Thats not an orc, and thus, it is wrong.
Iâd be interested in breaking that status quo and running an open world RP event in FFXIV, but since Iâm very new to the game and know almost nothing about its lore, I donât even have an established character concept yet.
But I do want to faciliate it.
So my current idea is that my character will be some kind of IC philanthropist and sponsor of charity events for large groups of adventurers. Everything else so far is in flux while Iâm leveling and learning about the world.
What I feel is that if we want to change the RP scene for the better, the best time to act is now, while thereâs heightened interest in FFXIV from WoW RPers (and a lot of people from AD).
The time to act is always now.
Events or just social RP used to happen a lot in Fallgourd Float, Camp Bronzelake and a spot in Dravania which Iâve forgotten the name of. Itâs died out over the past few years.
Bringing it back wouldnât be impossible, just need to poke the bears.
Ideally Iâd like to run a newbie-friendly event in a location accessible to low-level players and relatively free of OOCers. Vesper Bay, for example, sounds like a good one because itâs easily accessible from Limsa and from Ulâdah (with some running). Something that would have the OOC purpose of easing starting RPers into the setting. Coming up with the right IC flavor and assembling people who could help host it is another matter, though.
Costa del Sol!
If You truly are one of the roleplayers of the early Argent Dawn then you know that the server became what it is today because people didnât do exactly that right? Circling up and hubbing together. Not so sure you want that as much as you think you do? Making Roleplay some exclusive only club, A social hiarchy etc. Doubt that will bring in more people personally.
The other MMO games, Like Guild wars 2. ESO, Swtor. Have no designated RP servers. You will need to find a community and so on to get in there.
As for WoW and Final fantasy the US servers are populated to the Brim. All hours 24/7⊠Despite the time difference. They are just that many more people.
I think he said he doesnât like it already.
He suggested it, Then that yes. Made a point, then went back with what you quoted.
All true regardless. Both the points being made.
But an orc IS an elf in TES.
I know, so are âdwarvesâ. But altmer are high elves, theyâre gross.
And even if one speaks french, unless Mer de Jade changed a lot since I left I do not recommend the GW2 french community, that harbored several harassers, doxxing, etc. (The kind one fears on AD but at the scale of a small country so easier for them to become troublesome to say it gently IRL)
I know it had a french one at a point, lot of the GW2 one emigrated to BDO. (I cannot give much details on it, I never went, but some close friends told me about the drama. Among things, the harassers of GW2 moved there and free for all PvP griefing became a problem.)
Yeah all in all that game wasnât rp friendly and i def remember some people moving there that had me think âgood riddanceâ
And then promptly never heard of BDO rP again
In the interests of not misrepresenting a whole community, I should note that I play on the NA servers. Itâs entirely possible the situation is different in EU (on Omega or the Light data centre or wherever folks RP there). This isnât so much directed at you Lintian, but I donât want people to go into FFXIV thinking that they need to change a status quo or that the current communities need to conform to what us ADers are used to.
A lot of people are likely new players and want to try RP down the line, and while Iâll continue to criticise the lack of random/organic RP, Iâve had a lot of positive experiences too. Iâm sure few people do this, but I hope folks will be willing to try it out as is and form their own opinions before deciding that they want to improve things or that itâs definitively worse than AD.
I mostly just commented to give another example on how player housing affects RP communities, because to say that it doesnât is just flat out wrong.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
Poor phrasing on my part. Iâve only been on Argent Dawn since the tail-end of Legion, and meant to say my early expeirence was nothing but bubble RP. This is why proofreading is important.
Iâve only been playing FFXIV for nine days, but the situation seems to be different on Omega. Iâm at a market night RP event at the Silver Bazaar right now, there are about two to three dozen people attending.
Open world RP? On my Omega?
Dunno how you got that past the censors.
i found that very jarring tbh after I tried rp in other games after wow.
in wow at any time of the day youâd find random rp somewhere, even if it was just standard trash tier old town roleplay.
on gw2, xiv, esoâŠhonestly any other mmo out there i then learned rp only happened at set times and set places every day. like in gw2, rp only ever happened at the bar in rata sum after 7pm. inquest rp happened on saturdays and all bar rp ceased til after.
xiv was similar though without discord communities it was harder to find still. was a lot to get used too after having it so readily available coz youâd get weird looks if you rped anywhere or anytime but the set time and places.
Those weird looks diminish after the normality shifts.
Screw weird looks, get what you want from the game.
The EU FFXIV community has a definite aversion to rping in the open world. Maybe its through being griefed in the past (there is a report button guys, use it!) or itâs just that kind of roleplayer who would rather do Second Life/Tavern RP. Ironic considering the whole setting is very open to the whole adventure/dungeon delver/monster slayer brand of roleplay, down to the fact you can get specific -in game- bounties for hunting down elusive monsters.
Even more so than WoW I think, considering the zones are not built as themeparks like with recent expansions in WoW but more as set pieces and parts of a world you can explore and use as needed.
It really does baffle me why a particular brand of roleplay is pedestalled to the detriment of others, when some of the big voices in that community have openly asked âwhy isnât there more of x/y/z rp?â I mean, people are going to be put off advertising something that doesnât fit the accepted brand.
At least on the US servers there is more of that AD-esque culture of random roleplay happening in the big cities and even just out in the wild.
