How long does an elf live?

Were these cat form druids? Because cats always land on their feet and take reduced fall damage.

Eitherway, I can smell the Horde bias from here.

You…might want to re-read that story if you think that is what happened. Mainly because that isn’t what happened.

Lorash killed two of the Druids with poisoned Shuriken, drew them away from the fighting, and took position on a branch that would not bear the weight of more than one person, drawing the Druids to his position, Lorash jumped down from his position, as the Druids leapt to his, being understandably annoyed at this blood elf who had just killed two of theirs.

Unsurprisingly, the tree branch collapsed, depositing the druids on the ground. As they are Druids, and not Time Scrying mutants, they did not have time to use their ‘get out of gravity free’ card, and were understandably briefly dazed, during which time Lorash, Chikkers and Captain were able to kill four of them, before Malfurion turns up and rewrites WoW lore due to an author making a whoopsie.

It was six, not ten, from ambush.

Given that Lorash was supposed to be a pretty supremely skilled operative, this all seems plausible. Likely, even. It’d be as mad as John J Keeshan and what he gets up to…

Dude, do you have time to read this Lore pamphlet about our Lords and Saviours “Farstriders”

Both Night and Blood Elves -DO- have organisations that are pretty much Rambo Elves! Sentinels and Farstriders. The Farstriders do include some pretty darned stealthy individuals who are good with poisons and ambushing in forests.

Why do you have to do this? Why is there a question about Elven Longevity and you have to turn it into -yet another- thread about Night Elf Pity, why not just stay on topic?

I’m assuming you mean Cats, as opposed to game mechanics, as game mechanics wise, Lorash clearly isn’t all that, I can take out Night Elves far easier.

The Cats always landing on their feet thing actually only works to a degree, Its a pretty nifty survival technique, but it has a few fallacies. I mean, for a start, they don’t always land on their feet. Anyone who has had a pet cat will know that sometimes the loveable muppets are capable of surprising even themselves by falling all over the place…Catlike grace only gets you so far against the laws of gravity.

This said. There is a Sweet Spot for both Big Cats (So like Druid forms) and House Cats, within which they generally will always land on their feet, and it is pretty astonishingly good. Monkeys have the same gig going on. Its about stretching the body out to get maximum air resistance then turning mid air. As a Human being this is actually possible to do (Though not recommended from short distances and without specialist equipment!)

Thing is, it is not infallible. A Cat falling from an exponentially shorter distance, so like, House Cat off a table, Big Cat from a tree, will not have time to do the acrobatics in relation to gravity, and will hit the ground with an unceremonious thump, as happened to the Druids in this anecdote. If said Druids had fallen -further- then they would have been able to take advantage of this ability, and would have landed on their feet, unharmed. This seeming super power of housecats and big cats is not infallible however, the very ability they have, can cause problems, Whilst a House Cat falling off a table will likely land on its bum or wherever was closest to the ground when it started to fall, one that falls out of a second story window will generally land on its feet, shake it off and be fine. This actually works at even greater heights, but only up to a point. After about nine stories the Cat is certain to land on its feet, but gravity gets its own back, the cats head will carry on moving even after the tensile springs that are its legs have stopped, smacking its head on the floor. Biggest cause of non fatal injuries of cats who have fallen a long distance is breaking their lower jaws on impact, poor things.

Either way, Yeah, drop a big cat out of a tree, its not going to have time to get beyond the WTF? thought process before it hits the deck.

EHHHHH, I’ll take “Nope” for ten points. Its either real life rules of gravity that apply to both factions, or its fantasy world rules of 'a skilled trio of combatants could easily take down three times the number of the enemy faction.

Bias, as ever, does not come into it…

Pretty much this, they could still have 1k year old life span and that still would be ridiculously long, but they made them live so long it’s imo hard to relate and come up with a good back story. Because what a nelfie did for 10k years back on Kalimdor? strolled over the forest for all this time? wrote poetry? Watching druid husband sleep?

They live for so long and it feels like they don’t live their life at all.

That is the point. Ordinary elf jumped from the tree and he is ok. While cats druids (nature owners) jumped from the tree, dazed (all of them in the same time)…

What do you mean by this?

Quite the opposite actually, cats have higher surface density in comparison to their body weight, this allows them to lessen damage that would be taken from falling from greater height.

Felines tense up during a fall and this acts as a natural shock absorber to reduce damage.
The closer a feline gets to terminal velocity, the less damage they will take.

This applies exclusively to domesticated and jungle cats, because they’ve evolved to be constantly jumping around and have adapted to reducing their injury from falling.

They were holding the long vigil until the Burning Legion returns of course! That’s why they sent their army to fight orcs in W1/W2 and scourge in W3, of course!

The night elves didn’t do that.

