Same issue with M2Max ![]()
Guys I found a fix (WotLK Classic, I don’t do retail)
Go to your “World of Warcraft/classic” folder and right click on World of Warcraft Classic (application). Now click on “Get Info”. A small window should open, see picture/link attached.
Check the box “Scale to fit below built-in camera” and close the window.
Now you can open WoW either by BattleNet launcher or directly. You WILL get the same error message BUT - at least on my machine - I’m able to see and change the graphics settings ingame as I used to and I do not need an external monitor anymore.
The only negative point is that your right and left side of the window will have a little bit larger bars due to the new display resolution. I’m still experimenting a bit, but if anyone of y’all have any suggestion to reduce the black right and left window bars after disabling the notch, please let me know.
To be honest, I don’t think I change the graphic settings a lot after I found the right one for my machine. So I’ll just life with smaller bars and not being able to change the settings while the notch is active.

Hope it helps for those who don’t have any external monitor

that worked for me for the moment! thanks for sharing
Sadly, this does not work for me. I changed the tick for both Wotlk and Classic. By the way, Classic WoW has no problems. It only happens in Wotlk Classic.
Is there no word from Blizzard on this? I can’t load addons I can’t see quests on the main map. It’s ridiculous.
Yeah, this error is still occurring, using Apple M1 Max (macbook pro 2021)
i can ignore the error and play but then i can’t change any graphics settings within the game

Still experiencing this same exact issue after the latest game patch, on a M1 MacBook Pro.
Theres little harm to it, since it does not harm gameplay, but still you get to see this error dialog every time you log in the game / change characters, quite annoying.
Thanks! It works for me

Try fix by Pyka
Hello everyone,
This is a known issue and is under investigation on our end. While there’s no ETA, there’s few solutions available such as :
- manually changing the game settings (editing the config.wtf or using ingame commands)
- using an external display (while maintaining power in clamshell mode)
Something else that might work is launching the game in windowed mode. For that please click the cogwheel next to the play button > game settings > WotLK Classic > check “additional command line arguments” > put -windowed. If it works but the UI is shifted down, you can type this command /console NotchedDisplayMode 0 (might need a /reload as well).
Please fix please
Keeping the topic alive. Did we get a fix yet?
Is there any estimate when this might get fixed? Is there any other information required for blizzard to fix it?
A fix would be very welcome, there roundabout ways to make it work so-so, but it’s really annoying!
Neither of the ‘might work’ solutions seem to function. The only way this works for me at the moment is clamshell - would love a solution that doesn’t require an external monitor or using config.wtf for graphics options.
Using windowed mode or forcing the game to run under the notch only arent accepted solutions for me. Looking forward to the real fix ![]()
I wanted to play on my new Macbook Air, and the same problem appeared. I’m a bit disappointed, because I saw videos on YouTube, that someone plays WoW on this type of computer. @Daernayc when can we expect the solution for this problem?
What is the status of a possible solution? I don’t accept this topic to be closed.
