Can’t believe Nathanos wasn’t nice towards people who were overtly racist towards him.
I never said his attitude wasn’t unfounded. But of course, there’s reacting to racism and then becoming a jerk about it.
There’s not really much evidence of him being a ‘jerk’ in his life – he was probably prickly with the elves due to their treatment of him, but otherwise we see that his nephew looks up to him (and wanted to avenge his death).
Maybe getting dunked on by the elves turned Nathanos into the cantankerous jerkweed he became after death. Undeath brings out the negative feelings in people after all. My dude could have just been an introvert who didn’t like all the fancy shmancy elven stuff in life.

Tbf I probably wouldn’t much like the dude that gets promoted to the same station as me despite everyone objecting, while sleeping about with my boss lol
who also never visits the place the Rangers were created to defend, thus forcing said boss to make the trek down to give him orders

Mail does exist on Azeroth. But tbh even I would probably get worn down eventually and just go home if I was just constantly pooped on by everyone else and told the only reason I got where I am because I happen to be doing the dirty with someone.
Who just so happens to be their boss that also promoted you to your present position. Sure, Elves are aloof and racist but let’s not pretend that’s the only reason they had to dislike Nathanos
I liked it better when he got to his position without that being related to anything to do with his little love story with Sylvanas but it is what it is
I didn’t say the elves had no reason. I’d probably also be kinda miffed about the whole thing myself if I was in the situation. But I can also see why Nathanos would just bugger off home.

I think the takeaway is that Nathanos genuinely had the skills to match the likes of Halduron and their response was definitely based on elven racism – but also yeah, Sylvanas promoting her bf would probably cause a scandal too
We don’t know their full relationship history but I’m guessing they weren’t dating before he became a Ranger, so chances are he did get in on skill alone, and then he started bangin’ the boss.
And then also continued to be really pro at his job at the same time.
My guess would be that he got into the Farstriders off his own skill, then became involved with Sylvanas, then became Ranger-Lord. But that’s not really based on much because there’s not much to base it on – and even still, rumours could still have been flying given how Sylvanas was championing him irrespective of whether they were actually bumping uglies yet

It being a rumour circulating without anything really being confirmed or getting close to confirmed was much better imo, but then I’m really not a fan of the love story they kind of just put in there with BFA
Him being skilled and getting promoted based on that and then rumours start circulating is cooler imo than him bumping uglies and then oh, look, promotion
I actually like their “romance” and think it’s quite compelling tbh

My man was able to take on multiple champions of Azeroth on his own before he got his butt clapped by a juiced up Tyrande. We can all agree that in terms of personality Nathanos ain’t up there. But the fellow can more than hold his own in a fight.
given that his plan was to die while being snarky, the superior power move is to quietly minecraft in your home while everyone spends massive resources scouring for you.
