Dragonflight is better, but why are numbers so low?

I think Dragonflight is boring , yes the patches are thick and fast but it’s all the same thing.

We getting more invasion type content with dreamsurges.

I just feel the game hasn’t changed up since Legion , sure there’s no ap grind anymore. But it feels so deja vu.

Besides there’s other games and mmos out there that are really good. I used to want to spend my whole free time playing wow , but I like ff14 and ESO. So I resub to wow check out a new patch for a month or two , get curve. Move on.

The problem with mounts , tmog , pets at one point they were special and meant something. Now there’s so many it’s completely diluted. There was a forum post a while back and despite there being close to 700 mounts , most people use the same 10 and stick with them.

Same with achievement , remember when 9000 was a feat of strength ? You can get that in a weekend on a fresh account.

Nothing feels deep or important anymore. Maybe it never did back in the day either we just felt it did.

Even gearing up , there’s no ceiling it just gets replaced in the next patch then the next inevitable expansion.

Some of the best ideas in this game failed , not because they were bad just not enough effort/time/money were put into those systems.

Take garrisons , they could have been mind blowingly amazing , but they ran out of time and we got what we got. Imagine each patch in wod , we could lvl our garrison to lvl 4 , 5, 6 tiers . So much cooler.

PVP… who pvp’s anymore ? that was like 90% of my pastime waiting to raid. Now it’s just push keys all day and night for 1 upgrade a week if you’re lucky. … why bother when you can spend time playing FF16 ? Starfield or something that’s more rewarding and satisfying to play.

I don’t think wow will ever be dead or die. It’s just how blizz designed patches or seasons to be mini expansion within expansions. So you’re going to have alot of players like me and my friends , come in get curve get ksm. Okay done , see ya. We ain’t hanging around for 6-8 months , why bother.

Classic era and classic woltk only thing that keeps me subbed atm. But who knows how long that will last.

The trade post is cool but again I don’t see anyone actually mogging into those items from there. Or riding those mounts. They just go into another collections tab and it get’s forgotten. The grey in the tab is no longer grey , another tick on my ATT addon. That’s all they become essentially.

So how can you make a player base who doesn’t care or feel for anything in the game to want to play it ?
One obvious solution , make a wow 2 , fresh clean slate for everyone but that’s not going to happen. People don’t want a classic version 2 wow with nice graphics.

In conclusion the content is essentially stale , it gets a new lick of paint every 2 years. But behind that paint it’s the same thing basically. Interests change and people move on.

I can even make a prediction about the next expansion … It’s going to have new leveling zones , a raised level cap. 8 new dungeons , 3 tiers of raiding, 1 mega dungeon. 2 new zones throughout the expansion. 60+ mounts nobody cares about. One new arena. More world quests. New resource materials + new crafts . I don’t have to mention the theme , that’s irrelevant , all I know is , it’s the same game under the hood as the last expansion. New coat of paint. Sounds exciting right ?

Softer than Shadowlands for sure, but I don’t think for a second that’s the issue with the narrative. Shadowlands was quite dark and fraught with peril, but it didn’t exactly make for a compelling story regardless.

If anything I think it comes down to much of the story these days revolving around lore characters. Not the world itself, not our place in it, but lore characters sometimes acting like the main cast in a soap opera. Not only does that make for a massive disservice to Azeroth itself, it also relegates us to the role of audience rather than participants.

Could be many things, my 2 cents are that due to SL and BFA (SL being the last nail), people have been driven away from WoW, be it for good or for a while. And, in that time, most have found out that there are, simply put, better and more fun games out there. So now they come back, but don’t take WoW as seriously as before, or just don’t come back at all.

But this is just my thought with no actual real basis whatsoever, it’s just my feeling about it.

Because its not better.

The first reason is the expansion cinematic which made me fall asleep.

Second is change of tone, sanitized “let’s not offend anyone” stories and dialogues, removes emotional connection between players and the game.

Extreme censorship, we don’t even see blood. Average age of players is probably something like 25 more or less. The game whether it is story or visuals has kept getting more childish for an aging audience.

I don’t know how much politics have an impact on players but we know how they at least pretend to be a woke company under domination of ESG score. It doesn’t appeal to many people. I personally get annoyed when random employees of blizzard try to teach me new woke vocabulary. I have been here for 15 years to play a game, not to contend your brainwashing attempts.

There are too many reasons behind failure of the current expansion. It is not as simple as “there is no content or there is too many content”.

Every single clown steps they’ve taken during recent years piled up and as a result we’ve lost our connection to the company and their games. They reap what they sow now.

How is it better than, for example, Shadowlands?
Every season, you have to play Pandaria and Draenor dungeons… They can’t invent anything new.

I think it’s always harder to join any expansion when it’s part way through. Where we have done each section of story bit by bit, a player that starts now has all of it to deal with in one go.

Legion was also heavily criticised for this, people felt very lost if they started later.

I really dislike that some of the story was also put behind a renown barrier. Not a lot but there are some who have never seen those stories.

The talent system and general gameplay of the classes alone make it better than shadowlands.

Way more alt friendly too.

