After a long time i finally reinstalled retail wow to play. After installation and all the updates I pushed play but were welcomed by a black screen and the worst freeze lag. The screen went back to windows and showed the message: kernel mode nvidia driver stopped working.
After a few seconds I got blue-screen and my computer resets. I tried to go trough alot of threads about this topics with tips:
- Reinstall drivers.
- Turn off Vertical sync.
- Turn of visuall enchantments in Windows.
- Use the best performance options in Nvidia in power options.
Nothing seems to work. I can still play other games like: Doom, RDR2 and classic wow. So I can’t figure this one out.
I had this. Doom Eternal needed the most up to date NVidia driver so I installed it.
I went back to wow, then noticed in quick order a lot of frame dropping and eventually it crashed.
Tried re-launching and it flickers and freezes, leading to a BSOD.
I reinstalled the previous NVidia driver and wow worked. Doom doesnt like the older one so when I want to play it I need to reinstall the updated driver.
Its a PITA.
I tried this but still the same problem. What Nvidia driver version do you use for retail wow?
We’ve seen a notable spike of rather serious crash issues (across multiple games, not just WoW) being reported with the 445.75 version of the Nvidia drivers. Apparently the later hotfixed version 445.78 is faring somewhat better in this regard, and there are also some reports that disabling “image sharpening” mode in the Nvidia control panel helps with this issue - might be worth a shot here.
Alternatively reverting to an older version of the driver after purging the currently installed one with a tool like DDU may indeed be called for here.
I’m using 376.33 driver for wow and Doom Eternal wants the 442.74.
The former has 0 issues with wow and I still play it. Doom however does not launch with it.
