Night elf heritage questline

I think we’ve got our fair share of undead night elves through death knights and dark rangers.

If you start trying to make every race/class combo have some sort of meaning to the races, then I think you’ll end up in a big mess. Blizzard won’t just make lore for the available classes to night elves - they’ll attempt to do it for all races and the important question is - why? Why bother if they weren’t that important in the first place and will they actually make a difference anyway? I just don’t think they will.

Night Elf Death Knights have NEVER made any impacts on the Death Knight story. Why? Because, quite simply - they aren’t important. Orcs, Humans and Forsaken are the races that Blizzard pushes when it comes to Ebon Blade / Death Knight story. I’m fine with that, personally. I don’t think we need more races since the aforementioned 3 do the job fine.

I agree, putting the NE heritage quest in 10.2.5 or something (So it could refer to the raid’s results, whatever they turn out to be) would have been way more logical, and allowed for a more interesting questline…

It’s also probably why they didn’t, because they knew they would be dealing with the whole thing here and in the future too.

It wouldn’t be necessary as the quests would already be doing that.

They needed to do something that could encapsulate the night elves.

confirming yet again totally one sided development catering to 70% of mains (horde) while ignoring alliance. horde bias strikes again

Yeah, that’s fair.
I understand why they would want everyone to experience this stuff and not just night elf players.

Yes, although night elves seem to be one of the few races tied into Elune and the Emerald Dream (and the Well of Eternity), we shouldn’t forget that these do not belong to them, and they are global. They were just first on the scene with the arcane, nature and Elune. FIrst to the world tree, first to Elune too, and first to arcane magic. Their arcane magic side is however not at the forefront of the player stage, as by the time night elves were introduced, and written as the first to study and master this, the main race, humans were off course using this when the game launches in WC1.

However Elune and the Emerald dream, as well as the Well of Eternity and the burning legion all came later and with the night elves, so it’s far easier to identify the night elves with them. They also didn’t strongly add any races to Elune worship or to the Emerald dream - probably because they mainly associated those things with Night elves, and felt doing so would promote night elves an alliance race, increasing the alliances popularity which is one thing they were working hard against for TBC up to Legion - which is why we saw such a huge horde bias up till that expansion.

It took till 8.1 to see the first time in game, that the alliance goes head to head against the horde in game, and comes out looking both the better side and having had the better half, even though they don’t succeed in their objective.

Reminded me of the Ashenvale quests in Cata, where ultimately the night elves win, but it doens’t look that way at all when you quest through at the horde, as you really roflstomp them. You have to then play through as an alliance toon, and notice you follow in wake of the horde hero, barely managing to undo a lot of his destruction, so while you win, it’s clear you’re not the better side here.

The Ashenvale quests are terrible, by the time we start pushing the Horde back (Sort of, they’re still all out there), somebody yells “Ehrmagerd! bomb!” and we’re rushed off to Stonetalon to watch that druid school get blown up.

I don’t like yelling “Horde bias!” (That comes unconfortably close to blaming the players, not the writers), but it’s undeniable in Cataclysm content.

It would have killed some time while Maiev decided to actually move on though!

I think each time she stopped, she read that entire post before moving again

I would just confirm that they dominate the Elune scene, the Well of Eternity scene and the Emerald Dream/World tree scene. We just haven’t seen much of the former two. Only the latter two, but the books and wc3 story have the Well of Eternity at the centre, and Elune has always been there.

We are now seeing a lot more of Elune in the night elves, which is good, I’d love to see Elune worshippers amongst the Worgen, Void elves (after seeing the Night warrior power), and maybe the Highmountain Tauren druid sect as we know the Mulgore Tauren are an An’she thing. Also it should be all the Nightborne too.

Horde Playerbase Also A Part of the Kaldorei
The Night elves are too big and important to be restricted to one faction, it nerfs the scope of the race, but also halves the potential playerbase reach for a group that originally appealed to both factions before their inclusion into one faction. So I think this is very important to involve the horde in the night elves here too, sot hat night elf stories continue to touch the entire night elf community on both factions. Which is also why they need to hurry up and expand the Arcan’dor lore and introduce Nightborne druids, especially balance druids, and expand that spec’s lore with Nightborne coming into it through the Valewalkers which is the major storyline for them. It was never good that Night elf stories be perceived as “alliance” lore when in WC3 they were not fixed to those factions but their own. but since wow has two player factions having them in both can help bring more stories.

More Cool Part of Night Elves to Show
They also haven’t shown us how incredible the Well of Eternity can be or the good things the night elves did or can do with it. I’d like to see that at some point to. it’s in the books but not the game. Suramar is an example but it’s shown a dangerous and corrupting power with a night elven society in a state similar to when the legion first invaded.

What we want is to see what they were like before Azshara got so reckless and addiction and arrogance seeped it, when it was truly at it’s best. We also haven’t seen them use that power to help themselves either which the y need for sure, so it would be nice to see a chapter for the Shen’dralar’s new Highborne caste to develop some wonders and the Moonguard kick some ***.

It is fitting this should be shown through the night elves too, so players know this side of the night elves has not been replaced by the arrival of the nightborne, likewise it is important the Nightborne take time to show a bit more of the Priesthood of Elune signifying how the priesthood operates in a kaldorei civilization and the balance druids to, which the Nightborne learn, to emphasise their kaldorei identity and roots, so they’re not just perceived as night elven looking blood elves, as actually nightborne , their own kaldorei race with their Elune version and druid version, which is their emphasis.