Fast gearing, no ap to grind no borrowed power, nothing to do,

In the video, it shows the numbers of characters who participated in M+ during DF Season 1 vs DF Season 2. These numbers are taken from Raidet.io

I trust Raider.io to have captured the correct numbers for M+ runs, especially since Blizzard changed the API specifically so that they could be sure of capturing them all.

It shows

DF Season 1: 6.7 Million
DF Season 2: 2.5 Million

That’s a big drop (63%).

It goes on to show that the drops between seasons for the last two expansions were much smaller.

I’m honestly surprised by this, since, apart from the invasion of out recent Augment overlords, I haven’t heard more than the usual complaints about M+.

If I saw a 63% - or even 80% - drop in open-worlders, I would not be a bit surprised. But I’m not seeing the specific problem with M+.

The only thing that keeps me playing WoW is the combat style… I have not really enjoyed the game since Legion, DF is an improvement on SL though for sure but it does not have that edge.

For me it doesn’t feel “exciting” at the moment lore wise but if the next expansion is something lore deep then i think things will pick up for the game. All my friends stopped playing in S1 and i am in a dead guild again but i do not mind, i enjoy DF but i am not surprised at all that others do not especially after SL.

I think if we get a revamp and an emerald dream expansion it will do very well.

It doesnt need a new expansion to do well, it needs a change of design phiolosphy. Just because they use new paint doesnt mean its a new thing. The apparent issues with the game are still there. I grant u theme, would help me a long the way with some decent lore but at this point it wouldnt be enough, they have alienated the entire community for years, now they release a subpar expansion thats only seen as good comparitevly to SL. i mean i cant make this up. Stockholm syndrome everywhere.

I never liked the idea of WoW 2 but i feel like its their only option, or literally classic + and let retail die, its not worth it anymore, they threw out all lore, the themes are generic and boring, the systems are just a new coat of paint, they literally removed all AP grind, i guess good in certain aspects but they didnt put any time into replacing it with something so they just removed content even if it was bad.

They dont do give PVE/PVP its own set appearance, they just recolor everything, because small indie company. We havent gotten anything cool this expansion, most of the cool stuff is on the trading post which is turning into the cash shop, and all of the things on there are rehashed or recolored items. Lmao

Well, i can just confirm most of the things why u guys and girls think WoW sucks.

Im a collector / m+20 / 2k pvp / HC raider. ( y its not gladiator, not mythic raid :D)

Ill stop playing wow more and more, community sucks at most - because skilllevel of players are too diverse and content gets far to spicy, i cant even play with friends of mine or my guildies, which i know for years (9 or smth).

Its ever like: hey i wonna go harder than +20 or 2k pvp score, because content is ez and no fun for me (missing challenge). But others are like: oh i miss gear, i only deal 35% of ur dmg which isnt enough or i dont have time to learn and know so much stuff in excellence (or close) to go above +20, or its im too low and ppl wonna play with more xp players +25 / 2. Gladiator alt …

So, its playing with toxic strangers hoping theyre not boosted in my difficulty mode or playing with friends and boosting them or getting boosted. Thats it.

Why go harder or even go in general if its that depressing?

Dunno guys… 37k achievement points and 9 years, game never felt that boring - and as far as i hear it from others: there are many feeling the same way.

Get rid of M+, delete lfr and mythic raid, go for 2 raid difficulties, and just let ppl play and have fun with others - rather than playing alone or with hard trying boosted ppl flaming everything or leaving dungeon after 60 sec

This would pretty much kill the game, lol. Raid or die isn’t something worthwhile to keep subbing for.

Anyone who really isn’t playing the game just because of this had an extremely unhealthy relationship with the game and is taking it too personal for no reason.

Imo, the game is just overly complex and convoluted owing to the talent trees and therefore rotations being bloated, it’s exhausting to play at the high end because there are too many mechanics that are too punishing, and the expansion theme and vibe is VERY weak.

All this results in not many players playing, and none of it’s gonna change until the next expansion that hopefully tones down the complexity and ramps up the cool factor. A Legion 2.0 if you will, cool theme, manageable difficulty and gameplay innovation.

This might blow Ur mind but both bfa and shadowlands was way, WAY better than dragonflight

The lore and atmosphere is pathetic, no one cares about these lame dragons and their stupid land

Talent trees are just more time waste copy paste wowhead link instead of clicking a few buttons

Raids are all literally one big circle fighting cartoon rocks

Dragonflying is awful, imagine running out of stamina and having to alt tab for 5mins just to get something on top of a slope

So boring, annoying and uninteresting. Pls blizzard make something good next expansion, void Vs light or something, something cosmic or old gods again, something good

I think the main problem that people are not playing right now is that they are done with a season
if you didn’t notice wow is now a seasonal game when it comes to endgame content
so the players that seek that content play only few months till they done all they wanted and then wait till next big PATCH and raid tier.

Cause 10.1.5 with overperformed meta, where others spec can’t play m+ content. Also crests. This season feels dead for a lot of people. Not enough new content and new location, causals just finished what they have. A lot of people just waiting new season.
