I did play a nelf hunter in the early days but then MoP happened and I met the Pandaren…since then she has been my main and Im too attached to change now!
If your planning on playing a DPS with strength in the meta look at utility. Outlaw rogue for example if u log at logs u will see their overall dps is never comparible to several classes, however the amount of utility makes them a staple of m+
Mage is a very good option, being ranged is a advantage, it has great mobility and CC options in pve, 3 speccs so likelyhood of being bad is unlikely.
Ontop brings a int buff and bloodlust which are 2 defintly demanded things.
As much as shadow priest is looking ok id honestly avoid classes with only 1 dps specc if ur looking to primarily be dps.
My recommendations would likely be.
Warrior, Shaman, Warlock, Mage Rogue or DK.
They all bring unique utility, they have more then 1 dps specc, generally are good performers. The only thing some will have a advantsge is, being ranged. Being ranged is a asset in meta as lots prefer ranged as melee tend to simply be taken less.
Paladin because screw meta, I like my damn Paladin.
Get into a guild that isn’t toxic (hard though I know) and will form groups with any class and ta da, you can be competitive.
Death knight because I love this class. Main focus on m+ and KSM, I think frost DK is fun and easy enough.
Also it’s very useful in m+ with grips and CR.
Than theme and lore, great class overall.
