Someone was suggesting that its possibly a ddos attack and now hackers are posting those pictures /shrug

They’ve gone deep by the look of it, cutscenes from Shadowlands they’ve posted. That 100% not on beta or anywhere else to see yet.

I thought devs kept them encrypted until their time of show, so they’ve bypassed encryption? either way it’s all bad and another reason to tick off trade chat.

One of the Elvui developers in the Elvui Discord took a guess and said that maybe someone found a way to abuse map pins because those are hyperlinks containing a texture

It’s flabbergasting how they managed to get something dedicated dataminers never even managed to access once.

It’s just a bug that enables people to load textures from the game files into chat messages.

There’s not much “hacking” involved. We’ll probably see more and more of that stuff when more people figure it out, until it will eventually get fixed. While I see that this can get pretty annoying I don’t see any way how this could be abused in any way that would harm players (apart from the annoyance).

I filed a bug report and guess this will be fixed soon.

Edit: This is not caused by addons. As far as I can tell the reason that some see links and some see images is probably just due to the chat frame size being to small to display the image.

sigh this took me way too long to crack up x.x

mean, eventually i did print the map of Shattrath in a random channel
but there were so many things that needed to be fixed up…
and it turns out the map pins are not responsible (directly) for ^

then er we need to find where the icons actually are - use http://wow.tools ie, and mind that .png might need some resizing if they work at all (the game displays the default green texture)

Nazjatar unplayable, lots of players complaining about it. Legion Suramar, unplayable, starting area Draenor unplayable. Old AV, what a joke, unplayable… When is this crap finally going to be fixed?
