Meme Roof is for Dorks

Do people unironically do this when you only need 1 other person to roleplay? Sure, having active spots and cool, though practically you can even roleplay alone. That is less fun than with atleast one other person sadly though.

Absolutely can not take any people like that seriously. If anyone whispered me that my TRP is bad (which never happened, ever) I would answer them with some memey answer since that is about the level of what they do.

Yeah, unironically. There’s one or two people (who I won’t name) that frequent the roof and complain about how there’s no RP or how RP is soooo bad these days. They’re easily identifiable by the passive-aggressive TRP currentlys.

I make a point of telling them that there’s plenty of RP and that RP hasn’t exactly got ‘worse’ over the last X years and that if they want RP they’re welcome to go out and make it, nobody’s stopping them, but apparently it’s more convenient to put people on ignore and carry on complaining. :upside_down_face:

edit: changed ‘used to frequent’ to ‘frequent’

Sometimes people don’t want to be proved wrong in their misgivings. They just want to tear down everyone else around them; if they’re angry and negative, that’s the atmosphere they’re going to create.

It’s weird, given the effort put into that kind of approach which could easily be used to get into / create a lot of RP.

Honestly probably why they don’t get into /create a lot of RP lol…

Yeah absolutely. There’s rarely much self-reflection going on.

This is a sentiment I agree with really, about the state of roleplay overall on the server. The way it’s done has certainly changed over the years, but I wouldn’t say it’s dropped in neither quality or abundance though. yeah, we got more OOC players/trolls, but we also got more RPers and get a bit more every day.

We also have alot more lore and items to work with and people in general learn diffrent ideas and styles to further make it enjoyable for themselves & others.

I do also think that, especially among those who’ve been on the server for some time now, life outside the game have changed, anything from having families of their own, work, studies etc. And this can perhaps make it seem like the RP is less/more diffrent because they’re not the same person anymore who back then could perhaps RP 18 hours straight, compared to the 3-4 hours now.

Pretty much spot on. I guess it could often be an anger about changing trends on the server. The anger @ alleged Game of Thrones RPers really kicked into overdrive, when really it was just another trend. We’re always going to be inspired by popular media, GoT was just the biggest thing on the block at that time.

I would say there’s been a drop in RP volume but not RP concentration. By that I mean you still roughly the same proportion of RPers in Stormwind as you do in [the north], but the overall numbers have diminished over time in line with subscription numbers. As you say, most people have moved on in life and don’t have as much time to play.

It’s exasperated a little by differing mentalities when it comes down to RP, one of which being (and I know you don’t agree w/ this Vixi) the “I don’t have to spend my subbed time RPing with X”. People are definitely less likely to continue RPing with people from different circles these days compared to 4-5 years ago.

That sounds like the most stereotypical boomer behavior I have ever seen online. Complaining but not doing anything about it. Yikes.

There is also the option to create a guild and only roleplay with people they “deem worthy”. Though I suppose that is too much effort, which brings me to “ok boomer”.

Oh yeah this is true. Out of things that have changed in the server in general(Though by no means gone completly as it still happens) is the approach to roleplaying with people outside of the group a person finds themselves in at the time. Be it either more reserved, less activly seeking it out, or just not at all.

An aging playerbase also means that people have invested years into the server, often on a single character. After so much time, it’s easy to become irate when it feels like they no longer have a place in the community or that things aren’t the same anymore (whether this is actually true or not is another matter).

Nuke meme roof

I still see people flinging the “ugh GoT rpers” around, when it really feels like that trend is super dead nowadays

Think it just became synonymous for low magic human rp tbh

Yeah I get that, but that style of RP doesn’t even feel common anymore. At least in the spaces I RP, and those spaces were pretty well known for that trend

What style is GoT style ?

What does this include

Maybe on the inside its different, but from the outside i still get the GoT rper vibe rlly often

If “GoT RP” includes:

  • households
  • not much magic
  • general reluctance to involve matters of faith
  • level 43 greens

then yeah, it probably comes across like that, but it also ignores the fact that there’s not really feuding noble houses on Alliance these days (as opposed to about 5 yrs ago).
