Don't remove Eye of the jailer

To be fair, none of the titan keepers can be taken serious. The only with a somewhat functioning brain was Loken and it was up for debate if that his brain working or Yogg-Saron. The whole bunch of them is a joke (this includes Raden. Whos arrogance was annoying when you got to him during 8.3 given he was punched into submission before and should have been very well aware that if we wanted to we could just force him to bend over and say “yes master”)

Which should have caused Aman’Thul in the very least to slap Odyn so hard across the face that he should still be flying through the cosmos. That he wasnt punished for this is just…well. Odyn either should have been executed for his defiance or put “offline”.

Odyn was the strongest together with Loken. However he was the most gullible one. Trying that with the other keepers (who would have brought this up with the others unlike Odyn) would probably have backfired.

I am in no way whatsoever spooked by jump scares but by god when the alien appears from nowhere and stalks you and has you cornered…

Still to finish the damn game. I get so far it’s “Nope nope nope!!!” And just boot up Doom Eternal and pretend I’m fighting xenomorphs instead of demons

I can only say: I very, very strongly disagree.

It’s not scary; it’s irritating.

My warmode will be off, always. :relaxed:

I don’t think the intent of the Eye was to make the zone more threatening, it’s more like they wanted to prevent hard Stygia farming and having players with all conduits maxed out in the first weeks.

The problem with that design is there is a big group of players that can play a lot on certain days/weeks but not enough on a regular basis or every day.

I really dislike this design… sure some will say: “but people will whine that there is no content”. Well, if they obsessively grind content than that is their own fault, no development team can keep up with that and I don’t think they have to punish all the other players for it.

I find a lot of times the devs think a bit too much about how to slow down the extreme players or top guilds… while they should maybe think a bit more about the lesser obsessed/dedicated players… and no that doesn’t mean just casuals: there are still quite a few different play-styles/players under the category of most dedicated players.

Tbh here’s how I would have done Eye mechanic, by involving some of the AI from islands expos.

Tier 1: a duo of these AI mobs spawns somewhere in the zone, they track your location and will attempt to kill you, making use of the island expo AI. If killed, they respawn at a random location in the zone a minute later and will pursue you again.

Tier 2: another duo spawns, so 2 are active.

Tier 3: each duo gets health buffs and now has an additional member, whom tries to heal them in combat and focuses on disabling you.

Tier 4: another one of these trios spawns, so three are active at once.

Tier 5: in addition to the trios, several packs of stealthed shadehounds now patrol the zone. They’re pretty weak comparatively, but if they attack you they cause a debuff on you which so long as it lingers, causes all stealth hound packs on the map to automatically begin to move towards you, and additionally this debuff being active increases the movement speed of the hunting packs that pursue you by 150% so long as it is active, regardless of where they are in the zone. This significantly increases the chance that encountering a hound brings all of the hunting parties down on you at once.

It’s feel more dangerous, but you could mitigate it with skill, partying or clever avoidance of these parties.

PS the hunting packs would still move to you even if stealthed and they possess true sight.

In VR!

yes. an annoying part of trying to offer improvement to the game cause some people praise bad ideas, or belittle good ones.

when you go into the Maw for the first time after a reset, you will have level 5 eye before you have completed all the weeklys and the dailes. so, any stigia farming or anything else you want to do there is hampered by this and you have to come back another day.

its a nice idea, but in its implementation it doesn’t work

tbh, better than anything we have currently.
lvl 1 (the eye mobs are hostile) can be negated i believe with a stigia bought item.
lvl 2 chains dont really do anything to you unless you’re in a pickle. i afked as a stealthed rogue with the healing while in stealth ability and i was always 100% health before next chain without having to do anything.
lvl 3 mobs chase you. ok. decent idea.
lvl 4 mob carrys you in the sky. annoying more than anything. i believe he stops going up after a certain height, and the drop is not lethal unless you’ve lost enough health.
lvl 5 lose health periodically. again, just annoying more than anything.

