It is Time to Ban WoW Addons

If they were to suddenly ban addons in general then I for one would quit 100%. Just because of raiders using DBM or whatever doesn’t mean the rest of us should have QoL addons ripped from us, such as Immersion which is the only way I can even read quest text as a visually impaired person.

Don’t speak for everyone there mate. Manually downloading and installing addons takes about ten-fifteen minutes of time once in a while, not a big hassle.

I am not going to name every addon I have I just highlighted a few. The point not everyone would welcome development time being spent on the things that all addons do. It is unrealistic to expect Blizzard to do all the things addons do.

How would anyone improve their dps or even know if they are doing a good job if they can’t use addons like Details. It’s impractical to have to combat log constantly to compare what you are doing.

Why do you care if someone uses a puzzle helper addon, especially when Blizzard themselves let you bypass that with Pocopoc who can autocomplete them. If Blizzard’s UI is so bad that you can’t see if a missions going to be a success why do you care that some have a way of seeing the chance of success?

It would make the game horrible to lose all our addons.

Again, imo, because of addons, Blizzard has no movitation to improve its default UI.

The combat info tab has always existed in default UI. But they are extremely awful and inefficient and remains the same for years.

And the existence of 3rd party damage meter remove Blizzard’s incentive improve its own.

My point is that, “it is time to improve wow default functions and ban alls addons.”

The ui in all of their games could be done better but they haven’t. Why do you think they would make it better in wow?

From what I gathered watching that interview, the issue isn’t with all addons. It’s only the more recent ones that basically do everything for you and remove any challenge or thought process.
I’m pretty sure they will just figure a way of blocking those addons from accessing a particular portion of the coding or block the ones that do. Blizz have never come across as anti-addons

Bad idea, good thing it will never happen.

Im up for blizzard to make the best addons baked into the game and then ban external ones!!!

AFAIK they -are- improving the default UI in Dragonflight, right? So there is one little issue being dealt with.

Players are spoilt for choice and the backlash wont be pretty and some addons are viewed as utility and then there others that are more sketchy, which I refer to, as borderline botting addons.

Borderline “botting” addons should be banned and I am quit surprised Blizzard have not taken action against these ones yet. One being the ZM Puzzle addon. But then I believe they wont take action against the addon purely because they allow Weak Auras, which in itself is such a powerful tool that you can simply create a WA to solve the puzzle for you anyway. So banning the one means you will have to ban the other.

I am one of those players that want to get away from addons and run the game as light as possible but a utility addon such as Elvui is not easily replaced. I certainly cant wait to see how they have improved the UI in 10.0 as this means I might finally get away from Elvui. But then Elvui also has a lot of other nice features built into so the chances are I may end going back to it.

This is my opinion on this issue

This has to be one of the most stupid and pointless posts ever.

Why do you think addons originated in the first place and have continued to evolve ever since? If the most popular addons were suddenly banned then imo this would be a massive retrograde step: a game changer, big style.

Asmongold said it the best… In one of his many streams I cannot be bothered to find and link right now.

But when a game requires you to need Addons to keep up with the game. Its a developer issue… And of course the equall oppesite is the case as well…

But I for one. Until Blizzard improves their telegraphing and mechanics to a point my eyes wont melt and need glasses to see whats happening on the screen… I’ll be in favor of Addons. As far as PVE is concerned.

It is one of the most important and legit issues in wow today.

Really? It’s a bit late in the day after 18 years to ‘suddenly’ become important? Without certain addons the game becomes really slow and difficult to play and far less enjoyable.

How is item level compared to gearscore? In-game quest tracking compared to QuestHelper?

Integerated functions will only works faster and smoother than 3rd party addon, not slower.

And we only need to open battle.net to update the game itself, instead of openning curse/twitch/overwolf/wowup or whatever to watch their drama and ads.

They don’t add enough stuff though. Checking stacks of frenzy is troublesome without addons. Checking your buff durations is troublesome as well.

Healing is troublesome without addons as well.

I agree.

That is why I said Blizzard shall improve the default functions in game, instead of giving up and just addons doing its job.

So you honestly think the game devs will present a choice of integrated functions which will match the huge pick-and-mix variety of addons available to players to create their own tailor-made interface, ui, keybindings, macros etc.?

That’s why it’s a pointless post imo.

No they just need to fix our telagraphing… We cant have all our mobs clustered into one melting pot. And countless AOE and mechanics happening at the same spot. and still say we wont need addons to even notice this crap happening before we all die.

They’re not going to add enough, ever.
