The slog to farm charms is unbearable, lol. Even switched to barrage

Basic premise is that an ex-convict is hired as a bodyguard for Odin, the old gods never really went away instead when we conquer and colonise other countries, humans take them with them…however due to how we adapt narrative their roles in our world…change.
The reason Odin needs a bodyguard, the new gods are rising, Technology, Media, Globalism, and they want to clear the old gods off the map. Excellent book and excellent series if you like mythology in any way

I think God is a sadist, and probably even he doesn’t know about it.
Don’t ask where the reference came from… I dare not share it here. But it’s proven to be true in my eyes. 
Regardless, the series might have more to it than we think. In fact, some books and movies are perfect for concealing important messages you otherwise wouldn’t dare to share.
