Can you source that? Because I remeber a interview where story devs(can’t remeber which one, will look it up later today) stated that the Army of the Black Moon’s (and the players) black eyes were nothing but a rule of cool addition. It did not empower those Night Elves and only Tyrande was a real Night Warrior who got empowered.
So, the Night Elves in Darkshore had no powerboost and Tyrande had no hand, whatsoever, in Darkshore. Or any other part of the Night Elves-story. Hell, she only appears to look mad at Nathanos. in the terror of Darkshore cinematic, only to leave everything before and after to either Malfurion, who threatened that Troll and slaughtered 4 other Horde members, and Maiev who is basicly the General of the Army of the Black Moon.
So was Jaina when we came across here, only difference is Jaina had been caught and escaped multiple times while Tyrande wasn’t captured.
The ending cinematic highlights such (quoted above), as well as the explanation behind the black eye customisation option given by devs themselves in this video:
The change occurs over time to any night elf fighting on behalf of Elune while under the darkened moon in Darkshore
Tyrande: Victory is ours this night!
Tyrande: Elune has given us the power to save ourselves!
She speaks in plural, and emphasises the fact that the boost affected all those involved, not only her.
As for her not having a hand, the questline involves her razing Horde settlements to the ground with said powers. Aside from the aforementioned power boost that Elune gave the NE army battling there.
you’re taking her waaay to literally, she;s not exactly going to proclaim that victory is only hers that night or that Elune only gave her the power when in reality that’s pretty much true.
The previous Night Warrior on Azeroth helped the Night Elves to establish their empire and secure Kalimdor
Thiernax saved the planet Fyzandi from an Old God that landed on their head
Khaliiq on her word kept her people - who were preyed upon and exploited - safe and became what others feared in the night
The Stonewright on her word killed and killed and killed everyone who she considered danger to her poeple to the point only she remained and had to be killed because was so dangerous (and thus landed in Revendreth wich… tells something about her)
Tyrande? Killed an already dead human hunter with a bow and two dogs… then… failed to kill another corpse. And had to be saved. Not protected nor saved her people, neither her planet… not even managed to have vengeance
Compared to the others? She is maybe the worst Night Warrior
But her and the Night Warrior arc had some purpose.
Not much but some
A tiny
But had a narrative purpose
(Tho’ it is a mistery for me why she failed to kill Sylvanas - plot armour I know - the Night Warrior power is not something you lose suddenly or tend to diminish then grow… with the Ritual, you channels Elune’s Warrior Aspect and become the avatar of the Night Warrior with all the power and thats it, you have a limited time untill someone/thing or the power kills you )
I mean… if you look at it right, if she was to have a ‘comparable achievement’ as one of the most potent Night Warrior in the list of other Night Warriors, then everyone else - including Nelf players - should just outright unsubscribe and stop playing the game there and then.
What the others have over Tyrande is that they were not pressured by current storytelling or narration. I mean, can you imagine how exhausting it would be if she won literally almost anything she ever touched or glanced at?
We already have a high plot armour npc that is hopefully going to snuff out eventually. Don’t really like the idea of replacing it with another just because Tyrande did not get to +1 her predecessors.
Seems like a tool to put Elune into the story. It was handled like a side story at best, so, that’s the quality level expected from the current narrative team.
Well, I have thought about it a bit more.
Now I’m thinking that initial NW arc was created as a bone to throw to NE fans after Teldrassil. And writers get that problem, like in some other stories, like Marvel Cinematic Universe, where some entity is described as extremely powerful (deity’s avatar in Tyrande and captain Marvel in MCU) but for some reason it cannot kill villain and stop brewing disaster because of… You know, reasons.
For now, Tyrande fits into omnipresent metanarrative in every Blizzard story that the only way to become hero is to give up borrowed power. And characters which hold it are either to meet horrible end or to become a villain. Therefore there is a chance that this is not an end of Tyrande story.
