While I agree with you that there must be something more to the story, I disagree with your statement that action taken = you had to do something wrong. You can get autobanned from mass reports just for writing in Battleground chat which AV graveyards should be prioritized.
I dont care if the reports are justified or not, but fact is that fishing bot places are valiance keep AND some spots in grizzly hills.
I dont say that you dont manually do it but people are trigger happy and just report without second thought unless you are a level 19 or 29 pvp twink with a fishing hat.
Fishing can be addictive, long ago I spent 4 solid weeks fishing the floating wreckage in Tanaris, I had two bank alts with bags full of everything from the mithril bound chests and held the AH market for alchemy fish and cloth bolts making a massive amount of gold that comfortably saw me into TBC and epic flying as soon as I hit 70.
I was also reported for botting as fishing for that length of time can leave one braindead and not very social, why reply to whispers from nobodies when it could make me miss a cast? My account was investigated and they found nothing because I wasn’t botting in any way shape or form, just no lifeing to the max
I dont deny the existence of fishing bots, I know they exist and encountered some myself but I can definitely say without a doubt that once you get into a zone with fishing it’s hard to get back out of it. A good movie, good music something to smoke or drink and hours can fly by without you knowing. The instant returns from the AH are also a great incentive to keep going.
I also spent quite a bit of time skilling fishing and getting my hands on all sorts of trunks during vanilla but nowhere near to 7 hours or something.
I´m also quite curious how one watches a movie or whatever while he is fishing. You still have to pay attention to the fishing bobber, if you wait too long, your fish will be gone.
Not for a second to imply that I 100% buy everything about OP’s story at face value, but the fact that people are arbitrarily trying to police the exact amount of time that someone may or may not spend fishing in a 20 year old RPG is an absolutely fantastic meme.
Let’s keep pretending that mass-reporting hasn’t been a demonstrably viable way to get someone unjustly actioned since WoD.
Have you ever done Achievement gold in the fountain and company? You fish hours and hours and hours in Dalaran fountain.
I did also fish for turtle mount - long hours on phone, fishing and talking to customers You can play working, but no dungeons, no BGs no real questing. But fishing you can do.
And is a places in Northrend where you can fish as low level. I love fishing and do always