The difference between the two is emphasis. For the night elves, you will see Well of Eternity arcane wonder, not corruption, and how the Highborne have been restored to the true nobility they originally were in a kaldorei city. For the Nightborne you see temple priest version of the Order of Elune i.e. more casters(where the night elves show fighters and hunters), and on the druid side a balance druid emphasis and lore (where the night elves we’ve seen a lot more resto and guardian/feral. Off course the Nightborne still have arcane magic and civilization, and the night elves still have caster priests and balance druids… it’s just that the portrayal of these things or a side of these things is split that way between them.

TLDR Visualisation Targets
it’s done this way to nail down the Nightborne identity, so horde players do feel part of the night elf world through the nightborne and will feel all those night elf books relate to them, for the Illidari stories, we already see the blood elves directly involved, so they can already feel apart of this.

It is also done to to show the majestic side of the kaldorei in the playable night elves themselves, so that while the main focus is hard faced sentinels and druids, you do have this wondrous side still alive , the majestic side from which we saw places like Suramar emerge. It will also help players connect the night elves themselves strongly with high elves, blood elves and nightborne as seeing it with night elven models shows you this is where this aspect of the elves comes from. Its important this is seen in game and not read in texts. you have to have more for night elves than old ruins and devastated forests. They have to have some really nice things. It doesn’t need to be an empire or sprawling civilization, but they need something.

Fixing the Disconnect
Currently there is too much of a disconnect between night elves and other elves that was never intended, with the feeling that they just have nothing in common with the others, rather than have gone past the others being the originals who kept their integrity amidst all the changes forced to make. so it is very important you clearly see the arcane elf in the night elf, and the caster temple priest in them, even if the majority showings are sentinels, demon hunters and druids.

Yes indeed, may we never see that again. They used the night elves like dung. To pump up the horde back in those days. Make Garrosh look super powerful. What they didn’t realise, is that it didn’t have the effect, because only strategy players had ever seen the night elves as decent.

Night elves haven’t been shown as the titanic race Wc3 and WotA Trilogy presented them. They had come across as flimsy and weak in wow, which we were all disgusted by. they just dind’t want any alliance races looking good because they feared players will go pick the alliance instead.

This was the entire reason for ruining the lore of those races. Mainly night elves, but dwarves too and why Draenei have never felt anywhere as remarkable or powerful as blood elves despite their written lore putting them on par at the very least and likely a more powerful group to have. you just don’t get that feeling about them in wow. If they had been horde back then, it would have been different.

Fortunately, I think that things have changed now.

They can still rework the questline with 10.2 and have every Nightelf that already completed it to be able to replay it once.

Let’s not forget about the irony on druid legendary and focus on druid specs / talents planned for this druid themed patch irony off

Unless they replace the voice actor for Farodin, I don’t see this happening anytime soon. Unless, they remove him altogether. They could force the Night Elves out of Shal’Aran…but still, I reckon Farodin would play a role in that scenario as well. Arcan’dor story revolves heavily around Farodin and unless they replace his VA, I just can’t see him coming back to the story, ever.

His VA died in 2017, which is probably why he was axed from the nightborne story, afterwards.

I don’t see how new Blood Elf customisation will impact on the story, to be honest? Besides, by comparison of Night Elves and Nightborne, Blood Elves deserve some more customisation.

I do hope they get facial runic tattoos, like the male blood elf on the TBC box art.

You mean the three ugly hair colors? Yeah, reason for much envy, I can totally see that.

Yeh, I agree, but then I realised they just don’t go down that route for heritage questlines.

Which is a shame, the lack of race specific stories is chronic, and people are thirsty, yo’ud have wanted some epic adventure for this, but alsas, sadly you do not.

Yes, top of my list for blood elves is a Farstrider look, complete with Alleria like tattoos, or maybe have those for void leves and have rommath type for blood elves

Because blood elves do have this wood elf element and love of trees via the Farstriders and i think it would be really really cool.

In contrast, night elves could definitely use that Avatar of elune glwoing stars throughout their tattoo shapes or the empowered one we saw tyrande had when she was avatar of Elune briefly and off course the ngiht warrior based ones, which basically add a silver glowy outline to your body tattoos then add glowing stars to a purple -cosmos type glow.

Void elves are needing some void customisations like a void eyes, a 3rd eye, natural back tentacles and their Alleria tattoos.

I was thinking more like a mage-arcane runic tattoos, like the box art.

Not so much war-paint like Alleria.

For me, runic tattoos are a blood elf-only thing and it suits the higher ranked Magisters of Silvermoon.
Much like the new purple faded hair for Blood Elves, it will be great to see more Mage-based features coming, especially since the new Trade-Post Mage gear is made with Blood Elves in mind.
“Blood Elf Mage” is a very iconic and old favourite, race/class combo and it is nice when Blizzard does give sets based on races. Much like the next Shaman set is based around the Zandalari.

I wouldn’t say “no” to all things for Farstriders and Magisters though. You shouldn’t be saying “well void elves have this so blood elves can have that” otherwise, aren’t i’m entitled to say “night elves can have more druid stuff so nightborne should have more highborne/arcane stuff.”
Blood Elves and Night Elves should have all things associated with their race as they are the primary races of their groups. Nightborne and Void Elves only get small slices of that cake.

Quest told you to. And she had a bubble around her that you were suppose to be in.

I do agree that I didn’t find the questline particulary interesting, but it did refer to a lot of past happenings.
