Sometimes its not all about what people seem to desire and more about what’s healthy for the game in the long run.
If they would have removed flying at that time, wow would have been in a healthier state right now. DH not added at all, would have been way healthier for the game as well. Im a DH main but I admit the fact that DH stole good stuff that could fit the warlock and rogue gameplay. Hero classes actually offers nothing added to the gameplay. They just steal stuff from other classes.
DK steals from warrior/warlock, DH steals from warlock/rogue, evokers steals from mage/shaman.
Why would people enrage? We don’t need floating/hovering. Just land your mount on the ground if you need to AFK. I’ve been playing a lot since Dragonflight launch and have absolutely no problem with the lack of flying mount hovering.
Dragonriding is 20 times better than old system and it is better for everyone to use new dragons instead of legacy mounts.
Dismounting another player on air by using your dragon is also great game mechanic, it creates a sense of danger on air, not like in the past “hehhe I could mount up, now I’m untouchable”. Dragonriding is a great improvement compared to old system. Much faster, much more engaging. There is no alt-tab option during flights I used to press num-lock (autorun) then tab out of the game, now I still do that even in the middle of Dragonriding quests but for 1-2 seconds
Flying through the air, finding out your speed decreases exact when you are above a moot, frantically finding a place to land, spending the next 20 Minutes desperate to get out again because vigor is so often out.
People quit games all the time with reasons totally unrelated to the game.
Maybe the problem wasn’t removing flying but the bad design of the game at the time. People were already used to fast-pace solo-player wow by MoP, and then they keep the fast-paced system to WoD with no flying… even I understand people quit. And the problem wasn’t the ban on flying but bad game design as a whole.
Didn’t sound sarcastic to me at all, I do think that’s positive.
Control your vigor and speed, plan your route and manage your resources (time, vigor, pacing…) is what makes me enjoy it.
Since the point of this thread was to expose problems and look for solutions, I think that for people who love farming we could boost the skill to regain vigor when picking a node in different ways.
Everybody happy and healthier game.
Edit. avoid double post.
That’s actually a great idea. A sort of walk/run toggle option that lets you advance leisurely without spending vigor so quickly.
Last time I canceled my sub was the day I read they were removing flying. I can only assume that I wasn’t the only one given how quickly this decision was reversed.
Sure the game could have stayed as it was in TBC with 2% of players doing the Sunwell Raid but I’m not sure the game would have survived much longer.
It’s certainly surviving with DF changes (we are not discussing flying or not, but how to fly).
Here you are making a reference to the BC as something we had to move on from and might even make WoW die (after the success of Classic), and in actuality, at the same time, you are sending a #nochanges message. Isn’t it curious?
Man, flying was precisely introduced in the BC, it’s you who are stuck there. Why not contribute to the topic and share some ideas to enhance the game?
I think you’re mis-reading my comments. I’m not a no changes stay in BC type. I like most of the QoL changes to the game. I’m not playing Classic as I played Vanilla and don’t miss it that much.
And I have suggested how I would like the game to be, have both systems. Dragonriding is not good for me so I want regular flying. I don’t like the suggest to merge the two systems so I have to use the new one all the time.
how about… if not everything is about what you want and more, you know, about overall health of the game?
Old flying is bad designed. Its botfriendly, it have no downtime, you can afk/autorun it, it takes nothing for you to do to stay in the air, its slow and most important it destroy world immersion/player interaction. So how about for a chance you think for the overall picture and not just yourself?
While I agree with you in mostly everything (except the motion sickness stuff and calling people liars), they are playing the game and they surely want to keep the things from the game they like… UNchanged (despite them saying they do like changes lol).
We can’t deny a big chunk of the playerbase likes autorun, floating around and afk-camping stuff, so taking them into account isn’t that bad. I’m not saying it’s fair but… life isn’t.
I’d only like them to think a bit about community rather than their self interests and at least make some effort to realize things could be better than they are (i.e. also enhance the health of the game and its community).
Them playing their afk-botlike game would be OK if it didn’t affect the rest of us, but it does…
It’s been in the game for nearly all its history and the game has done ok with it.
As I said they tried removing it before and it didn’t go well. It was not good for the game then, it’s not now.
If they were to add a new expansion with terrain that isn’t horrible to navigate (somehting they’ve not managed since MOP) then maybe they could remove flying but until then they’re going to need to keep flying in game.
My guess is that they will allow normal flying in DF and dragonriding everywhere (tho I don’t see how it will make it work, given the size of the zones) towards the end of the expansion.
Dragon riding is the best flying mechanic I’ve seen so far in mmos (not that I’ve seen a lot) and it has so much potential. I remember when Blizzard was known for their innovative development. Miss those days.
Well, everything AFK on a normal mount is what you can do on the dragon mount too. Not everyone likes to full time zap around. We play the game in the morning with our coffee and enjoy the lower traveling. Literally the only advantage of dragon riding is that it is fast. I am totally fine to be old now and enjoy the slower pace of the game and use normal flying (and enjoy the view!). The immersion of the surroundings is completely gone with zapping around.
We are also fine with having dragon riding ALSO in the game. So there is something for everyone
The most important point is said elsewere: let people enjoy tranquil, slow-paced flight if they want while combatting botting. Things as they are don’t do that.
There are currently with dragonriding also bots.
But sure. When dragonriding would be slow like normal flying. I would vote for that. Still unfortunate we can not use the mounts we have farmed for years for though.
