Play arcane/frost then and you will barey have to cast, running around spamming arcane barrage, low mana cost and you get a good heal as well. Clever use of blink and displacement will also bamboozle the average player, thus you have good mobility too.

for some nice PvP builds. There is variety to what you can do, you can either go for a more sustain or burst.
While unlikely you’ll do as well as a rank 1 mage right away if you give it a shot and use your cooldowns well you’ll see you can win the majority of your fights as a mage.
and even if combine a warrior+healer or a mage+healer
the warrior still wins
warriors has x2 charges and deathknight´s deathgrip
that beat basically a mage´s movement abilities now even if blink+displacement pretty much
mages has being powercreeped out of the game
also try to search the term for “powercreep” since thats the word and term mage mains in pvp is a victum for
i have played a arcane/frost spec
even with that i feel like i have to use basically ALL my resources to maybe get a kill
meanwhile i see a hunter kill people within a GCD basically 0 mana used, low cooldowns stuff
and i see Shamans 1v4 people in battlegrounds while for every 10 horde +5 of them is shamans in battleground
the gap between how underpowered mages is and how overpowered shamans/hunters is insane huge so even if you at the best player
you basically lose to a bot controlled hunter: legit happen with Xaryu even in a stream
and no paladins is not as broken as a shaman and i know shaman mains often say that
i have dueled some and they are far more beatable as a mage than a shaman
Mages definitely aren’t weak, they were second to SL Locks in Classic, except now they have an entire wishlist of new abilities.
They have the same problem everyone else has, getting killed in 2 globals.
I reckon if they were able to tune PvP Damage and Healing down again, and rebalance some runes on a few classes we could see the more slow paced PvP we were used to, and Mages would be able to shine because they would have more time to counterplay and set the pace of the fight.
the PVP damage also need to be tuned for PVP mana usage for mages specific
becuase of the damage per mana ratio is getting so awful and we getting oom before doing like 20%
why this PVP aura thing they did was a so bad way and nerfed mages even more compare to any other
and before this PVP aura mages was still awful but now they just unplayable in pvp
not just that But also a talent like ice barrier has not being tweaked at all in SOD while Spriest shadowform has
and like 1-2 ticks from a Spriest Dot just removes our ice barrier and has not taken account for the higher dmg we has in SOD
and that is meant to be our final frost talent and meant to be “good” and a good def. ability but really is not becuase of we gotten powercreeped
basically same case for mana shield aswell and fire/Frost ward: i know we have a rune for it but i am talking about the base amount of damage they can take
the rune help but also doing so i have to get rid of a choose of 2 other pvp things that mages really need in pvp
Well you’re not wrong, theres only a few classes that actually need to manage their resources still, I don’t like that we’ve moved away from that gameplay and everyone has infinite mana.
They would have to consider how to balance this as well.
PvP is looking quite grim, as theres so many issues to consider to improve its enjoyment.
I reckon not dying instantly would be a good start, while they look at what classes are falling behind and why.

its 1 of the main reasons why mages is so awful in pvp
also all but mages can do like +50%(non crit) of a mage´s HP within a GCD with really low cooldown with basically 0 mana usage
while we mages has to use present of mind (3min CD) or arcane surge(2min CD and kill our mana) to do the same
if the mage dont have a healer on them or a heal rune
i count a Spriest´s Dot as also kill a mage within a GCD too just slowly but it still only took 1 GCD to put that dot on the mage
abit too often all it take for a Spriest to basically win is put shadow word: pain on me and if 0 heal rune and after the dot is done and if 0 heals there has being times where i just died from that and no other dmg and in the open world/BG i have spammed stamina on my gear
even as a CC/healer mage built its awful
healer mage is the worst healer in pvp : if the chrono heal getting intterupted: nice im a even more sitting duck than i already was for some seconds
while other healer if they get interrupted theirs heal they still can do other abilities but mages just cant
our CCs barely dont matter becuase we just die within a GCD anyway
kinda too often if im arcane specced i use POM poly to try to run away instead of what i normally do in Era /TBC/wotlk/cata: take the fight
and if even more nerf to the pvp damage in SOD to stop this burst meta
Mages getting even more nerfed than the classes they are trying to stop having this burst meta becuase of the damage per mana usage ratio
they really need to look at each class on this aura instead of just do a pure flat out aura for all this aura dont effect all equality
You have to play around the fact that warriors have a minimum range to use charge/intercept. Come on it’s not hard to delete a warrior as a mage… if you are struggling with warriors I can see why you think mages are the worst class.
in anything but SOD i see warriors as free of a kill as a mob within my AOE griding mob farm
but in SOD they are alot harder to deal with
i will however say it is still the only class im able to beat but 100% have to play smart
and i will say thats a good thing
now i wish i could say the same for other classes against mages
a hunter who having like 1 braincell while eating glue and trying to make the bot working
can beat 1 of the best PVPer in the world as a mage
thats just not okay
its fine classes has weakness against other classes
but not like where its this big of a gap
and not like Mages is weak against everyone but maybe equal on warriors
feel like warriors can handle to be against more classes than mages right now
maybe warriors is bad against mages but feel like they still can nuke other classes and more class than mages
while mages is mainly just warrior if they play smart and use a good chunk of theirs resources
There are plenty of problems in PvP atm but knowing you face an uphill battle can make victory all that more satisfying. Hopefully we will get a balance patch focused on PvP that brings in line the outliers.
One of the reasons I posted in this thread was that I keep seeing in PvP countless mages trying to cast frostfire bolt hoping for mega damage and safety in staying at max range… that’s just asking to get dunked by hunters/jumped and melted by melee.
I’m having fun on my mage, it’s clearly not as strong as in other iterations of WoW but playing the underdog and coming on top is it’s own reward.
my main dmg spell is properly arcane barrage
and rank1 frostbolt(mainly for the quickest 0 cd slow) and maybe arcane missile if far enough away (if a melee) and the proc
i know the feeling of playing a low tier class/character & etc.
im myself one who plays fighting games(+smash bros) too
so that feeling for this is extra there basically
but mages if compare to like smash bros tier list Feels like we are like smash Brawl ganondorf but nerfed(objectively the worst character+version of the char. in the series)
while Shamans/Hunters+most classes feel like im against smash Brawl Metanight but buffed
(brawl Metaknight was so broken in major tourments at the time in top 64 +50% of the players was using metaknight and was the character that was the closest to be banned in tourment play)
and that kind of balancing we mages facing basically and how big of a gab between Mages and the best pvp class right now in SOD: Shaman/Hunters
It’s odd seeing a class with arguably the best control and mobility in the game complain about PvP. But i do agree that it’s hard to be a cloth class with hunter nukes and rogue brainless backstab spam.

if they kill us before the CC even go off
or we got nothing that really do much damage while they are CC-ed and they just instant kill us after the CC is done
