How about: Option to "Backup" own Data? Armory 2.0 or something

Sure - not ONLY client side. That would be weird. O.o
Sorry i didnt mention it because i thought its obvious.
So is data security, and privacy → but thats the HOW not the WHAT.

you know this: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-gb/character/eu/kelthuzad/someone
(yes i just picked someone)
Here you can see mounts and stuff.

Why not add banks and logs of changes like here too → but only for the person who owns the account(!) obviously … privacy etc.
and an option to save this?
Like the recovery option for lost mails or deleted items.

And what about … this magic blockchain?
Couldnt this be used to verify the data?

maybe its my bad english … but

Why does everyone assume that I want this system to be local only … and not encrypted?

My suggestion is for a system where players can have a backup or a log of their in-game items and progress, maybe similar to the armory feature.

This way, if something goes wrong (like the recent bank guild wipe), we would have proof or a record of what we lost. I am not suggesting an unencrypted local backup—that would indeed be a bad idea for security reasons.
What I’m asking for is an official backup or log system, which could be securely stored, maybe with an option to download a copy if needed.

HOW this could be achieved :dracthyr_shrug:
blockchain, keys, whatever

edits: trying to explain whats ment

Where do you think this comes from… the live database!

Oh gawd.

Your English is good, it’s just a terrible idea.

Yeah problem is that this system might work as a “read” only mode for you to save your “progress” and see your mounts, but will not really be a “back up”.

Thing is that there is no way to make such a system secure. Keeping that in mind, if blizzard checks any inconsistencies between this system and their own database, they will trust their own database. So in case of ANY data wipe, they will not take this kind of system in face value.

Any system that is not strictly in blizzard’s end, can be bypassed, so cannot work as you imagine it to.
