Is there a prevailing AD view on the Dragonflight 5-year time skip?

I don’t think I’ve made a big deal out of it IC, but if I were to encounter someone referring to the passage of those three years, I’d go along with it just fine. It’s arguably a bit weird to have a time skip wherein precious little has happened narratively - but then again, not much weirder than every other year bringing about some world-ending crisis. Suspension of disbelief and all that.

That’s what they get for not being elves, I say! :person_with_crown:

Despite having been mostly pointless because nothing happened, it is still canon and denying the passage of time breaks continuity in a way that is just not reconcilable for other players. Anyone who didn’t want to age their character by three years could just harmlessly retcon them three years younger.

It was the beards that started glowing, the eyes just got ressed up.

That’s what I did. Lintian’s three years offscreen were spent on mage education in Dalaran (in addition to three years she spent there in real time).

Justicar has aged through the years certainly. Now middle aged and far grumpier but less prone to just smack someone in the mouth for pissing him off.

It was quite a mental journey thinking of his progression in-between my breaks from the game and considering what he’s been up to as I do take a semi-rp headspace that follows his adventuring travels through the expansions, even Shadow lands >.<

It was just bonkers, really. You’d been RPing the night before, and were then expected to act like three years had passed the very next day over, all while the shores of Durotar still have ship wrecked orcs and invading Northwatch on them.

To be fair, it’s not like they have a choice!

As a monk RP, my monk just meditated and did xianxia stuff during that 3 years of time skip.
Since I also didn’t roleplay Shadowlands content, I technically was meditating for arround 5 years, i got some new nice attire, some new nice powers related to traditional Chinese fantasy+me being for years in a mage focus guild.

Like, arcane school of magic:divination , using a Luopan, a feng shui traditional compass as the tool ( something I can roleplay visually with the compass toy )

I’m confused now, was there actually a “skip” i.e. fade to black at the end of an expansion and then screen fades in with “3 years later” or are we just talking about time served in game during expansions here?

Yes, there were 3 years between the end of Shadowlands and beginning of Dragonflight that were not portrayed in any way in the game. So, effectively we ended last Slands patch in year 37 and started DF pre-patch the next day in year 40.

Or ended at the end of year 36, started pre-patch at the end of 39 and then DF started at the start of 40, it gets bit confusing because while Blizzard tells us the years when an expansion took place, they view 2 year expansion as taking place in (for example) years 33-34 while next 2 year expansion takes place in 35-36. In reality though, every single expansion except TBC took place during 3 years even if it only lasted 2 because that’s how time works.

After SL ended, and we get DF pre patch, 3 years have passed.
Apart from just blizzard telling us that it happened, I do only remember one mention to it, and I don’t even remember if it made it out of the PTR.

It made it to live. The reason why major events didn’t happen during the time skip is because of the common criticism players have had about how major events should be playable in-game and not happen off screen or in a book. Danuser specifically mentions the reclamation of Gilneas in the post about the time skip and what it means for the timeline, and that ultimately they decided it’s an event that needs to be done in-game. Otherwise it’d have happened over the three year skip.

My character became 5 years older. I like to keep track of these kinds of things.

Especially with how orc aging works.

Don’t need to worry about getting decrepit if you just siphon lifeforce from viable donors using profane magics!
