This story (and I swear I wrote better when I was 12) is the main reason I did indeed cancel my sub and now just wait til my paid game time ends. Until then these forums are better entertainment than the game. I might consider coming back if they really would change the stories so that they feel like the ones until Cataclysm but I doubt that day will ever come. Lotro is a pay-to-win, Guild Wars is just a mindless grind and FFXIV is much too anime for me so I guess my MMO days are over. My friends all left already last year saying Shadowlands was the “worst piece of crap they had ever seen”.
Edit: About this current matter; I have a friend who’s ethnic roma. For years he received all kinds of threats and crap talk because of his ethnicity, and still does though less now than before. But now, on top of that, he’s also too white and too male so there’s a brand new enemy and this time nobody stands for him. Hate speech is hate speech, no matter who is targeted and no history, however bad it is, gives you the right to do so.

Wowhead is considered “official fan site” up to point where the automated replies to GM tickets (the only responses you get nowadays btw) mention it as a source when sorting out your own problems. Doing something that would annoy Blizzard could possibly endanger this status and that would directly affect the ad money they collect from each visit.

She is also a colossal racist and sexist, and Blizzard, by retaining her NPC are signalling that they are actually OK with racism and sexism, which most normal people would regard as -not- OK.

Who do you think -sold- the slaves that -they- had taken to villainous white men and had been enthusiastically doing long before anyone with white skin set foot on that continent? What skin colour did they have, would you say?

Also, which Continent gave us the absolutely abhorrent practice of FGM which still plagues us to this day? I’ll give you a clue, it wasn’t Europe.
Lets go further, what was the ethnicity who regarded it as OK to bind women’s feet so that they were crippled and could not move faster than a slow shuffle, on the grounds that they found it sexually appealing? So be careful when generalising, because unless you have a fairly good grounding in world history, you just end up sounding foolish.

I actually do have a fairly detailed understanding of my ancestry, as you would expect from a BA (hons) in History person. So let me see, I have no ancestors who were involved in the slave trade, I do have ancestors who fought at the battle of Agincourt, and the Napoleonic Wars, but that’s pretty much a natural pastime for the British, drinking to excess, sarcasm and fighting the French. (That was humorously meant, for any of our Gallic friends out there!) I have an ancestor who was a Highwayman noted for “His Flamboyance as much as his Ineptitude” who was hanged (second time around, first time the rope snapped and someone said 'Even Hell won’t take him!) So that’s pretty naughty, and then a female ancestor who was also hanged for being a witch and is listed in the Witchcraft museum’s archives. Not sure if she ever turned anyone into a newt, sickened livestock or inflicted people with a surfeit of boils, but hanged as a Witch she was…
Before then you’re mostly looking at people for whom an average tuesday night was stripping naked, painting yourself blue, grabbing a tool (I mean a weapon! Minds out of the gutter, people! ), getting smashed on ‘stuff’ and then going cattle raiding, so naughty, but only in the way that all Celts were naughty.
So actually, no, I don’t think I have any Karma coming round my way, based on my forfathers/mothers, to be honest.
So don’t be like Madeleine Roux, basically. She is an uneducated hack writer (Her stuff is painful to read to anyone who is a fan of literature) who is a -Racist- and a -Sexist-, and also believes in Racial Profiling. That is Madeleine Roux. Someone who should be scorned and held with the contempt she deserves, not a vanity NPC in a computer game.

Whilst I’m no where near as clued up on history as you I do find the whole ‘slavery’ discussion fairly humorous when people act like it wasn’t their own selling them off.
Thank you for the ancestry piece as well, absolutely excellent. Ancestry truly captivates me, only recently finding out that on my fathers side we actually originated from Greece.
Crazy thing is - I have always had a major crush on Ancient Greek and Greece itself. Never knew why!
Mothers side was a tad harder but turns out at some point we had a pirate among us!

Ah you see the popular narrative is if you are being nasty to whities it’s not racist and the twitterati will sing a chorus of platitudes for you to do it.
When the opposite happens ofc you get obliterated off the internet and depending on the severity of the incident incurr problems with your current job and/or finding another job.

I personally have never seen a person of different skin colour and immediately thought
“I really must racially abuse that person…”
Nor have I seen a person of the opposite sex and thought
“I really must sexually abuse her or at the very least make her feel uncomfortable with what I say and how I act…”

When you apply for a new job, you have to delete all social media & also check google for any images & news articles, then write to Google & get them taken down, get banned from Twitter is easy & always use a fake name, always :))

Both sides of the same coin, you get absolute chucklheads on twitter and absolute morons on reddit or the right leaning websites.
Most sensible people are actually in the middle and judge it on a case by case basis.
Let us take Madeline Roux as an example of an ill educated racist sexist.
“You can’t be racist against white people!” Really, does she think that the borders of the world are constrained between California who she writes for, and New York which she also writes for? What sheer arrogance? What a lack of knowledge. Perhaps someone should explain to her the words ‘Gweilo’ and ‘Gai-jin’ from China and Japan, both of which specifically referred to the colour of someone’s skin (White) as a racial epithet.
She clearly has no education, and is not qualified to make such statements, even if they were acceptable, which they are not. “When will white people just stop!” she angrily tweeted, without realising that her objection was related to a couple calling their cat ‘Abracadabra’ Apparently that is racist against Arabic people, which again proves she is an absolutely thick racist. The term ‘Abracadabra’ as a term (Which culturally means as much as Hey Presto!) when a magician uses it actually stemmed and was first documented and used in Europe and Greece, and ancient Rome. She also doesn’t understand how sexism works. “Misandry is a new term invented to make white men feel better about themselves!”
I think you’ll find Madeleine, that ‘Misandry is the direct opposite of Misogyny and both of the terms were created at the same time, because they meant polar opposites you muppet!’ My Gods, she’s never read any Classics at all has she? That NPC needs to go, or it is sending a really counterproductive message, that racism and sexism are OK.
I doubt they will have the courage of their convictions however.
