I immediately though of it as a scene from Buffy came to mind… Spike and Angel were arguing over their feelings for Buffy and she said “I’m beginning to think you should both fight this out… Oooo there could be mud or oil of somekind involved…”
A woman who rents out her flat is a Landlord. So why not firelord?
They should be able to do that! But haven’t.
The Necrolord title my female Shaman got was “Baroness” whilst males get “Baron” as a title… so they clearly thought about it at some point!
That’s used more for Ladies who run public houses (Pubs). Landlady’s were also a term for Hostel/B&B owners… but in the property rental market, Landlord is the most commonly used term… perhaps that’s just a change that happened over time.
As a British person myself, I can assure you that this is not true… in Period Drama’s on TV set back in the early 1900’s… yes… not for a VERY long time has this been the case. British wives reading this thread will be laughing their heads off right now.
Might as well be a recent thing with the attempts for more gender inclusivity, but I’ve most definitely seen women who rent out buildings being referred to as Landladies.
