New WoW Cinematic dropped a few hours ago... Thoughts?

I mean, all of that is fair enough, but you can’t expect that to be everyone else’s experience as well.

Before I got to play I really wanted to play a tauren. I loved them in WC3. But like hell was I going to be some magic dust sprinkling hippie caster. The dwarf hunter was cool yes; when I saw the pet bear I was like: I WANT A PET!

Then I got into early beta… Tauren were so ugly and didn’t have the early rumoured ‘plainsrunning’, so I didn’t want to play one. Me and my friends had all agreed early on to go horde, so my choices were limited. Trolls? Hell no; way too ugly. Undead: Hell no; way too ugly. So I settled on an Orc.

Basically; the illusion of that trailer was shattered; none of it actually looked like that ingame. At all.
That was my experience.

Thing is he claimed it never happened.

I am actual proof it did, thats all i was putting acrosd.

Fair enough.

We should all just speak of our own experiences.

Hurricane himself said, the cinematic felt a bit off, especially the logo being just a blend in than the usual transition in cinematics.

Here’s what he said in detail: https://i.imgur.com/B9544yb.png

Hurricane in fact does make the official cinematics for Classic and the recent one for TWW based on Blizzards preferences.

They work together, it is not a solo-thing from Hurricanes side.

He mentioned that they got a lot of feedback during the revisions.

Aside of that, Hurricane is becoming more and more a workaholic with his team, give them a break. It’s reaching unhealthy levels from my perspective.

See it more like me saying that I can’t imagine it happening.

Kinda stolen from SWTOR :stuck_out_tongue:
Looks like a mix of SWTOR KOTET/KOFE (Knights of the Eternal Throne) and (Knights of the Fallen Empire).
My thoughts.

So glad to still be rid of the overrated, one-dimensional Arthas, edgelord wet dream Illidan and overused and dull Sylvanas, at least for another expansion.

Trailer was definitely missing some voiceover. Echoes of Azeroth was substantially better in the hype regard. Interesting to see them obviously going a new direction, though (and the Harronir scenes as always look incredible!)

Can’t wait for it to be called “woke garbage” just because some dislike it (and of course, anything those dumbdumbs dislike is automatically woke yet if it was a one-eyed, one-armed white guy he’d be called “grizzled” and “badass” looking). The WoW of old is gone, let’s see what the future holds.

I think they made a mistake an showed us the diablo cinematic

Hmm is been more than 24h and cinematic only have like 500k wiews thats like really low for fact i saw it like 3-4 times. Seems like there is no hype for expansion at all.

Because the olympic opening ceremony has much more rewatch value.

I am sure the hype will resume soon enough.

I like how dark the theme is, much better than Dragonflight.

As for…

Not sure what you issue is here, maybe it’s women or disabilities or both, all she done was get dressed.

My issue with that is, that it’s depicted unrealistically.

Let me explain.

First logic flaw

In the shots we see the shoulder armor being put on, leather straps pulled and locked in. On the front side, that makes sense.

But who tightens the straps on her back? Because those are definitely there, otherwise the entire armor makes no sense whatsoever in design itself.

Second logic flaw

The Chest plate is put above her head, perfectly symmetrical in the downwards motion. But beforehand and afterwards, we see no one help her.

She has one arm, it is physically impossible to even put a T-Shirt on that easily alone, with one arm, without help.

So why should a plate armor that weighs at least 5-10kg be easier to pull on?

Third Logic Flaw

What is a Squire? Google says:

“The word ‘squire’ comes from the French word ‘escuyer’ meaning ‘shield-carrier’. The young squire learnt about how to be a knight by going with his master to war, carrying his shield, putting on his armour before the battle, looking after his horses .”

Faerin Lothar (the Paladin we speak of) is a Lamplighter, which definitely appears to be some sort of Knight order. Given she has her own custom armor, it is likely that she has a high-ranking status within her order, means therefore she is a Knight or higher.

She has no Squire, yet is depicted unrealistically in a way to be able to put on her armor alone, with one arm which is a major disability and while being blind on one side of her face which is another major disability.

It’s honestly worrying that Blizzard depicts a disabled character in a way that is anything but being realistically disabled, downplaying the actual handicap and how the struggles are in real life.

Almost like they put only half a minute effort into thinking this through. And all of those issues could have been solved by have 2 Knights with deep shadow below their helmets arm her.

Because people serving YOU, is STILL the biggest display of power. Because it recognizes Authority!

