Another maintenance with no improvement. Milking subs with an amazing event, fresh content and uncapped season yet directx 12 has straight up been broken since patch day without so much as a comment or a request for more information. Out of 10 different technical issues plaguing the game there’s everyday talk about each one and every one of them.
There’s about a 50% a chance that one of the bugged characters at the selection screen will load into the world with same broken textures. If one of the playable characters happens to be a Draenei character the lightforged npcs around the SW embassy area will all be load as black or scratched out. This can be fixed with a reload command but something else on your screen will break instead.
The goblins have made a lag fiesta out of Undermine and it could remain like so for the whole month. The zone is literally unplayable on directx 11 because the game runs on poorly.
I have the same issues since day one of the patch. Now seing everyone exhausting all options and I sit with a re-install atm knowing it wont work after reading the entire thread. xD It’s frustrating not hearing from Blizzard. Last night this happened on a boss fight on mythic…
9800X3D dropping down into the low 30s and horrible stuttering. Hell, the game stutters frequently even in vanilla dungeons where the GPU usage is like 30%. The game engine is so bad, the smallest calculations can trigger a stutter.
I was thinking of the increased raid droprates, not goblins lmao
People who first thought of it wanted it to be inclusive so they don’t lose players over a random patch and it also happens to still run well on older hardware two decades later, unlike any unoptimized modern game that can’t even maintain stable 60 fps without a brand new graphics card.
If someone’s being sloppy pushing updates through poor quality assurance it’s the new team. All of this has been designed months ago and is now being drip fed and timegated to the players.
Whatever had been adjusted and added in at the last moment is the likely culprit and it shouldn’t take too long to identify the problem because just a day before patch everything was working perfectly.
It started out with textures and eventually the green placeholders for addons got patched (or at least I’m under the impression because I’m not seeing it every 5 minutes). Over the last two weeks whatever had been done had only made things worse with the emergence of memory errors and blue screens of death.
All of these reports first start popping up a couple of days after the patch which means that BSOD problem wasn’t even one of the original problems - for me it started on the 26th.
Glad i found this post, thought my graphics card was blowing up. Was playing after last patch and got black screen . then game came back . Did it last week as well . Since reading this post have played in DX11 and seems more stable. Only problem is FPS is no shocking and get 70-90% cpu useage after doing mediocre things . Any idea if a fix is on the way ?
This is still a thing and another reason why I am convinced this can’t be hardware failure is actually the fact that changing any warband login screen on character selection usually fixes it (while staying in dx12).
If there’s a bugged character in any warband group or outside of them in the default vertical listing, the moment you initiate ANY warband background change, a short reload gets triggered which fixes broken and missing textures (the same way switching between dx12 and dx11). It does not fix everything everytime and it’s always possible some character will get fixed while another one breaks.
I can’t seem to figure this out and it just might have something to do with the number/quantity of characters. I have almost 60 over four servers and usually after the first relog the characters across 3 servers will display fine and one or two from the last server will be messed up. After the second relog, more will break. After third the broken ones will just shuffle around but they will never end up bugged all at once.
For the last week gameplay while logged into any characters has been flawless without any artifacts on objects, terrain, spells or character models. It’s just the login screen in dx12.
Occasionally there will be white blanket textures over mounts in rostrum configuration screen and in the barbershop, which in turns locks out the ACCEPT button at the bottom right. This can get fixed with a simple reload but I don’t encounter this as consistently as my main problem.
Transmog screens on the other hand are despite reports of other players experiencing difficulties working as intended.
I run without issues currently on my 7900 XTX with resizeable bar enabled, i think this is a NVIDIA issue, however 1 user mentioned having issues on their AMD hardware but is being vague about posting their specs, so i am just gonna assume this is an NVIDIA issue for now, these issues have been reported in the past as well especially by NVIDIA users, with the shaders getting corrupted and showing graphical corruption.
Only issue i have since 11.7 is that ray tracing no longer works but works on 11.2 PTR
I do recommend disabling resizeable bar a try to see if the issue indeed go’s away but test for couple of days before mentioning if this indeed helped, and do clear your shader cache in both windows / and NVIDIA control panel or even Radeon software first, however after doing so it may take a couple of days for it to re appear, so disabling resizeable bar might not be a fix unless it permanently disapears and comes back the moment you turn it back on.
I have tried logging into friends’ accounts on my PC and I’m not running into the texture problem. The only thing different is that none of them have close to 60 characters listed in the right side column so there’s much less to load at once after a relog.
Nothing has improved after running wow from an external SSD. First time on the character selection after game restart everything is fine; by second relog models start to go black; after third relog black silhouettes turn into rainbows and the problem starts picking characters at random who will end up affected.
Switching DX mode or warband background screen usually fixes the display, for a while at least, but there’s still a small chance at least one of the many characters won’t get corrected if I wish to remain on DX12.
/console gxrestart in the game world seems to sometimes improperly load up one or two model textures in your immediate sight, but what’s different to the login screen where these black textures remain if no other action is taken, here they go away on their own after a delay and in about three quarters of a minute everything is fine again.
I have the same problems after new prepatch in mist of pandaria but i switched from dx12 to dx11 and problem was fixed for me. But would be great if they gonna fix this because i want to play on dx12.
… what is being described here is similar to what I flagged a few days ago. Never had any issues before, but for some reason, especially when opening bank slots it freezes and have to alt tab a few times for it to work - really weird …
The last time I used it must’ve been BFA… then textures started to glitch. I saw the model outlines of every single bush and tree in Shadowmoon Valley and DMF and a whole load of other visual glitches, some which I remember gave me a headache.
I haven’t had glitches like that since going back to Dx11. This occured on two different PCs if it matters, so can’t be card related.
One month later the problem is still present on character screens. Usually it is a flat black silhouette but after two or three relogs the bugged models shuffle around and you get this.

It’s not strange sometimes to see armor textures or models from adjacent characters on the list to sometimes apply to their neighbor, such as the main parts of the full Defias Leather set starting to show on a plate wearing character.
In game everything is mostly fine until you start manually forcing graphics to restart through settings or a console command, that’s the only time when there’s a possibility of some model or object reloading on screen in a bugged state.
So as people are saying in the other thread, video cards are crashing but in my case the crash isn’t full and there’s just something putting itself in the way of textures properly and completely reloading.
While this has very little impact on gameplay, there’s still something inherently broken behind the scenes which could explain why the game might be shutting down or just running like complete garbage if you are unlucky to be playing on win 10/11 or using a graphics card from one of the only two manufacturers on the market.
Video crashes are ever-present and some of the assets are reloading in a corrupted state after randomly disappearing off the screen.
Logging out to selection screen breaks character textures. If there’s anything left to say is that today’s patch has doubled down on technical problems without addressing any of of the existing from the past five weeks.
