I'm not sure why Blizzard insists so much on integrating Shadowlands elements in modern WoW

Yep, but it does not mean I am lying or somehow just praising blizzard. SL was truly fun to me

The simple answer is that it’s cheaper to produce this kind of content.

your rant is EPIC

I think its good that they’ve found a way to tie brokers into the lore a bit more. Shadowlands exists whether we like it or not, so making it feel part of the game, rather than a neglected and failed expansion, alleviates my bitterness a little bit.

Interestingly, the original lore of the brokers stated that they were quote “Native to the shadowlands” and not k’aresh, so they were likely changed by Metzen. I don’t mind it. Ven’ari and Locus Walker are a pretty cool dynamic and it makes enough sense that I’m not mad about it

brokers being ethereals imo is a change a lot of people would’ve welcomed from day 1 (shadowlands)

I’m hoping for a first ones = what the shadowlands calls the titans next, they are functionally the same already

no way that pantheon of death was on par with titans, they had keeper energy at best

I hated shadowlands. Since alts was very unfriendly and story dont fit about WoW.
And other play was uninterested. Myself quitted/skipped years from SL.

So it was the last good expansion then.

It was the best of the last 3.

Well, there’s your problem. You like it because it was the expansion you started with and have nothing to compare it to.

That’s why. You didn’t have the previous expansions to compare it to.

Storytelling in SL, DF or TWW is not “bad” in the sense of presentation and writing. It’s bad in the sense that characters act “against their own character” compared to what they used to before BFA, it’s bad in the sense that it performs retcons, it’s bad in that it creates plotholes and it’s bad in the resolutions of most stories which are anti-Warcraft compared to what the series had gotten us used to for more than 25 years of existence.

The fact that Shadowlands was also a massive downgrade content-wise compared to both Legion and BFA does not help either. If gameplay cannot hold up a game, mishaps in the story don’t get forgiven as easily.

Pretty much every one of us was peeved that Brokers existed in the first place. They were literally Ethereals just with a different skin. We all wondered “Why not just add Ethereals, why create a new race?”. The fact that it turns out they were actually the same (and even gave a lore explanation for them having different appearance) is welcome.

Yet most people like DF and TWW and I’m not sure why. It feels empty content wise

It’s a combination of many factors.

Shadowlands was a downgrade over previous expansions:

  • We couldn’t mount in the Maw
  • We couldn’t even play “normally” in the Maw due to the Eye of the Jailer mechanic (it was the first time where there was actual game-imposed punishment for fighting enemies instead of running to the objective).
  • Torghast was that much of a chore required for grinding Legendary equipment that earned it the nickname “Choregast”.
  • The Covenants were not welcome because many players had to choose a Covenant they didn’t like thematically to be able to perform in cutting edge content. If you also remember, we couldn’t change Covenants like talents, there was a very strict limitation of 1 change per 2 weeks or something. This even prohibited experimentation.
  • The Anima grind was insanely slow and demanding. Some people even did math in Season 1 in SL to prove that doing absolutely everything every day for 2 years straight (which was the expected lifetime of an expansion) would still not bring a player enough anima to unlock everything that Season 1 alone presented. And Anima was not used for cosmetics only, it was actually used for power progress too.
  • There was a lot of cut content. There was at least 1 raid tier removed (Thros, which became Korthia and which has left another story unresolved) and the number of dungeons introduced was the lowest ever in the game’s history. It was the first expansion since WoD to not have a x.3 patch.

On the opposite hand, both DF and TWW have fixed the above (mostly):

  • Not only are there no mounting limitations, we even got the fastest non-teleportation mode of transport in Skyriding.
  • There are no obnoxious grinds in content one does not enjoy for upgrading “borrowed power” equipment. Circe’s Circlet, the belt from delves and now the Cloak all have very quick and painless grinding requirements.
  • Dragon Isles resources were actually bountiful and even without going out of one’s way to farm for them you’d still earn enough to unlock everything (provided you played the game). Now the same cannot be said for Resonant Crystals, they are Anima 2.0 and their income is abhorrently low.
  • While we did not get more raids or dungeons, we have gotten a lot more interesting content: In DF we got Attack on Obsidian Citadel, Maruuk hunts, Cooking event in Iskaara, Primalist Future, that thing with Soridormi, the Tree event in Emerald Dream. And in TWW we got Delves. Shadowlands didn’t have any such content, everything non-instanced was just World Quests and Daily quests.

With the group it could take only few hours, so not sure why it was such a big deal

Only few people really are affected by that, most people should not care about stuff like that. Wannabe tryhards

So choose the ones you like and go for that??

But didn’t Selphucher had a lot of bosses, it was really cool raid. Nowadays there are less bosses, so less content
