A tank’s job is to keep the target away from the group, not itself. How would you ensure that the boss is situated an a specific place. Solutions to this problem could be very OP in certain situations.
Blizzard didn’t help by making all classes able to withstand a beating before they die. DPS should not be able to take any damage from a boss and tank should not be able to heal like a healer, or do meaningful damage. Don’t get me started on healer dps
Along with class identity bring back role identity.
Unfortunately go, go, go is intrinsically built in to M= encounters. Leeroy is rewarded more than careful strategy and planning.
Evoker does not need a Tank spec.
Every other class released before had one and it did nothing against the shortage of tanks. The Tank shortage can only be resolved by a new Raid design where for every full group in the raid aka every 4-5 players there is 1 tank needed.
That would push more people to play tank in raids.
Also People need to be more chill in PuGs for M+.
No toxicity and stuff. Let Tanks learn how to do their stuff and help them. That would also encourage more tanks.
Evoker is a Hero class that just like the Hero classes before fulfills 2 roles.
The previous Hero classes offered Tank and Melee dps as their Role (Imho DK could have been a 2 spec class just like the DH (who needs Unholy anyway))
Now it is time to give Evoker the choice of Heal and Range dps.
Evoker is the first Range dps ever to be added to the game. Range dps overall even lost one spec in Legion.
And with Evoker we finally have the same amount of tanking classes to Heal classes.
Well, if they removed unholy (I do play an unholy, but that is because it was better than frost when i made him. Then they could add in some of the abilites to a necromancer class. But proberly to late to remove the spec completely. Plus it’s off topic
Yes, the Evoker getting a tank specc might not result in more tanks.
But the Evoker not getting a tank specc is likely to result in less tanks, as some players who usually play tank, or are willing to do so if necessary and possible, might (rather will) start Dragonflight with an Evoker, thus not being able to tank.
Another point that isn’t mentioned but I care about is that for the first time in WoW, there will be a race unable to fill every role.
Having a favorite role and not being able to play it on a certain class, that we know and live with.
Not being able to play your role on a certain race, that’s new, and I don’t really like that idea.
There are at least one massive problem with making invoker a tank it would have to be Melee changing the medium range thing they have been promoting so far.
There would be a massive outcry here from the very people who wants a tank spec in the first place.
The reason is all the mechanics that would either just murder your melee players or would need to be changed making things much much easier.
Dungeons would become about kiting again something all tanks dislike a lot.
some argue they would have to change quite a bit about it, due to invoker being a medium ranged. But druid already has ranged and melee, of what I have understood about the class
Evoker doesn’t need a tank spec. It’s a ranged dps/healer class like priest.
If they want to give Dracthyr a tank option just reskin demon hunters to look like dragons and its done.
