Latency, odd routing inside of Telia

I play from South Africa and I’m used to 160 ms (shock and horror aside), however as of last week Monday my network graphing tools have picked up some very strange behavior in terms of network routing in the telia network. It appears now for some reason the Akamai CDN’s are picking up routing traffic and adding in some instances over 200MS extra latetncy to the path.

Here is an MTR to show:

Please advise as this showing bad latency fluctuations in game.

This is what I am seeing from Finland with MTR. Getting a noticeable jump as well.

But uhm, can I ask why you post it on the WoW forum?

It looks like Telia throws their traffic through Akamai (can be DDOS protection or whatever, quite known for high-MS), well nothing Blizzard can help you with.

If I just MTR/Trace the IPs as given in the support section of WoW-troubleshooting Akamai isn’t even in the list and neither is the weird hiccup.

I’d say contact Telia.

Because Telia carriers a lot of traffic to/for blizzard -

blizzard-ic-316506-ffm-b1-dot-c-dot-telia-dot-net

And if telia is a primary carrier for blizzard then its for blizzard to determine if there is some odd routing within the network and not their end users.

Further to this, my ISP does not choose who the traffic routes through that is purely based on all the routing topology at HE.