Well actually they had 2 pretty big wars during that time. Also during that time they were study Nature realm. They did not became powerful druids, and sentinels that could talk with animals in one day. All those powers came by years of study. Druids also were healing the world from Emerald dream, for thousands of years.

So, pretty much like that:
Woman soldiers were study the art of war, and train all the time, while male druids were healing the world from Emerald dream (untill WoW, were gender splitting was removed). They were immortal guardians of the world, like dragons.

But I agree. They did not had personal life. They did had some celebrations, like that Moon day. Fendral had a son, and his son had family. But those children were rare.
Until they lost immortality.

After they have lost immortality, they had a baby boom (according to a pictures in the books, they have now pretty big children count, just like mortals). Also they started to send different explorer expeditions to other worlds to study them e.t.c

What I wanted to say is, that immortality and long lives are different things. With immortality Night Elves were not free, they had duties. With a long lives, they are just like mortals (“sex, drugs and rock-roll” ©).

One jumped, expecting the impact, the others fell, not expecting the fall. You really really can minimise the harm you come to if you know the fall is coming (Though on ground parachute jump training is still damned painful!)

Basically he says that TBC never happened. That the Night Elves never did anything in Quel’thalas, and would never have dreamed of doing so. The Author later had to Twitter saying they had “Forgotten” that the Night Elves did in fact attack the Blood Elves.

That…is what I said though. Given time a cat will twist and -not- tense up during a fall (Which would be extremely bad for anything to do when falling). A Cat is not immune to falling, if they are close enough to the surface to not be able to do their (admittedly amazing) feat of acrobatics, likewise at higher altitudes it doesn’t -matter- how good they are, they will land on their feet, yes, but smack their lower jaw on the surface.

A Cat does -not- tense before impact, that would be ridiculous and lead to multiple fractures, a cat does -ready- itself and act like a spring, you can actually see them do it, the legs bend then force themselves rigid, they do not land tensed up. The Height they can fall, is (and I don’t even want to know how they researched this) a matter of record. Small distance? They don’t have time to do their thing. Big distance? They have time to do their thing and walk off unphased, Very Big distance? They do their thing and typically suffer from broken lower jaws, as you can only fall so far without injury. This said, there are exceptions to this rule, like the RAF gunnery sergeant who bailed out of his Lancaster at 15,000 feet, and -survived- calmly smoking a cigarette as the Germans apprehended him. These are however, freak occurrences, and not common. The average human will not survive a fall of fifty feet, let alone 15,000.

Cats are pretty awesome, and they are, but they are not immune to falling.

That’s indeed a mistake!

Alleria fighting during the Troll Wars is iffy.

she wasn’t even mentioned in the Chronicles.

Atleast twelve seconds.

i would argue Brigante it don’t matter if they corrected them self on twitter its not in the book then it’s not canon :stuck_out_tongue:

After Night Elves have lost immortality, Night Elves started to get old fast, and many of them died from age. One of them was Shalasyr, Jarod Shadowsong wife.

But, by the fact, Shalasyr was much younger than Malfurion and Tyrande. So, why Tyrande and Malfurion are still alive?

I remember Blizzard told something about Elune that gives some powers to Tyrande, and Malfurion gains powers of nature, that is why they are still alive.
But I’m not sure. Can somebody help me find Blizzard answers about that?

i can see my self alive well after wow is dead for 1000 years

she died from sickness, not age.

What we know the night elves did during the Long Vigil:

Fight the War of the Satyr.
Exile the Highborne of Dath’remar Sunstrider.
Start the Sentinel Army.
Mold the forests of Val’sharah to as closely resemble the Emerald Dream as any forest on Azeroth could.
Plant Great Tree’s in Duskwood, The Hinterlands, and Feralas and World Tree’s in Northrend and Val’Sharah.
The night elves of the Unseen Path send atleast Emmarel Shadewarden to aid Talanas Windrunner and Silvermoon against Amana troll oncursions.
Fight the War of the Shifting Sands.
Fight against the Horde, Alliance, Scourge and Legion when they arrived.

So they actually did quite alot during the Long Vigil.

While I know this has been debated to death, I still think the night elves were there more as observers, instead of the bloodthirsty maniacs they are made out to be, out to slaughter every last blood elf alive.

I know, the night elves in Silvermoon are pretty aggresive when you encounter them, but that could easily be explained as “Oh dangit, we’re discovered, don’t let em report it back!”

Also, they also easily forget which draenei gave them back their fully powered Sunwell :grumble:

Half of the stuff you linked wasn’t related to nelves but some off factions.

Wonder why they bothered, if they hated each other to the point one was exiled if they didn’t want to face death.

But hey, Blizz will never stop at any occasion to kill the trolls