What comes next, a Dracthyr in a wheelchair? Oh… Wait… We already have that.

https://i.imgur.com/dK3DyB5.png

Think about for a second. A Dracthyr, a literal genetically created super soldier dragon race has one of them sit in a wheelchair, a prosthesis device for people unable to walk! That’s like having a person without arms being called a professional climber.

You can’t fight without legs to stand on! That’s just simple physics and combat knowledge.

Next Blizzard is going to tell me Pizza is best served cold and Ice Cream should always be hot!

EDIT: Fourth Logic Flaw

When she puts on her coat, it just flaps down her back. But what about the cloak joints on front of her chest piece? You can’t fix those on easily with just one hand.

If you put it on first on the disabled side, you have difficulty putting on on the not-disabled side.

So, logically you put it on first on the not-disabled side, then pull the cloak pin up from below your disabled arm, over the shoulder and lock that part in its pin socket. Which then would result in your cloak not flapping downwards symmetrically, but actually being pulled up without a flap, asymmetrically.

So, this is another logic error, not in display, but animation.

Art quality amaxing as always but definitely quite disjointed in terms of storytelling. I get the idea of showcasing the new races/factions and all that but the dance? sequence could’ve been shorter and more time given to something else.

Right… because black disabled women don’t exist.
You must not know many disabled people if you think they’d prefer to get help for dressing themselves every time, rather than the ability to do it themselves.

The cinematic is no different than something they showed the other month, just a bit longer. The Anduin and Thrall cinematic seems to be the actual trailer, this is just a hype vid and I love the animation of the Earthern.

I have to deal with disabled people regularly in my job. I know exactly what struggles they have, from being unable to walk up to needing help with finding the money to pay due to blindness.

If you don’t believe me, do the self-experiment. Take a belt, strap your left or right arm to your back and try to do any of the tasks I mentioned.

You WILL have struggles. And you WILL understand that getting helped is easier and not shameful.

By displaying having help as shameful, help shown is turned into a shameful thing itself. And the most empathy driven thing a Human can do is helping another human/creature that is struggling.

And again, we are speaking of heavy armor plates. Not simple clothes in our modern day society.

Have you ever worn something as simple as chainmail? Do you know how heavy that alone is?

Here, read it for yourself:

How much does chainmail weigh? A short-sleeved shirt of chainmail typically weighs around 8kg/18pound . A long-sleeved shirt reaching to the mid-tights or further is called a hauberk. Hauberks like that can weigh 12 kg/27pound.

It isn’t displaying help as shameful. Independence is a dream for most disabled people. She lives in a world of magic and fantasy, being able to put your own bloody armour on is pretty low-key. Although I note she doesn’t necessarily do it all herself, it’s all quite choppy and seemingly for dramatic effect. Of all the things to take up issue with, this is not one I hoped to see.

As I said before:

As I linked in the main topic, NOTHING about the scene from LotR with King Theoden getting his armor put on by his second-in command(?) is shameful nor without dramatic effect.

Blizzards trailer tries to look “cool and epic”.

Yet the LotR scene is more epic, not just because of the dialogue, but because the care the Knight puts into arming his King is a display of trust, loyalty and care for his safety. Every plate put on, every leather strap pulled tight is not just a re-affirmation of their duty and service, but also making sure the King doesn’t die on the battlefield. It carries responsibility. It carries devotion.

Meanwhile in Blizzards trailer we get a 2-3 seconds shot of Faerin Lothar, standing before armed soldiers to display her “Authority”. A rather emotionless authority with emotionless loyalty from her soldiers.

Imagine for a moment the scene of LotR would have served as inspiration instead.

2 armed Knights put on the armor for their Lady, Faerin Lothar, Leader(?) of the Lampposts of Hallowfall. They make sure the armor sits tight and well, so their Lady doesn’t die in Battle, doesn’t suffer deep injuries nor bruises.

What carries more loyalty and Authority for a Leader? The Leader being depicted as a “lone wolf - aka - I can do everything myself, who needs others anyways” independent person? Or a Leader displayed as being admired by loyal Soldiers for her Leadership, by displaying the care they put into serving her?

I honestly don’t know anything about her beyond she is clearly some sort of half-elf arathi paladin.

Honestly, that response made me think of that “I know more than you” meme.

No offense.

It’s WoW!

Unrealistic has been the name of the game since the beginning.
Or are you implying a walking corpse flinging fireballs is realistic?
And that’s just one example of many.
