Guide for Writing Good Character Profiles

rp is unnecessary.

Or do what I have been doing, and make everything up on the fly.
it works wonders if your character is also a huge massive liar, because that way you have a foolproof escape out of contradicting yourself.

Could easily be summarised to:

Things that are obvious and apparent.

I generally avoid putting anything in there that’s not absolutely apparent. Stick to general values of physical appearance, weapons, markings, magical auras and the like.

Yes, but Common Sense is so rare these days it’s basically a super power.

The thing with common sense is, and I’ve explained this to people often, is that if the term needs to be mentioned then it’s not really common sense.

I agree with most of your guide, first off. Great stuff.

I think the former titles is a bit open to use. Like if you utilise what your character was doing prior to now, it may be important to their current direction and hooks, and serve as a nod to fellow rpers. I agree that a list of former stuff like a cv is excessive.

I mean priori being Re commissioned into the airborne priests little over a year ago, Kootania was still working the goblin music scene. I put info about it because for her that’s still really important and shes still struggling with the idea that’s not her job anymore.

Writing your character description as a haiku is galactic brain

To adapt my own from earlier:

Brooding steely eyes,
Rugged good looks; broad figure,
Knight of Theramore

It’s beautiful.

This made me laugh. It’s so true. :joy: :+1:

Common sense is not so common, sadly.

I usually write down some additional info in my first glances, something you wouldn’t know by just looking. I personally like that, as it provides a hook for you to perhaps continue a conversation on and a way to possibly get to know someone’s character better.

To take an example from this character, instead of simply writing that he wears a pair of large metal wrist-guards, I write that they’re crude looking, and forged from orcish blades collected in Lordaeron. Giving those that want, a hook to use in a conversation. It tells them there’s a story behind them, and then have the possibility to inquire for it if they want.

I think using haikus (or just writing poetry or stuff like that) is usually fine, if it’s done in addition to the already existing description.

Not going to name any names, but I’ve seen a player who wrote their RP profile only in haikus, or just some weird poetry-type of deal.

Just because you can rhyme two words doesn’t mean you can write poetry. It just makes it very hard to understand, because typically you’ll open up a thesaurus and synonym dictionaries to find ways to describe your character, and you end up with some tangled mess that is just so overly unnecessary.

But like an additional piece, especially short & sweet like haikus, is a cool addition. Just don’t overdo these. <3

Be nice. He can’t help what he is.

I’m very pleased to see you’ve decided to spend your energy in a productive manner, contained to the AD forums writing RP guides, instead of trolling the Classic forums (i.e. purposefully making inflammatory comments to rile up the community and the usual posters just for kicks), defending the absurd argument of a cash shop in a hypocritical and condescending manner (https: //imgur .com/a/XgGyM2H <-remove the spaces)

Glad you found your calling! I personally think this one’s the way forward, pretty good guide, didn’t call everyone a neckbeard this time

I’m very pleased you’ve decided to spend your energy in a productive manner, contained to the AD forums making condescending, tos breaking comments instead of having a relevant opinion on the Classic forums (i.e. expressing a view and having an alternative opinion to the masses on yet another ‘moan @ Blizzard’ thread), proposing that someone’s opinion is absurd just because you don’t like it in a very backwards, inept and immature manner. (-insert tos breaking link here because I don’t have trust level 3-)

Glad you found your calling! I personally think it needs work, but hey. Each to their own!
