I have been playing since Orcs vs Humans and in all honestly you cannot deny that the game has lost many people over the years and in the last quarter, the actual Actvision Blizzard financial report shows this. There are many people leaving in droves for numerous reasons, being in denial is not going to help the situation.
It’s easier to be in denial of the decline instead of accepting the fact that current blizzard is in unprecedented times. Eventually a boiling point will be hit and this might just be that.
and yet, other games and companies have lost a lot more. Especially if you look into the age of games/longevity. In fact, FFXIV has over 22m registered users since they had last announced and… yeup definitely nowhere even near half that actively playing.
I think the issue here is that most gaming companies saw an increase of users last year and most of this year due to COVID, Activision Blizzard did not.
But companies only care about revenue and as long as they can get whatever users they still have left to spend money, thats all that matters. We will probably see a downtick in revenue in the next quarter due to the lawsuit and content droughts in several of Activision Blizzard games again, but this does not mean they cannot recover in a few years.
As for FFXIV they are definitely growing, there was a recent developers letter about having to upgrade their server infrastructure and add additional cloud data centers to keep up with demand. There is no use in pretending that FFXIV has not benefitted from WOW players going there and popular WOW streamers playing the game.
I have seen on twitch that even some of the most mediocre streamers on WOW are seeing record views as they are now streaming FFXIV. Plus FFXIV has a new expansion coming out in November, while WOW has not even mentioned patch 9.1.5 or 9.2.
How about you learn where the transmog vendors are?
Look at this dude telling people what to do when he can’t even dress properly lmao
I think i learned something today,
People are either pessimistic or in denial.
the game either dies or new player come.
(I believe no new EU player will install if WoW isn’t rank1 mmorpg)
I guess I’m Team pessimist but I think you should call it Team realistic
A Denialer would say “They come back next patch/expansion/week/life”

I think the issue here is that most gaming companies saw an increase of users last year and most of this year due to COVID, Activision Blizzard did not.
“Net sales declined year on year at the MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) Game sub-segment due to the release of the “FINAL FANTASY XIV” and “DRAGON QUEST X” expansion packs in the previous fiscal year, but the recurring revenue was solid.” Wrong again, as you people tend to be~
First of all, Activision-Blizzard did well during 2020 as well going into 2021.
" * World of Warcraft saw strong engagement across both the Classic and modern game modes throughout 2020, and full year franchise net bookingsB grew 40% year-over-year, reaching the highest level in nearly a decade.
- World of Warcraft MAUsD grew year-over-year for the sixth consecutive quarter, contributing to overall Blizzard MAUsD of 29 million in the fourth quarter.
- Fourth quarter net bookingsB for World of Warcraft grew sharply year-over-year, driven by strong sales of the Shadowlands expansion, subscriber growth, and high participation in value added services.
- World of Warcraft player and engagement trends since the Shadowlands release are stronger than levels typically seen at this point after an expansion launch.
Notice, MAU is higher. That’s monthly active users, btw.

Yes, sudden demand like when a large following comes over to a server/game for a while. Kind of like streamers crashing my server because they seem to enjoy hosting events and all that. Weird, isn’t it?

There is no use in pretending that FFXIV has not benefitted from WOW players going there and popular WOW streamers playing the game.
Sure! For now, and we’ll see if that lasts anywhere near as long as WoW lasted for said players won’t we? Honeymoon phase and all that, when they get to end game and actually finish current content and are left waiting for ‘new’ content that they quickly burn through.
Standard doomsayer rebuttal “You’re just in denial!” or “They only whine 24/7 in 15 threads they create every single day because they caaaare!”

Notice, MAU is higher. That’s monthly active users, btw.
Hey sweetie, Blizzard lost 20 millions mau during the last 4 years.
I don’t see why I should. I enjoy the game.
Could not agree more if you don’t like the game in his current state just unsub nobody is forcing you to play it.

I don’t see why I should. I enjoy the game.
what a stupid person you are

It seems you didnt see the dropout of the player base
Nor did anyone else. Still too damned busy where I am. Tirna Scythe is a proper pain in the backside to get done if Horde on AD.

big community people dropping wow.
How big are these people? Because some Streamers look like chonky units, and some like weasels on a crash diet. Either way, nobody cares what they think apart from their drones, and they’re the sort that are like an infestation anyway, so we can live without them.

It’s so funny. When I log in and play the game everything is just fine. When I come to the forums or see comments it’s like “OMG WOW IS DEAD BLIZZ IS SOOO DONE GAME IS CRAP”. So funny.
That is probably the actual player experience to be fair. “Internet man say game is dead!” “Waily waily, Game is dead!” Logs on “Oh, it’s not…”

Tehnically we are all dying a slow death atm. Just takes 60…maybe more…maybe less years(asuming the posters here are in 15-30 age range).
Meh, some quicker than others. Still waiting on my hospital appointment to tell me whether I have 1 year left, or 2, or will be lucky and it is 10. I like to think of it as being a Replicant from Blade Runner.

Does that mean we should all go full depressed mode and “why bother doing something in life if we will die eventually?”
Weirdly, once you come to terms with it, it is like the quote goes “Depend upon it Sir, When a man finds out he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully”. Samuel Johnson I believe it was…
WoW’s death has been predicted more times than England football fans have sang “It’s coming home” The national team still keep playing though, don’t they?
Wow, very mature. What’s next? Jokes about my mother? This only shows your inability to conduct a civil conversation.
WoW will riiisssse!

I guess I’m Team pessimist but I think you should call it Team realistic
According to a German idiom, pessimists are just optimists with life experience, so you can’t be that wrong.

You’d be an excellent pick for Blizzard’s shareholder meetings!

Hey sweetie, Blizzard lost 20 millions mau during the last 4 years.
Not you, though. Go away.
tech speaking, we did ? XD
apparently this season wow got the most unsub numbers out.
just wait till the chart get released and you’ll see they’re just hiding it because they know they messed up.

Not you, though. Go away.
Ahem…
Die Eisenfaust am Lanzenschaft,
Die Zügel in der Linken,
So sprengt des Reiches Ritterschaft
Und ihre Schwerter blinken.
Sorry aboot that !
Jesus, I thought you’d take it as a compliment that you’re not fit for Blizzard shareholder backchambers. No need to get all heritage-dark-chapter-offensive!
