Personally I get more done when working from home (less distractions), and I also put in a few extra hours as I don’t have to travel. I prefer working from the office, as I can mentally “shut off” my brain when I leave. But when I’m working from home, it takes some hours before I stop working in my mind. For good or bad, companies can use this. I feel like working from home 1-2 days a great balance.
Forgot about this. Statements like “They need to do what is best for the company because if they don’t there won’t be a company for the employee to work at in the end.” are empty and meaningless. There is evidence to the contrary that working remotely is more productive and results in happier employees.
Then you spiral off into more bad faith arguing, “Should they have to go down to 6 hours per workday as well while still paying the same amount per month because employees want more free time?”. Not what is being discussed here.
And people on your side of this argument always go on about “reality”. Number of times I get accused of not being in the real world. I’m a freelance senior IT consultant and developer. Trust me, I very much live in the real world thankyou and I don’t value your projection.
…and that is your choice. I am in favour of work from home, but it isn’t for everyone. Things like WeWork spaces or reduced, distributed offices may be a thing of the future for people in your position.
However the other side of the argument want to order everyone back to the office without choice but behaving like white knights backing up fundamentally flawed business decisions. As I said, Blizzard have worked for years to repair their workplace problems, recruit more people to have an operational team once more (I suspect that, and it is just conjecture, that the sheer scale of cutbacks prior to Shadowlands was far more responsible for its issues than anything to do with lockdown, although the company’s lack of preparedness and adaptability to remote working may have also been an issue). This is just going to drive people away and (possibly willfully) reduce their headcount. Again, sounds like some MBA making decisions about resource like Field Marshal Haig pushing around figures on the world war I battlefield with no true comprehension of the lives being disposed of.
No it’s just math. If you reduce work hours from 8 to 6 it is a 25% reduction in work hours.
But no one is talking about that. This 6 hour thing is all in your head.
He asked me where i got the numbers from so i informed him…
Also why are you wearing half BfA gear and half DF gear? Very confused…
then dont put alot of strain on the infrastructure and find a job nearby your living area or move closer to it like i said. Thats a you problem for finding a job that far away.
Thats like having a cat and then whining about cat hair being everywhere. You made the choice to get the job wich was far away. Its not the companies responsibility to decrease your travel time
I work in a specialised area. Quality Management within SAP. At any given time it is unlikely there is a job within my country, let alone locality.
But keep coming out with that crap.
Companies also have a responsibility for the wellbeing of their staff, and remote working is one of them. You know, good employers don’t just extract concessions from their staff just because they can and just to feel they’re getting their money’s worth in suffering. Your view of the world is so, so outdated.
Timewalking.
And as for your response to my previous post.
My post was about this comment:
“At the end of the day we want people to be happy, and if decisions about about being happy don’t align with where we’re going, and you won’t be happy, then you’ll have to do what will make [you] happy.”
This doesn’t sound like a boss I want to work with
If people dont enjoy their job they should probably look for another job.
Expecting a company to bend to every workers needs are not reasonable.
I brought up reduction in working hours as another example instead of the WFH.
Because there are similar arguments for both and both are trying to find a balance that works for both the company and the employee.
And unlike many companies blizzard are trying to meet half-way but people want 100% WFH.
Blizzard clearly see a need to have a few days in the office.
They have a lot of teams that need to work together and manage.
After they have gotten every thing in order again the policy can be re-evaluated.
They see a need for people being in the office but aren’t entitled to it. There’s still no justification.
And just to pick up your point, there is significant research that shows that shorter working days/weeks is better for productivity too and definitely better for lifestyle. Or should corporations call all the shots in the world and anyone who dares argue anything other is being “entitled” or “unreasonable”.
Or is it just a case of the one with the cash gets everything they want? Because things are far more nuanced, and is a prime example of why people need to organise and unionise to be in a negotiating position to withhold their labour if the other party is being unreasonable or negotiating in bad faith.
And also, how hard is timewalking where you need a different set of gear to do it? I did a dungeon the other day in my DF gear, everything melted in seconds. Just a waste of bag space.
This new policy will not hurt only WoW but also innocents!
And I am sure there has been plenty of challenges having everyone work from home.
There are pros and cons with both WFH and on-site.
I am well aware of the research of both shorter work days and working from home and how it can benefit productivity. But it depends on the type of work.
I support it even where it makes sense.
Of course not.
And I can hardly see how blizzard have been unreasonable with this new policy.
They worked at the office before, a pandemic forced everyone to work from home.
Now things are returning to normal so it is time to return to the office as well.
But they are still having two days a week where you can work from home.
They also have exceptions to working in the office for those who need it.
Had they said that its now 100% at the office I would be pissed too.
But it’s not, its just that people want to work 100% from home.
They worked from the office before but now all of a sudden people act like its inhumane.
It’s not hard at all. I just like to play with things that otherwise are not available.
Especially since it give a huge cooldown reduction to my two primary dps cooldowns.
I’m speeding through everything which helps shave of time when you are farming for the mount.
even if they could magically teleport to work this is still the same dev team that gave you several failures and was proud of it even df is a meh expansion it’s not terrible or good it’s just average at best
I really don’t understand how exactly it’s your business if they work from home or not. Maybe use think before you post.
df is way way above average tho. Probably even better than legion where 2 months in it already had awful problems.
Legion at least was fun this is just straight up boring if your not a sweaty tryhard i’ve had more fun watching paint dry
“fun” is a very subjective thing and from my point of view you’re spewing nonsense.
Also, if it’s so boring what are you doing on the forums? Unsib, uninstall and get lost.
Because it’s very fun to not be able to play any of your other 2 specs because all your artefact power was dumped into the main one. Because it’s SO FUN to beg the rng gods to get a random legendary that is not useless and you could actually perform in content.
Oh how very fun. I hope you realise how delusional you are.
