How does Blizzard find The Maw fun?

This would give me a reason to do Torghast. I quite like Torghast but it takes too long for little (or no) reward.
Would do some Twisting Coridors if I thought I could solo it but I doubt I can. I did the repeat the first 6 floors x3 for Bolvar and that’s as far as I got.

As for the Maw, I tried to do some dailes there once but kept aggroing Elites that I couldn’t solo so I gave up and never went back apart from the weekly Souls.

I have played original ET the game as a kid and I had more fun playing it than I have had in maw the place is just anti fun that I have ignored it almost completely.

From a lore standpoint I understand that maw is supposed to be a miserable place but from gameplay side of things whoever designed the place must hate players.

I like the Maw because it draws inspiration from Classic with a dangerous world. The Maw is probably the greatest innovation since m+.

The most obvious element of Classic, compared to Retail, is how rewarding it is. If someone asks me to describe Classic as an MMO, I would use this word. You obtain a green “X of the Monkey” sword, and you immediately can feel it while fighting.
In Retail (played to level 37), nothing mattered. I press two buttons several times, every mob (or even 3-4) died.
Or maybe you mean something different?

Me a player who was there in Vanilla:
I have no clue how the maw gets attributed with vanilla qualities. Vanilla was a grind but to call it actively working against you to give a sense of dread… Nah, man. Unless you simplify it to both having the ability to be tedious.

But keep championing classic with weird connections I guess. I’ll probably never understand these connections.

And that “X of the monkey” is the best thing you’re gonna get cause the only way to progress at a certain point was raids, and no one was taking you into those raids, because they wanted experience.

Yes, it’s also a problem today. But today you can get out of it. In the original vanila, you could not. Almost as soon as you hit 60, if you didn’t have a bunch of friends already doing content, you were done. Nothing you could do to improve. Just… walk for half an hour across a continent (no gold for a mount) and realize there’s nothing of worth to do there either.

EDIT: Gods, the walking… I absolutely hated vanila for it. 90% of my game time was spent just walking. And the Maw is just like it.

I feel like The Maw’s utter failure could have discouraged Blizzard from ever experimenting with a zone again, but that shouldn’t be what they take away from it. The 9.1 zone seems to be Maw in name, and appearance, but will function similarly to Broken Shore or any other patch-centric grind area.

The idea of a “dangerous” zone with limited time before becoming uninhabitable isn’t a bad concept, but the execution shouldn’t have been done in regards to mobility. Focusing on making the zone more frustrating as opposed to more difficult is what led to its lambasting; players don’t hate difficulty, they hate tedium.

Maw is suppose to be hell and they made it hard it’s that a concept that cannot be grasped ?
Who said anything about fun ?

I get peeved off and HS out and leave the stygia where it fell. I get so annoyed with the place I cannot be arsed running back to collect it.

This is pretty much the response to players going

“Take away mounts, it’ll make the game sooo much better, people interacted more without mounts”

Well, there it is.

In Vanilla and in Classic, I had no issues with finding a raiding guild. It’s boring after a while, but it’s not hard. Especially for healing classes.
I logged in a minute before. Most players I met in Orgrimmar at 0:44, had great equipment. If anything, much more people, are getting epics in Classic, compared to Vanilla. And even then, it was fine to have blue BiS gear. The mentality was different.
And that’s what I mean by rewarding. An epic item in Vanilla, made people envy. Because it meant something (in game). Classic still have this, while leveling. Any blue item, makes you smile.

Someone expressed his/her despite for any Classic element, in Retail. I am dreaming for all the new zones, with Classic (upgraded) talents, non flying mounts , harder leveling etc. There will still be the shi tty lore, but what can we do…

Read the post. The Maw isn’t hard, it is intentionally tedious. My critique is that, instead of increasing enemy difficulty, The Eye stages instead reduce your mobility. That isn’t difficult; that is annoying, and inherently anti-fun.

sounds to me like alot of whining :sob:

as you said, the zone was designed that way.

Ngl when i first heard about this zone i was excited because there was an element of danger added to it but when i actually got to try it out on live servers i was like eeehhhhh.

I think it’s something that to blizzard looked it was good on paper but then in inactuality it turned out to be something extremely punishing and unrewarding.

As soon as twisting corridors became available i rushed to complete it asap just to make the maw a bit less frustrating to navigate but man is it still a tedious zone even with the mount. I hope they never make a zone like this in the next expansions

Tell me what you enjoy about The Maw’s gameplay loop, instead of trolling. Be constructive.

Who said they do?

They come up with a concept and now are testing how people respond to this concept. That’s really all there is about Maw.
