It is Time to Ban WoW Addons

That person is very hostile and not worth engaging with if I’m honest with you, sadly those people think they’re far superior to other players.

Understandable, each to their own, I use to run completely custom UI’s back when I raided and such but now from the outside I see the damage certain mods are doing to this game, I’m not advocating all addons removed only specific ones that drastically adjust combat for you.

Where I can use the basic UI for combat perfectly fine and you cant so you need addons to improve the look of your UI to your taste - That is fine and there’s nothing wrong with both scenarios.

Hell… I used to be a heavy advocate for mods and if people in my group didnt have the right mods installed they were removed from the raids until they got them, Not my finest hours.

Buff tracking is all the way at the top right of your screen and there’s 6514665 buffs displayed at almost all times, not to mention as they appear and expire the icons keep jumping around, so keeping track of a particular buff is basically impossible.

For example as a demo lock, without any addons, I’d have no idea when my dreadstalkers are about to expire and give me demonic core procs, and I’d also have no idea how many of those procs I have without looking for the tiny icon with an even tinier number at the top right of my screen among the heap of other buffs. So all of it would be guess work with a ton of overcapping and little ability to plan my rotation ahead of time. All the basic UI could track properly are my soul shards. Now add the fact that I can get extra demonic core procs from imps expiring/imploding, which can’t be tracked in any way without addons either. Even casting a hand of gul’dan can give me a demonic core. The default UI only shows me that I have a demonic core, not how many of them. And that’s just one spec. No offense but BM hunter just doesn’t have a lot to keep track of as it’s arguably the simplest spec in the game, as long as only your DPS rotation is concerned.

Any sort of buff that doesn’t have it’s own telegraphing, the default UI basically doesn’t even tell you that you have it if you aren’t actively starting the top right of your screen looking for it, even those that do aren’t done well. Keeping track of durations/stacks.

Even when you consider the things that are shown, they are still mostly all over the place and not easily visible. I could start listing all the things that the default UI doesn’t do well, but we’d be here forever.

And now even if we omit all of the functional stuff, we’re still left with personal preference. If someone wants to reposition the UI elements, or change how they look, change the fonts, scale, colours etc. I see no reason why they should be banned from doing that when it’s been a thing since vanilla. Not to mention there’s people with disabilities who can use addons to help them play the game.

Edit: correction about the dreadstalkers part, there is a tracker for the demons in the default UI, but there still isn’t anything for imps or demonic core stacks.

I am superior to some LFR raider who cries about rio and is on some huge copium about how removing other addons would be good for the game.

I was about to say I’ve never played Demo and I havent touched my warlock in a long time, but this is were the players have the opportunity to feed that back to the Devs so they can improve upon their UI but as I said in my last post this is not about getting rid of the personal fluff people like but the addons that effect the way the game plays.

Hahah sorry but I’ll call hearsay, you hide your profile like a coward, I’ve already admitted to not raiding for years as I have a very busy worklife schedule and play very little WoW in my spare time.

I’m done with you now kid, move along.

Yeah you’ve only done lfr on this character soooo… And not even till the end.

You can’t hide armory profiles.

I only did LFR to try to get tier pieces before I could craft them from the catalyst. I didn’t get any. Wouldn’t have touched LFR if not for that.

Elahri if you feel like you need addon to help with healing, a UI that helps you see things better, aight well go for it.

I’m only against the ones used in raids that tell specifically were to stand. And honestly dps meters breed toxicity which you have shown yourself already.

I raid because it’s fun and want to have fun with others, don’t need to do top dps to still be able to your part.

They prevent people from getting carried, you mean. When I’m outdpsing a dps as the healer, I don’t want to play with them. Just no.

In FFXIV I can tell someone is doing low DPS just by how their rotation sounds, I don’t need some meter to tell me they’re doing it wrong there.

But it has always been like that. Before RIO it was Ilvl, which got devalued due to TF and people started using “did you do the instance/boss” as a replacement source of information. And even before that it was “come to SM/Org for me to inspect your gear/talents before you step into my instance”. This is something that has been present in WoW since vanilla it only changed it shape over time.

Like I said above, we have always had some way of judging someone be it xp, achievements or gear. If we didn’t have RIO players would find something else to judge you if you are “worthy”. Also once RIO/score becomes meaningless at some point (like everything else) the goal post will just move again to IlvL+Spec+Rio+The New thing.

Not in the current game environment. For example if someone has been pushing a key to get it to a certain level, giving that random player a chance is just a big risk to devalue your time leveling up said key. Or in PuG raids where most times 1 wipe means half of the group leaving. Sadly the game and the community have grown to such a state that the room for mistakes is minimal and people are no longer willing to take risks with random players. That is not because of addons, that is because of Blizzard and to an extend the community.

The addons which are doing it are fine. But for this specific 0.001% situation where it is used for at for example the jailer, i do agree it is quite bad. Marking exactly where to stand is not possible by the way with addons (anymore).

I agree with you, and I also agree the community needs to adopt a new approach to each other but thats easier said than done.

My friend started the game a few days ago brand new to WoW and went into a levelling dungeon, The tank decided to skip most of the dungeon and go straight to the last boss, my friend being new to the game and dungeon accidently pulled, the tank spewed profanities (which I will not repeat here) and left the group, The consequence of this has been my friend has not been on since and is now even more reluctant to try levelling anymore.

This community needs A LOT of work.

I know there are good eggs out there but the bad ones stand out the most, case in point Elahri.

Go ahead, get a +20 key or even just a +15 and just invite the first people that apply to the key. Don’t check their spec, covenant or experience. Just invite the first people that apply to the key. See how well that goes.

Not trying to excuse the person, but I just want to point out that people tend to be more forgiving towards new players. Sadly the game is not good with communicating that information on it’s own. As far as I know the only way to see if someone is new is if you opt in to the mentorship system and then new players get displayed with a murloc icon overhead (also I have been a part of that system since it got released and only recently I realized that new players get marked).

I didnt even know this system existed if I’m honest with you but it’s good to hear Blizz are taking steps to help make a better community, to the point I’m interested in hearing what this social contract entails…

When i was new i made the suggestion on the forums too about marking new players as new, and or mark myself as new. Never understood why it is not visible. I also didn’t play since vanilla so i still haven’t done all the old dungeons. And when i want to try a new role/spec i hope nobody expects an expert.

Nobody really cares if you’ve done them or not, in my experience. The few times I’ve seen someone get kicked in classic dungeons is when people have been trolling or they’ve not understood how to jump down in BRD without pulling like half the instance even after being told how to do it so they just continuously wipe the group.

Well, i got kicked out of 4 of my first 5 dungeons.

Eh tbh it needs a lot of work. It’s essentially a private chat where only new/returning players get opted into and the “mentors”. From my experience I have not seen that chat active, like ever, while Punyelf’s experience is completely different than mine to the point she needed to change the color of the chat in order to keep track of it. Imo it’s not a particularly helpful system and I made a tread suggesting that this feature be extended to queues where new players get paired up with mentors who would teach them how to run said instances. Also in that tread I learned that new players don’t really know that they are put in that special chat and what it’s for (visibility is next to nothing).
