Around x-mas a player was angry about how convenient the game has become.

How flying ruined the game, and we don’t work enough in the… And the classic “In Vanilla…” :wink:

I don’t think it’s a bad idea, but if it was implemented in the game, I think the flightmasters should be removed… They work the same way.

They could stay for old times sake.
Or just have a bit different functionality.
Like they themselves become the waypoint you choose your whistle to fly to.

And yes, people will complain forever about convenience.
Because the game is not fun unless you waste 10 minutes taking flight points one by one and not doing anything else.

There are more portal than players these days, and they’re putting in even more with 8.1.5. Don’t know for horde, but for ally they’re adding a specific portal room in the keep. Also engineering has some toys that you can use to travel, i have the wormhole for northrend for example.

Travel was a huge part of the game once, i think they cut off enough of it already.

For me traveling is part of the experience of this game. If you could just teleport everywhere it wouldn’t be the same game. Besides the time you spend going between flight points can be used to stretch the legs, alt tab or talk to friends in game or discord. Or just enjoying the scenery, I have lot of screenshots like that, in fact, I think most of my screenshots are taken between flight points.

But you wouldn’t lose anything if waypoints were added.
You would have the option to enjoy your flightpoint break! While others would have the option to poof somewhere with small cast time and enjoy playing the game.

Only person losing in this is the person who does not enjoy it unless everyone else has to do it (like most anti flying people seems to be)

Actually, if flight masters were to become waypoints, like you suggested, I would lose the option. Same thing happened with the zepplin between orgrimmar and undercity, it was completely replaced by the portals. It’s not an option. Blizzard would have either one or the other travel system. And between flight masters and waypoints, I would rather have the flight masters.

Oh you might’ve misunderstood me.
I know that blizzard is not one too keen on choice, but I meant it as the two systems coexisting.
Like swtor which has both flight points and way point TP (with… 10/15 minutes CD… I think).
Those two systems can coexist.
Just papa blizz has to allow.

There just needs to be an Heirloom item to discover ALL FPs. The ones now are not sufficient imo. Definitely when the 110 boosted char does get all FPs unlocked

The ones currently discover all old fps, plus theres a vendor boa item for bfa to discover all flight paths.

I dont think you could discover much more.

  • Final Fantasy does have limited flying and waypoints/OH (Omni-Hearthstone or similar). That is FF’s design philosophy; there are things to do in some areas, no matter the level. WoW on the otherhand is focused on its massive world. A lot of what makes up WoW becomes obsolete after you out-level it. Forcing you to travel, even with ease of flight, is how the game keeps the world somewhat relevant!

  • Never played ESO cos Elder. Scrolls. Is. A. Single. Player. Game. Series. Hnnnnngh! ^^

  • Whistle would be nice but to be honest that is just making the game lazy. You don’t even want to put in the effort to play the game then. There’d be no real point in having the map between WQs at all, really. Plus, it would also heavily reduce risk of War Mode and difficult zones. A selective Whistle would have to be heavily restricted.

well if I recall they are revamping the portal room in stormwind to have even more portals, meening you only need to have your hs in boralus, take portal to SW and you have more portals to choose from, that should be enough.

Wonder if they’ll do all the major portals? TBC Shattrath, WotlK Dalaran (still in MoP Shrines), WoD Ashran (without need for Garrison setup) and so on.

not realy would still need mages at times, specialy to get to stormwind, becuse it aint always sure you got your hs off cd.

How is allowing selective whistle or waypoints lazy and I am not even playing the game?
You seem to have misunderstood it.
I want the selective whistle/waypoints so that I can actually play the game instead of waiting for the flight point to take me to the spot I want to be in so that I can play the game.
Flying somewhere is not playing.
(And don’t even start with the “beautiful view while taking a flight path”, I usually alt tab during them).

And it could easily be restricted.
Simple as: 5 minutes CD if used within a zone, 10 minutes if used outside of zone but within continent and 15 if used outside of continent you are in.
Bam.
Easy.
Works fine while not taking anything from anyone.
And if that seems to complicated, just make the CD 5 min within zone and 10/15 outside.
No idea how this can be seen like a problem.
If ya like scenery that much, you do not have to use it.
And for warmode, another simple solution! Add a cast time as well.
Longer cast time I mean, like HS cast time.
