleast 4 major DLC too right? In other AAA games I am becoming disillusioned. It feels like you’re paying 60-70 euro to pay for access to more micro transactions, look at FIFA (extreme example) Then there’s the battle passes, then there’s the DLC
WoW in my opinion represents the best value for gaming in the industry
Looking at the total money I would say; no it’s not worth it. But spending it every month it’s something I could easily spend it on the game.
I dont think at the end blizzard delivers what I pay for.
I really dislike a lot about the game… the necessary grinds, the pvp fixes that never happens. No communication or feel for the community whatsoever… and more tbh but what ever.
On a positive note, I do like the way pvp works. I think there is no other mmorpg that has a smooth pvp system as wow does. It’s pretty much the only reason I always come back at some point
Googlewack, I am so glad to hear that you view it as a hobby as well and are at least gaining something for your time investment!!
I do agree that the token should be an addition to support others whom through life commitments, don’t have the time to play as much as they might like. However as soon as anything begins to be about profits, then usually mechanics are used to ensure these profits continue. Way of the world, sadly.
However the fact that you do gain a modicum of enjoyment, heartens me!!
There is no denying it the system isn’t perfect, as bottom line our interests don’t align, We collectively want the game tailored to our individual specifications, Blizzard wants to make money.
They can’t please everyone, but they can try and ensure the money spigot never runs out.
Lets hope that while those of us, whom at present are happy with the game, that measures are taken to equalise the experiences of all. Maybe the councils will be useful in this.
Yet, I am too much of a realist to believe that some magic fix exists or would even be employed!
I remember a day when buying gold wasn’t necessary though (or even available).
You could log in during off-raid days, do about 30 mins of daily quests and have enough gold for all the Pots, Food and Flasks you needed for raiding or whatever you were doing.
I like to play the game fairly selfsubstantially. We needed to have a Legendary, the were crafted and I wanted my name on the “Made By…”, so I went out and crafted my own.
Now, the amount of work put into farming the Materials to Rank up to 4 (on multiple Legendaries as I had alts), was ridiculous, and something I would never have been able to do if I had not been on furlough at the time. sure it was extremely profitable along the way. But that’s how it was designed to be, A lot of work, so they were expensive, so players would spend gold, and many would buy Tokens to get the gold (at least in the initial months of SL when gold wasn’t so available)… all that for an unnecessary system which the game ultimately would have been better without.
Mage Tower. Sure it’s (just about) possible to complete in normal Gear. But with the availability of Professions Crafts and Pots and Food make the experience a lot easier. So make the event over tuned because players will spend gold on these items and buy WowTokens on the consumables.
Unfortunately Mage Tower backfired on the Blizz, because it was too overtuned and many of the Pay 2 Win players who bought tokens for consumables left empty handed, because not only it was over tuned, it also required tactics. So many players left with a bad taste in their mouth.
My point being. Because there are a number of Lazy players who don’t want to do the “boring” stuff to earn gold to do the raids and M+ or whatever, buy WoWTokens so they can skip the content. The players who do enjoy indulging in the game are left with more and harder work to do to get there, because Blizz want to further discourage the Lazy players, so they sell more tokens. Ultimately making the game less enjoyable for players like me.
the game just lacks soul…you can feel the remaining team has no vision, no passion…that its just a grind for most (apologies to the passionate exceptions)…probably none of the current wow dev team are true gamers that would passionately play their own game and it seems noone really has THAT knack to recognize whats fun and whats not, and ofc the creative ability and inspiration to muster it into existence.
I have to say tho. I’m not someone who thinks it’s good to do smoking, drinking, or eating unhealthy nutritions only because of appetite.
WoW can be a distraction in someone’s life, and a highly addictive one too.
Comparing one drug to another to excuse spending money isn’t a good one I think.
Yes.
Otherwise I would had unsubscribed long time ago.
Currently I’m subscribed for 6 months periods.
A couple of days I managed to complete the LFR Nighthold raid set for my Hunters, now I’m aiming for the Paladin set.
I don’t play the current expansion and I have no interest in purchasing it.
There’s tons of stuff I still need to complete in other expansions.
WoW is for me atm like a trading card game, having transmogs sets to complete in the place of cards.
Im in the same boat. I had my last straw with geartower. Made me cancel my sub and I havent even bothered logging in last week or two. Once FOMO feeling is gone its a eye opener.
So many games old and new on all different platform that offers hours upon hours of enjoyment.
