90% of the Novella was tainted by the last 4 pages.
That doesn’t make it any worse. It just ruins it as a whole because of an awful ending.
Elegy painted a scenario that had Malfurion fending of entire regiments of Horde soldiers, and that had the Horde with serious disadvantage even with an advantage of 8 to 1.
How is that painting them incompetent?

Malfurion would be very upset to see what his people have done, Sylvanas thought. The wound is open. The bleeding has begun, but they use their hatred in such pitiful ways.The kaldorei knew they were outnumbered. They knew their homeland was lost. Maybe a few of them knew in their hearts—just as she knew—that Darnassus would one day burn to ashes. All they could do, in their rage, was make these poor souls suffer.
Because only an idiot leaves his most valuable province empty while an enemy host is marching next to it.
So blizzard had the perfect story and they gave that up for what we currently have ingame?

That’s like Tolkien giving up on his saga and rewriting it as “Frodo wanted more cookies so he threw Gandalf out the door. The end”.

Nah, we know the origins of troggs since vanilla.
Because we need all the gnomes we can get, but every trogg is one trogg too many! Well… except if they got to pandaria and drank magic water. Grummles rule!

That’s exactly how the Alliance managed to invade Zuldazar.
Plus, it wasn’t left empty. And the writers managed to paint the ones remaining in a rather competent light.
That sort of strategy has worked in the past. Both IRL and in other narratives like Game of Thrones.

The fact Anduin is high king is already super stupid. Don’t need the horde to remind me of that. (Also I like Anduin character but not that high king crap).
Nope. The Alliance set a diversionary force posturing as the main army. The Night elves raced to Silithus while a massive army was marching next to Ashenvale.
Indeed, but the strategy in general is incompetent.
Someone being dumb in real life or in another fantasy series does not interest me.
A better scenario, at least for me, would be the night elves heavily defending Ashenvale while the Horde is marching past. Once they are certain the Horde has gone south, they go to their ships. Sea-travel is quicker, is it not?
Then Saurfang steals a march on them once the fleet is out of the lines of communication. Voila, better war.
