Is Social guilds not a thing in 2021?

Social guilds (aka mass of people that barely talk and don’t even know their GM/officers are) are a plague that should be gone forever

The guild I am in is basically casual and friendly with al, sorts of players - there is a starting raid team once per week and they are aiming to build up a bit for that but it’s not a driving force and there is no heavy push for raiding recruitment -

I am sure there are plenty of others

Becouse wow is esport and ff is more casual friendly.

You have to have social players to have social guilds. Guess it’s the social player that is bleeding out of WoW.

Ours is a guild of 4 RL friends. Only thing is, 3 of them have left for FFXIV.

On the plus side, lots of space in the guild bank.

Remember my first guilds back in Vanilla and TBC, Night Swarm on Kul Tiras and later Spinal Tap. Both guilds were full of friends with a lively chat scene and plenty of fun and helping each other. Alas these days the busiest I see chat these days in my current guild is the occasional gz or hi.

I’m not sure WoW is a platform to be social anymore.
People use Discord and [anti]social media.

I’m sure there are social guilds out there, but I see that people do their thing, others can only tag along.

Part of the issue is, in my opinion, the abundance of options …
… Competing with the game, whenever you decide to do something, there are millions of other options you chose not to do, and that stings. Hence, everything must be done as efficiently as possible, and the only thing you can do to feel the least bad about it, is to optimise fun per second. Music while dungeoning, some video while farming, podcast while walking, and so on.

… In case of WoW coupled with goals. Everything you did achieve, it’s time to repeat. Everything you didn’t achive, it’s your chance. The game will move on, and eventually go away. No time to waste, is your shaman still 35? Too low, must catch up!

On that note, I’m leaving to play! But, first, final episode of the season, because that’s more interesting.

Omg, I feel this story on a very deep level.

Exactly this thing happened to my guild that I disbanded two days ago. It’s been a 2-years long journey that ended, because most of the times players just left for a better guild. It really brings you down, when you put tons of efforts and hustle to setup a raiding team and then most of the roster doesn’t log in without a single word, so you have to pug and after that, even those who seemed to be loyal and stayed through ups and downs suddenly leave because of that laid-back part.

On the topic: I can’t imagine what a social guild would do tbh. My and Nitouche’s experience says it either transforms into a raiding guild or disbands. Note, that we had people who didn’t raid, but quite frankly, they never interacted with others in any way, so if that’s the case for the most of “social” guild (which i think it is) it’s gonna be a really empty and lonely place to be in.

I always think it’s so much harder to find a social guild as opposed to a raiding one. We have lots of recruiting tools/sites for raiding but none for social guilds.

They may or may not advertise on the individual forum realms. Some raiding guilds do take in socials as well.

 i know your pain been there done that
I said never again

You’ll find the most social guilds on Argent Dawn alliance, RP servers are completely different from normal ones. Even trade chat is social while on normal servers it’s just boost spam.

social guilds are dead by now .

only guilds left are raiding guilds where “social life” happens on discord not in game. - most of time outside of raid night those guild have like 5-6 people online max

honestly go play FF14 - its the mmorpg to play in 2021 thats where all people have gone to.

Social guilds seem to have moved over to discord groups or communities. Seems logical since if all you want is social interaction then a discord server can have all the exclusivity of needing and invite to get in, with added modern benefits the wow guild system doesn’t offer.

FF isn’t much of a social game either.

TBC Classic guilds are way better and what you’re looking for. Shame its on TBC Classic xD

I recommend rp servers even if you don’t rp. Perhaps finding uber mythic people might be harder later, but for being introduced and finding community those realms are go to.

Well. There may be some social stuff left, but this game is so much focused on the end game content of raiding, pvp and mythic+, that if you think you can find FF levels of community and social stuff here, you’re in for a big disappointment.

I don’t get the clamour to big up the FF social aspect, you have exactly the same issue there where you have to actively seek it should you so desire to have it.

Free Company = WoW Community

Not really no.

I joined a random FC, giving away invitations.

There’s a discord. People talk all the time. They even discuss wow stuff.

And they help each other out when you reach out to them for stuff.

And i see plenty of these things happening around me.

There might not be a flashy light ahead of everything, directing you to a community bit by bit and step by step…

But it’s plainly obvious what to do. And you can do it easily.

Most of these casual invitations i’ve seen in wow results in just another barely functioning, half sleep clan that no one talks in or helps.

Again, you are comparing a guild to a free company, I said a community, which by and large everything mentioned above occurs. I’ve joined FCs where there is literally nothing happening, I’ve joined WoW guilds where you can hear a pin drop.

Joining a good FC is very much akin to joining a good WoW community, saying one is going to lead to more social interactivity is wholly dependent on that individuals needs and wants at the time.