I just KNEW this thread would have a Night Elf male author!:+1:

Normal

Horde player that already heard that sound and gone into the Maw know how dangerous the Maw is :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

There is nothing scary about open world. The only real danger you will face in the Maw is going with wmode on with a non stealth class. You want real danger go do that

Bet you LOVED Mechagon…

I don’t envy the devs who had to come up with something legit scary for the Maw. It’s WoW, we usually walk up to scary nigh-immortal beings and tear them into pieces, only to return a week later. What in the world could scare us anymore?

Whoever threw PEGI-13 into this pot has the meat of the issue with anything in WoW; this game will never have anything in it that late-20th/21st Century kids/young adults will EVER find scary… anyone who’s kidding themselves that ANYTHING in WoW has been truly scary is 100% deluded.

I’m just gonna say it. The only threat in the Maw are other players abusing the game’s bad coding.
Literally the only threat since day 1 to me have been the endless dps and tank specs running mobs through me when I’m fighting just one mob on my own. The game’s awful code makes it so that these mobs aggro to me in stead of evading and running back, even if none of their aoe hits me and I don’t hit them. Yes, even if I don’t heal the running coward and even if they’re the opposite faction.
And then I get whispered abuse and death threats for not healing them and letting them die when they pull too much, INCLUDING if they kill me first.

Maw’s threat is essentially:
Overconfident dps or tank pulls 30 mobs. Sees random freshly dinged healer spec. Runs mobs from 40yd away directly through the healer to bug them into attacking the healer. Dps/tank dies to the damage anyway because they have max Eye of the Jailer and eat every aoe. Dps/tank screams bloody murder at the poor healer who dies only 5 seconds after the abusive jerk dps/tank.

Fix this first. When the Maw is even possible to explore and enjoy AT ALL rather than a “toxicity battleground”, we can talk about whether or not it needs mounts.
Meanwhile, I want my mount so I can walk 30 steps out of Ve’nari’s refuge without one of you expecting me to babysit you while you murder me. :innocent: I deserve to enjoy the content I pay for, and I can finally do it once mounts get added. You can take mounts away if you give me back the literal thousands of Stygia I’ve lost to other people’s insanity!

To the OP, do you think its fun to farm a great deal of stygia and then lose it because you die in a location where you cannot get to your character because you died near the edge of some rock or cliff? I think not.

Its not that the Maw is challenging it is not, it is simply annoying. One cannot do the dailies or try to farm rep for Venari or even try to get that mount without the eye of the jailer moving so quickly that you are either being hunted or dive bombed every 2 seconds. This is not fun game play because you are simply prevented from doing anything there for the reasons mentioned.

Plus the no mounting is just ridiculous. It is as if the developers wanted us to go there, but only for what 40 minutes at a time if that? Yet they claim they want us to play the game. All of these mechanics just made The Maw virtually unplayable.

Nope, the cops keep harassing you no matter how much you repaint that darn cat

And more importantly, it was meant to limit it on a daily timer.

I don’t know what it is with Blizzard’s absolute obsession with “Please log in for exactly 1 hour a day + your raid days + anything that doesn’t reward anything but has a competitive element” every day and then go away.

It’s like it beckons you to log in but then also tells you to go away just as you’re starting to get into it. It’s the strangest design I’ve ever seen and I really hope they kill it with fire, but given the fact that it’s gone through various stages of bad to worse back to bad again for 12 years I’ve sort of lost hope. Nevertheless, if they want to get started, removing Eye of the Jailer is only the very beginning - there’s A LOT more to do than that.

Was it though? I mean, it definitely threatened my patience. The Maw alongside of Choreghast are the most boring and annoying content I can remember. Annoying doesnt mean scary and the experience differs a lot depending on your class.
The worst is that the game has no content and all you can do is making alts in this super alt unfriendly expansion and every single one of them needs to go through this trash part with no catch up.

The only scary thing about the eye of the jailer is when you’re at 5/5, see the stacks increasing, and you still have several souls to save for your weekly that you really want to finish before the day is over as you cba returning tomorrow.
