I like the look of the new zone but

So like I said I like the look, but I had this itch when I was watching the video, something about these (and I will be very happy if a Trust Level 3 can help me out a bit here).

Looked very familiar…

This is Metrica Province, the Azura starting zone from Guild Wars 2

Disclaimer: Now these are not really side by side comparisons, more like random screen shots to get the feel and point of the 2 zone (+the raid zone). Sorry I could not find (couldn’t be asked) to find the underwater hexagon platforms/pillars but they are also from GW2 and particularly core to the Azura aesthetic.

Now I’m not necessarily holding this against them, like I said I really like the look of the zone from what I saw, but making this connection to GW2 (if there actually is one, it could just be me) kinda cheapens it and furthers the narrative that “Blizzard is creatively bankrupt”.

Side Rant: This really nitpicky but, I really hate it when creatives and writhers say stuff like “we walk on water… somehow” and “we don’t know/fully understand”… yes you do, you are the people who created it (or if you truly don’t know then yikes, you have failed at world building), talk more professionally when promoting your content please. Substitute “somehow/don’t know” with “we will find out how”.

Overall despite this I am looking forward to 9.2, the zone and raid do look interesting, the tier sets not so much, I am also hoping that the new “alphabet” thingy will be fun and promote zone exploration and not just be another soulless grind like Korthia. And ffs let us fly in the new all the zones… Maw/Korthia/Whatever the new one was called.

Bump. Someone have the patience to show that?

Couldn’t show the pictures from the current links so had to re-upload them. Anyway:

Does look heavily inspired.

I think inherently there is going to be some massive overlaps within games, it’s what happens.

Albeit, that’s why I probably liked the zone as I liked that in GW2 haha. I mean… if they’re going to start taking inspiration from GW2’s open world then yes please, GW2 is the best open world MMO around.

I’m familiar with the GW2 zone. Been a long time since I played it.
I’m not bothered by similarities. It’s geometrical shapes, those tend to look alike.

WoW itself was just a ‘less gritty’ version of Warhammer back in the day.
It’s all good.

thanks nagrash. you are so kind
wow these are really similar.

The zone in GW2 is one of my favorites, I really like the high tech + old ruins mash up aesthetic, I will probably end up liking the WoW one more because generally I prefer the more cartoony art style that Blizzard do. I guess my frustration(If I can even call it that) comes from the fact I was hoping for something more original, but will see maybe the similarities are only surface level and when we see the whole thing it will be something completely different.

Also nice Hawkeye mog Tahra.

It looks like a fusion between nagrand and the oasis patches in tempest keep with the consortium.

do you know? when SL launched i was thinkin why the npc in oribos werent more similar to the consortium ones. Would added a mistery to their origin. (sorry but verbs… and other things are my weakest point in english)

Yeah had similar thoughts when I first saw the Brokers (and the consortium dudes being mainly traders and thieves) kinda had this head canon that the they were ethereals that took a different path… but hey we got 1000 other retcons in lore thanks to SL sooo… yeah.

Thank you!

Maybe Blizzard is using the same assets respository as GW2 or they have the same contractors working in design and art. Blizzard did confirm that Revendreth uses assets from a game that was never built, hence it does not really feel like a WOW zone, its more like Castlevania or some other vampire type game. Either way it definitely looks the same or similar.

im not gonna lie… but it looks like a clone of the Asura zones from gw2…

seriously???

EDIT: the asura zone looks better too

I think that’s a matter of taste, like I said above I think I will like the WoW version of the zone more because I like the more cartoony style but will have to see the full picture before.

possibly i do love Gw2 zones i think they are the best on the market.

damn. you are makin me the will to retry gw2. Grrrr now i have already installed Wow and FFXIV.

I like them from a mechanical standpoint, as in lots of things to do in them (jumping puzzles, world events, vistas etc), aesthetically they are hit and miss (loved most of the vanilla zones but the expansion ones are lame) and I don’t like that the world isn’t connected like WoWs is and there is a loading screen every time you enter a new zone. But one thing I will give to GW2, they nailed the flow between exploration and achievements.

Soo, are you trying to tell me that Asura from Guildwars 2 were the makers of the makers of the makers? Makes sense if you really put some thought on it.

Disclaimer: This was a joke and would like to add that very good find! I got that same itch when watching the video

Confirmed, after the End Of Dragons the surviving Azuras created the WoW universe XD.
