So upon seeing that void elves are now admitted, limited in number though it may be, I naturally took it upon myself to read the opening post more thoroughly. Having done so, a question did arise.
sad void walker sound
On a more serious note, I did start to wonder where this decision left void elven spellcasters who might be interested in applying.
We know from BfA that even a mage is capable of reanimating bones with the Void, and in terms of gameplay, a shadow priest is further capable of summoning a slew of nightmarish effects. Mages and priests, notably, being accepted classes. Thematically this all seems somewhat resembling the dark arts of a warlock, even if their source of power isn’t the same.
All this to ask: Are warlocks banned on grounds of their frequent demonic ties, or them thematically being sus at the best of times? And if it is the latter, where does that leave void elven casters and their natural penchant for clandestine magic?
In short, it’s due to the Warlock’s reliance on Fel that they’re not permitted. We don’t mind other spellcasters played as OOC warlocks.
However, I think it’s fairly self-explanatory that High Elves, and to some extend Void Elves, want absoloutely nothing to do with the energies that they watched corrupt what was once their home.
Grand, that clears things up! I couldn’t tell whether the Fel or moral implications of dark magic in general was the dealbreaker IC, the latter being an inborn problem to prospective ren’dorei applicants.
Bearing in mind that sin’dorei rarely chose the Fel for themselves, I certainly concur in that regard. Theirs was generally a passive, uninformed taint by demonic magic. Their apprehension would reasonably prevail even now, in their void elven shape.
Adding to this is the fact that Umbric’s warlocks (pre-transformation) were called Void-Warlocks, heavily implying that they discarded Fel in favour of studies into shadow magic before becoming ren’dorei.

Ten days since last post?! Need to remember this exists…
Upon returning to Highvale, the Dawn found one of their own missing. Darksong, and senior ranger within the organization had vanished, seemingly without a trace. The chase of an unknown kidnapper brought them from a seemingly abandoned, old house in Elwynn, to the foreign shores of, at first, Azsuna, before finally locating their missing elf - and the entity that had taken him away, on the sea-soaked stones of Black Rook Hold.
After a particularly bitter fight, where the foe was all too eager to not allow the elves to return with their lost ranger in one piece, the Dawn prevailed - condemning the foe to a prolonged vacation in Telogrus, and bringing their - heavily injured, yet alive - elf back to be nursed to health within Highvale.
Now, they wind down for the holidays, spending Winter’s Veil between Quel’Danil, and Stormwind, and preparing for things to come in the New Year! The Dawn will, in the spirit of things, be present at the upcoming Everstill Tourney - bringing much-needed Elven flair to many of the events there,
