I did it: WoW on a tablet, handheld experience, local play

Yeah, I could probably get better targeting if I worked at it more, but for the purposes of content I want to do on the go, I can’t be asked. Multi-dotting is a pain the current way I do it, but hey, I can save content that requires me to multi-dot efficiently when I’m at home.

I did work to configure things so that I could easily switch from keyboard and mouse to controller whenever I want. For example, while standing up I prefer to use a controller but while sitting down in a bus, I sometimes prefer to use a trackpad and keyboard. If you use a trackpad together with consoleport, you can configure it so you actually switch between having the trackpad change where you’re facing, then right click to make it work like a mouse, then have it go back to changing your direction whenever you start moving.

If you fiddle with it and experiment with it you can get great results, it all depends on how much you are willing to experiment and what kind of content you want to do.

I have it set up so that switching to keyboard and mouse at home is a matter of flicking one setting in Consoleport to disable mouse cursor replacement when starting to move.

Edit:
Consoleport has a default button combination of two shoulder buttons to tab target between targets in front of you so in current implementation I have to face my character in general direction of targets and tab target to get the one I want… that’s good enough for the content I want to do, but as I wrote before can fiddle and experiment to get better solutions.

I don’t think it’s automation to set up keys that allow you to tab target in various directions.

I see your point with targeting, I didn’t know there was addons for this already my bad ^^ It sounds like that is no problem and also like a nice way to do it, if it works well for targeting allied friendly NPC as well.
It’s the initial interaction part is what i’m kinda worried about, depending on the restrictions, a potential multi-purpose initial interaction macro could solve talking to NPC’s, looting etc. But I’m not sure that would be allowed.

Quest delivering and taking shouldn’t be a problem, that can be automated by addons already. Again, it’s the iinitial interaction.

Like the "oldschool 1-button rotation macro’s.

After that first first interaction with NPC/dead mobs, looting can be done by basic game functions and Quest delivering/taking can be automated by addons.

There is an option in Consoleport to turn on a general interact button, it basically switches you to mouse cursor mode, so if you keep the cursor generally in the middle of the screen, most of the time for looting and handing in quests and picking up herbs you just double click the interact button and most of the time it will do what you wanted it to do. Other times you might have to do the right stick button and left stick button combo and change position of mouse cursor. It’s not automated, it’s just designed to work with options available on controller. It’s just as “automated” as left clicking and right clicking on a mouse.

As I said, Consoleport is a well thought out and developed addon. Lots of people use it at home, not just in my kind of use case. Some people perhaps have disability issues that make it easier for them to play with controller. I am not doing anything innovative by using Consoleport, I am just combining that together with a tablet and compromising on graphics quality to be able to fill dead time with WoW whenever I want.

Hasn’t Ion been playing wow like this for a while?

Played on cell phone last year. i would sent video but don’t want subject 18+

There are shooter games for phones, why do you think wow ,with something like demon hunter who has two buttons for eye beam and killing spree, is unplayable on handhelds ?

Adequate for M+ :scream::scream::scream:

Edit: if people start doing M+ on devices like this the new requirement for a pug will be: “checking RIO, please email photo of computer to”!

in my case it was dwarf hunter

I find this kind of funny

As much as I disagree with you that WoW should be playable on mobile consoles/books, I still applaud you for all the effort, time & thought you’ve put into this. You are clearly very passionate about it and your knowledge on the subject is astonishing.

Still, perhaps there is a way of making a mobile gaming platform for WoW without sacrificing the complexity of the game/justify more pruning.

Perhaps the controller should have a smart camera AI to give you the optimal view, so both of your hands could focus on keybinds & movement. Maybe some clutch buttons like 1-2 + basic press to bind up to 3 abilities per a keybind slot.

Actually, there is kind of something like that already in console port. :stuck_out_tongue:
Camera aims at your target automatically so you dont have to move it, it also aims at the target that is attacking you, but you need to have the target on your screen in order for it to focus camera on the target. You could turn it off and on, you could also change the camera position so it will give a sight behind your character shoulder just like you have in ESO or GW2.

In this addon you could set up to 40 buttons for skills you want, im not counting buttons that are used for utility and camera controls. When you include every combination of buttons there are 60 possible combinations to use which each of them could be given different function.

Giving Blizzard some nice ideas…

Don’t most consoles have attachable keyboards and mouse these days?

USB one would presume. I’ve not had a console since SNES!

PC master race.

I much prefer playing on the PC and will tab in and out for work stuff (self employed) while waiting for a group to form, which I can’t do on a console.

That said, the growth in both the console and mobile markets is now outstripping growth in the PC market. It will be only a matter of time before all games are developed for the console as well as the PC. That is not to say that the PC still won’t give more pleasure to those us who know how to use it, Skyrim mods and programmable console for example.
