Another point is that dks do not have a constant pet, which is represented through the randomised name every summon. Also 2 hunter specs require a pet to be useful, as opposed to only one dk spec.
From a lore perspective, I think it’s reasonable enough, although I can imagine an argument for undead taming as a dk all the same - That being said…
Death Knights raise undead and force them into submission so that they may serve in battle for a brief period of time. They are more opportunistic than something like a hunter, whose lore is based around the idea of spiritually attuning yourself with the beast. The idea could be that they communicate with the remnants of the animal’s mind, rather than the unfeeling and cold undead.
A death knight has virtually no bond with their minions, because they are just that: Minions.
Imagine playing Death Knight in 2020 when Hunters have the most efficient and higher damage.
In all seriousness, Death Knight pets are different from Hunter pets.
Death Knight don’t care to carry around different types of pets (AKA dogs, cats, raptors), the only purpose pets have for a Death Knight is combat.
For instance, if Timmy dies his/her master raise another.
As for Hunters taming Undead, in my opinion it shouldn’t be a thing.
Though I like the idea for my UD hunter. It just does not make sense really. It was wiered when they taimed mechanical pets. Now it is getting out of control.
It seems like they don’t care about class fantasy anymore.
I can kind of see it. If you look at Mechanical Pets, then I would agree, this makes no sense for any character who is not an Engineer or at least understands such things, like, it would make no sense for Brigante to have a mechanical pet, he knows beggar all about engineering.
For a Gnome Hunter, or a Hunter of another race who specifically is an Engineer, in character, then yeah, that works, you’ve not so much tamed them, as put different Index cards into them, or rewired their circuitry or some such, I can totally understand mechanical pets in that way.
Obviously the in-game mechanic is the same for taming them, but I can see a Goblin or Gnome tinkering with an automaton to make it act like a pet.
We only ever saw -one- example of a Death Knight having a constant companion in a similar way (who has now been destroyed at Andorhal), and we have no idea what the relationship was there, as opposed to say, Rexxar and his companions, or Tyrathan Khort and his companion. Was ‘Lurid’ an ex comrade of Thassarians? A family member? a Skeletal warrior who was simply too competent to let go? Could they communicate or was it a more “Skeleton go smush things because I say so” type thing. We know that with Koltira, Thassarian was one of those Death Knights with some sort of morality, so what was ‘Lurid’ to him?
Guess we’ll never know now, but yeah, DK’s seem to be much more the sorts that go “I need a tool, I will raise a tool from the dead” rather than “I have genuine care and affection for this entity, and want it to stay around”
Why you so upseted it?
I was alwasy wanted tame undead pets or dragons years ago.
Now happy finally it.
Since I don’t fan “infected” pets. Since it’s ugly. Undeads more look cool.
