1. Download "EasyRes" (google for easyresapp) and install it on your Mac.
2. Start the app and it will display a little icon in the menu bar (top right).
3. Click on it, hover with your pointer over the screen and see which option is selected. (Probably something within the "Retina 2x" section.)
4. If your resolution is, for example, 1440x900 (Retina 2x) change it to 1440x900 (Standard 1x) or the resolution you want to play with.
5. Your screen will refresh itself for a second and it's done.
6. Start Wow and go into the settings.
7. Select "Fullscreen" and apply.
8. The resolution field should be greyed out.
9. Set "Resolution scale to 100%".
10. Log in and enjoy.

I tried both possibilities, but the App (App Store) is perfect.
I've only changed Retina (2x) 2560x1440 to Standart (1x) 2560x1440 and it works well... my FPS have been increase from10-30 to 60-90.

Apparently you can also set the resolution of your retina display. Go to 'preferences', then 'display', option-click 'scaled' and check "show low resolution modes".
That switches your entire display resolution to a lower one.
I tried it but didn't like the text quality so will be staying at retina with 50% downscale of the 3D.

Brother you are a genius, after 2 days of researching on how to improve the fps on wow I found this post which solved the issue in a matter of seconds!

Ive tried your second method on the app store but it hasnt seemed to increase my fps maybe by an absolute fraction. It has allowed me to go from Low res mode to normal.

I love you man, I've been struggling to keep my fps up in the 5k iMac at 2.5k 50% scale in average settings now I'm getting 140 fps at ultra settings <3
