This. Personally, I’m on the side of yeah, let’s get more challenging world content, but everything about the Maw was just awful, and it has nothing to do with the “challenge”. It’s a nightmare to navigate, it looks ugly, many parts are literally painful to look at, and it’s just boring, has no weight story-wise (I mean, we are in literal Hell, it’s not like what we do makes any meaningful difference)… it’s just a a total mess.
I’d rank it as the #1 worst zone ever added to the game. Even among Shadowlands zones it’s bad (btw, Korthia, Bastion and Exile’s Reach would also make my top 10 for worst zones. 4/10 are from this miserable expansion).
I just rolled back on to check out SL after two and a half years away from the game, and what I found certainly won’t endear me to sticking around. I don’t want mobs that kill me in the open world, I just want to faceroll and relax, if I want to have to sit up, stay awake, and stress out over performance, I’d be running M+ or mythic. I have enough stresses in real life running a business without having to stress out about performing to standard with groups in a video game.
And I know my class, I have 3X cutting edge from MOP on my US account, and three CM realm best times. And when I bothered I did everything on +10 in season 2 of BFA on this account. But I don’t have time for that anymore, and just want to chill and faceroll a few buttons to kill a mob, is that so terrible that I’m past the point of caring about getting skilled on a toon, on a DPS class that I never played DPS in serious content. You could always chill out in the open world in most xpacs, there is plenty of challenge for those who to invest time in it elsewhere.
My plan was just play through the content, keep my toons at 60 and unsub until the next xpac, however if all they are going to do is put this sort of grindy, unfun, mob cluttered timesump into the game, then I can’t even do that.
I just never play shadow, and I don’t really want to have to think about it for just questing.
Then quit, I’m tired of having the game destroyed by people like you who just want it dumbing down to the lowest common denominator.
“Stressing about trying to stay alive in a questing zone”. Like, really? At 229 ilevel.
And noone cares about a CE from 11 years ago, why even mention it? Are you putting yourself in a box with all us toxic elitists or are you using it to somehow delude yourself that you can play (where you later p much admit you cant)
You’re literally moaning its too hard, at the same time admitting you don’t do shadow and don’t care to learn.
I want the game to be a lot easier so you can just log in when you feel like, run content without being stressed out having to perform at an e-sports level, and actually enjoy it.
The game has been destroyed from where it was in WOTLK, into something that keeps catering more and more to a tiny percentage of its ever diminishing player base.
There’s a mount equipment sold for something like 500g on the AH which prevents daze, and there’s no open world scaling in SL.
As for weak players… You’ll get to buy 226 gear for 500 anima in 9.2, that’s 9.0’s mythic ilvl. No one will have any issue with the maw by the time the expansion ends.
Just skip it altogether, Korthia is less annoying and more rewarding than the maw. If you’re in need of relics just join a rift farm group on the group finder upon unlocking the rift keys.
I mean the concept of a river of souls dates back to the Greek mythology, that kinda makes sense to Include one in the Azeroth equivalent of hell.
I have to agree, I just got into the Maw with this alt when gear was at around ilevel 150.
Feels like the worst part of Vanilla/TBC Mage levelling, kill a mob, drink, kill a mob, drink, rinse and repeat a gazillion times.
The zone is so densly packed there’s barely anywhere you can get a rest from it. I get that that is the theme of the place and it’s supposed to be a dangerous place, but from a gameplay perspective it sucks to play in the area… Even worse if you skip that garbage area and go straight to Korthea.
In general no, but the maw is clearly hinting a bit towards the souls franchise with the whole dropping half your currency on death and having to run back to your corpse to get it.
I don’t understand why anyone thinks the 1%ers want to do any of this. They would far rather just get raid ready through the usual gearing routes and be done.
Nobody WANTS to do these grinds, we are compelled to do them for player power.
Those quests were almost always by-passable. If none of your friends were online or nobody was around, you just went and did other quests.
Wrath had enough quests to go from 70 to 80 in about four zones start in Borean Tundra then Dragonblight, Zul Drak and ding max in Icecrown. Your alt could go Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Sholazar and ding in Storm Peaks. And that was even with by-passing the group quests.
That’s the main reason I fondly remember Wrath. I could level a few alts without repeating very many quests.
it depends what class are you playing… If you play hunter, demon hunter, paladin or warlock then yes… you may want more challenge. The problem in wow is that there is a huge gap between classes for solo content. Some classes are gods while others are trash.
Imho all classes should have a spec for solo content. For example, frost mage could have a tanking pet like voidwalker and be easy on solo. While fire and arcane would be the “group” specs.
Yeah i never liked the design of crapping mobs in every little area there is
Specially funny when you run away from a mob and it takes literally 2 minutes, and when it finally is about to evade you pull another mob because theres nowhere else to run from it
And i havent even mentioned the swarms in the air, that crap should have died in nazjatar where they started spamming air mobs
The people who wanted that went to classic
The ones who are left of us wants stuff like daze gone and such
