Dude! Did you just miss the part where I said that there is nothing inherently wrong with the command itself?!
I doubt it because firstly, people using pencils use them all the time, like a carpenter marking cuts of wood would use a pencil hundreds of times a day. A psycho isnât stabbing people hundreds of times a day, especially when the pencil breaks after a single stab. Anyway, this argument about pencils is a bit silly either way.
What would you suggest?
I would suggest a low tolerance policy against all accounts who engage in such practices that basically facilitate automation.
As long as it becomes more troublesome for them to keep getting new accounts over the profits they make from multiboxing, the practice will die out.
So I would go after the one who uses the tool instead of the tool. Going after the tool is only a reasonable idea when the intended use of the tool is close to what a bad guy uses the tool for (for example the guns are intended for shooting at people, so it is more reasonable to be really strict about who has them)
No sir, i just think otherwise. Thereâs something inherently wrong with that command. It is an automation with very rare uses and causes damage to all of our gameplay experience. ie. I have to farm 1 more hour to buy a boe item because of multiboxersâ abuse of that command. And their rmt purposes we all know. etc etcâŚ
It is an automation. If my char can move thousands of yards while i am afk, why my char cant pick a herb while i am afk? Why Blizzard guys state automations are bannable while they are offering the main one.
I completely support this⌠The only use for follow is being lazy anyway, most usecases are perfectly fine with just autowalking.
Sounds like a lot of work for blizz staff to study each case individually, plus people arenât always going to report. Banning the /follow command would make it a lot easier to control multiboxing and would have very little, or zero, negative impact on the game.
If there is too much work for just the Blizz stuff to do then they need to do what the Australians eventually did to finish the Emu war, Crowd source the elimination of the target instead of trying to deal with it with the government forces. Put a bounty on them!
Dude, you are just trying to sabotage the topic
For your flawed pencil logic: Yes you can stab people with pencil, and still it is not illegal. Because there ARE many other things you can stab people outside. If there is no other option to stab people (/follow), pencil must be bannable. Think about pencils and jails. And think about why it is forbidden inside. Got it?
To delete /follow command sounds me with very little sacrifice, very big gain for all of us.
Expressing a disagreement is sabotaging the topic?
I hate multiboxers but I hate even more measures that have collateral damage. We still have to jump through hoops to talk with the other faction because of decisions with collateral damage
Me: enters a Mythic Key with a friend, and am not the expert on routes but friend is
Me: cannot /follow my friend because Blizzard removed it for a smaller group of people who abuse it
Me: loses track of people because I get lost in many things ever since I was a child, get stuck among unpulled packs and die, and lag behind
Others who want to remove quality-of-life because of âabuseâ: âRemove auto-walk!â
Just the last week Iâve seen people use /follow several times while we were leveling, farming Avowed rep and doing world quest runs. You see people use it pretty frequently honestly. Not to mention that itâs a huge tool for anybody that has a handicap.
Removing /follow because you donât use it would be like advocating to remove lfr because I donât personally know anyone that ran them in bfa.
And the people who abuse it negatively affect the game for everyone. I mean if youâre with a friend, you could always try typing to them, âslow downâ or âcome back and show me the wayâ. Iâm sure they wouldnât mind. Surely better than making every single other player in the game suffer.
Not even remotely comparable.
Itâs a quality of life thing and it doesnât need to go anywhere, itâs perfectly useful when playing with a group or doing other things. On Classic last week, I /followed someone when we died doing the same quest so I could go make some lunch (We died a long way awayâŚ)
Yeah, the multiboxers use /follow. If you see multiboxers, report them. That doesnât mean you should take away the use for other people. Iâd understand if the command allowed you to do more - say, if someone on /follow ran over a corpse and picked up the loot just like that. Because then you would just be a bot. But /follow⌠makes you follow someone, thatâs it. A multiboxer would still need to click on every herb or desposit or corpse if all they had to work with was /follow.
Sorry for the off-topic but this part is VERY sketchy. It goes against every credible labâs protocol. Everything should be written with a pen the first time, so that results canât be tampered with during or after. Write everything exactly as it happens, when it happens, calculations and data included. Itâs pretty much rule number 1 and breaking it would get most people fired from any accredited lab. Just write everything in pen and if you make spelling errors or something, draw one line over the mistake and write the correction nearby.
If someone notices youâre using a pencil, the entire lab log and data usually has to be excluded because it technically cannot be trusted anymore with 100% certainty. Even the most trusted employee canât get away with just promising they didnât edit anything.
Anyway, you guys go on. Just wanted to point it out because I became genuinely concerned for a bit, lol.
I use it at every expansion launch to make a big yak train of yaks why would you remove it cos of cheaters, just keep banning the cheaters if they commonly use follow all the time they can easily track players on usage and investigate those that over use it to verify if they are multi boxing or not.
The one true usage of /follow
So that i can follow people around who has brutosaur in Oribos and not worry about the ah closing.
Why not just remove the AH or restrict items moved to 1 item/minute, because that surely would hurt the big, bad predatory multiboxers too, right???
Also why do we have all those bag slots just waiting on the devs to enable the shady Vulpera Druids? Remove when all, players only needs their 16/20 slots backpack anyway!!! Right?!!!
Just for context. This lab work is about finding the family of invertebrates and counting them
It is already hard enough to properly spell some of those family names and there is always the chance that I will find more of that family on another vial from the same sampling site. So the pencil is the easiest way to do so without making the record sheet look like a mess which would mean there would be a need to re-write on a new clean record sheet/table.
We always keep the bugs from the identification and counting stored in alcohol indefinitely so if anyone wants to check if we do the work right, they can always do a recounting. Sometimes they even check the rubbish bins to make sure nothing important is thrown away along with the sediment.
I will however pass on your concern though to the others so we can discuss it. But I do think that anyone insane enough to want to falsify the numbers of the bugs found (with how easily it can be traced back to them), they can still do so with a pen on a brand new record sheet.
PS: We do use however only pens on the recording of things that cannot be verified later like physicochemical measurements, fish sizes etc, for the reasons that you already explained
