No I don’t want an authenticator

This. I just checked It had access to Siri and Search, notifications and mobile data. Siri and Search was sending data to Apple not Blizzard.

Even then, with so little usage, they were getting very little. Now they get nowt as I removed the access permissions.

Same but with Microsoft’s authenticator.
Blizzard should be able to support the standard authenticators.

I’ve never used one, but I’m not against the idea. The thought of losing or replacing my phone has deterred me further. How do you deal with the losing or replacing your phone situation? I have no idea how they fully work in that aspect.

You make a support ticket to blizz and they remove the lost authenticator from your account after you’ve send in proof of ownership of that account in the form of a photo of a valid ID, passport, drivers license etc

The ultimate trust move

or you can remove it yourself if you remembered to write down the serial number you got the first time you installed the app.
Should be an option for it under account management

Denuvo is a middle man between the game, it’s DRM and your PC. It’s an anti-tamper solution, not really a DRM. It tries to stop pirates from removing the game’s actual DRM. This is why in some games, Denuvo has negligible performance impact, is almost unnoticeable and in others it uses a ton of resources… because it’s not denuvo that’s doing it, it’s the game’s actual DRM. Ubisoft is awful when it comes to DRM. Even if you buy their games, I highly advise cracking them (cracking a game you own is perfectly legal btw).

If a game uses, let’s say, denuvo and steam DRM only, removing denuvo won’t really result in improved performance (like it was with Hitman - it dropped denuvo, kept steam DRM and performance remained exactly the same).

I have had the Authenticator since they released it, and I got it because my acc was hacked, my chars and my guildbank was stripped back then. I never notice it, unless i log in from another pc, it is really not a bother at all.

And I am keeping on having it, not because its “forced” but because my acc has been safe ever since I got it.

On a sidenote, the whole thing is to attempt (however weak the attempt is) to combat the vast amount of boost adds in the lfg tool.

Imo they should do one of two things. Either agree that it’s against the ToS and start throwing the banhammer and monitor the game for boosters.
OR, cave in and just make a boost service tool, similar to LFG tool, where people can go and shop their service.

This “in between” is bad, you cannot almost do something against it, while almost allowing it.

it’s not rule breaking, there is nothing that force me to use my real info & I never did since i started wow at October 2005, never updated them when new battlenet came 2009 & surely blizzard see all the fake info whenever i ticket them about my account of payment & they never banned me.

but you can’t add same phone number to multi account therefore you won’t be able to add authenticator in any account without phone numbers. "right now i have only 3x phone numbers and 6x different battle net accounts so i won’t be able to add authen on 3 of my accounts, blizz removing in-game feature cus of no authen? is just retarded.

Yes it is. It’s against the terms of use to provide false information.

The problem you may end up facing, is if you get into a situation where your account is compromised, you will not be able to prove you are the account holder as you won’t have officially recognized ID with the account name on it. So they won’t return the account.

Ive had the physical authenticator for a good number of years, maybe even the year it came out. Its never been an issue, press the button get a code, type it in… Its one extra small step to logging in. I fail to see the issue to be honest.

i’m aware of that, lucky i haven’t got hacked yet & if i will? it should be fine to contact blizzard and prove that i’m the real owner for the account since i have the receipt numbers for all my orders from the shop, Plus i got tons of videos recorded while i’m playing my characters! so that should be enough!

if i lost the account & Blizzard did not help after all of that? then gz to the hacker cus blizzard are lazy to put some effort & check/investigate. But anyway it’s hard for anyone to get hacked this days! because if ANOTHER user tried to log your account? account will get locked & require secret answer to proceed, in same time you get notification via mail about that action.

Only thing to reflect on with any form of authenticator is whether you have unwittingly opened a door onto your device for unwanted promotional mail. I can see a world where by allowing a company to install an app, you permit them to interact with you whenever they like. Dunno.

I mean, I update my phone every two years because I’m on a contract that allows me to do that. However, I got the app in 2015 on a Samsung galaxy s6 and I’ve kept it on that phone until recently and only changed to my newest phone because the Samsung is kind of on its last legs (battery is giving out and can’t be replaced) all I had to do was download the app, log in and authenticate it via SMS.

I believe they can detach the app remotely via a ticket but I’m not sure how that works as I’ve never had to do it.

Exactly, and they use a lot of the same arguments on it as they do that. “It’s not fullproof, you can still get your account hacked/social engineered!” Well yeah, nothing is ever 100% but why wouldn’t someone take something that helps protect them 75-97% MORE than without.

It sure isn’t infringing on anyone’s rights requiring an authenticator, and Blizz even admitted in their post one of the reasons they’re doing it is people using hacked accounts to list ads in there.

They also don’t consider even if THEY consider themselves untouchable/healthy with their security habits that it’s also about protecting OTHERS and the more people that have it, the better it is for every ones protection in general.

Really? This has been in the EULA since the start. They only help if is obviously fake like Bruce Wayne or Micky Mouse, If you put in John Smith they won’t help you.

When you create or update an Account, you must:

  1. provide Blizzard with accurate and up to date information that is personal to you, such as, but not limited to, your name and email address.

Blizzard End User License Agreement - Legal – Blizzard Entertainment

Nope, they require proof of your name, usually a government ID, along with game keys, etc. People have talked about this in the CS section of the forums.

But okay let’s say thats a thing. Tell me what’s more efficient: having a team of people having to trace these larger chunks or having 1 person sitting and banning people instead of waiting for set amount of player reports coming in?

btw this is a surprisingly good example

don’t live in a stupid way and you won’t have a problem without a vaccine

get yourself a 2-factor and you will be in danger of well the reason why people avoid it

looks like i’m a rule breaker!!! who cares xD

and i didn’t expect them to help in the first place if something happened, this is why every single blizz game i own on a different account, and some of my wow characters are on separated account. if by any chance 1~2accounts is lost? I have all the others! so np! Paying for multi subs is not a big deal since i can still enjoy logging all my characters at once!

Have this account since October 2005.
Never got any issues.

Perhaps, because I never had much gold in it.

My laptop only has WoW. Unless Wowhead, icyveins and method sites or YouTube have decided to have spyware now …

Wanna come ?
Fine.
Serve yourself with less than 10 000 gold total.
Delete characters.
Fine.
They are all level 50 anyway.
I can ask for restore.
Lost items ?
Nothing to cry about.
No account restore ?
Fine.
I just go play my UK account and restart on my Human Warrior in Stormscale. She’s sitting in 80 000 gold.
Been waiting for an excuse to change factions anyway.

Tried to change email to merge my national account with my UK account and couldn’t.
Now I have to get an authenticator ?
Won’t work on me.
My Google account is setup to a national phone I’m not using atm.
I won’t attach the authenticator to my UK phone on my national account.
I don’t even know how long I will be here working …

I don’t use LFG tool.
So no.
Definitely not planning to get it.

Cheers.

Lol Wowhead used to be the worst for spyware
