Unfortunately is full of people using words cluelessly.
I think maybe it’s a matter of expectations?
Like, take Shadowlands.
It had the Sylvanas versus Bolvar cinematic for its announcement. Pretty cool. Definitely the cinematic.
And then it had a cinematic close to release like this one for The War Within. Showed the races, the zones, and The jailer. People were cool with that, because it seemed like a bonus, an extra, a little side-treat if you will.
With The War Within it feels different. The cinematic for the announcement with Thrall and Anduin felt like a prelude to what is to come. So there was perhaps an expectation that the next one would deliver the fanfare that we got with Sylvanas and Bolvar. But then we got this? That was perhaps not what people were expecting.
And it should perhaps also be seen in the light that Blizzard’s hype machine has been very quiet so far. We’ve had a couple of short stories but otherwise nothing. Where’s the series of Harbringers, Warbringers, Afterlives, that we were treated to for past expansions?
There’s just nothing.
So of course the expectations get set high whenever Blizzard does come out with something.
And Blizzard don’t seem able to really deliver on those expectations. And to the fans’ defense, then those expectations are built from previous expansions and the pre-release material Blizzard created for them.
The big issue for me is the lack of narrative, context or setting the stage.
If it had that, I would’ve liked this cinematic more.
This. It feels like a highlight reel, which is not my preference. I prefer trailers that tell some kind of story, like WotLK, Legion, BFA, even Shadowlands…
true. youre right. probably this is why this last trailer was so downvoted. we were waitin for a more “proper” trailer.
Technically, it’s not a bad trailer.
When you look at it, it’s visually stunning as always.
But ever since Dragonflight I feel WoW lost something.
No, it does not feel like WoW.
I look at the Bnet splash screen and seeing Alleria and Xal’atath makes me feel I dived into some Korean MMO. I am not fond of the new direction.
It has a very ‘modern’ vibe to it.
The trailer gave me vibes of Avatar and D4 rather than WoW.
The world is changing, so is WoW. I will reserve my judgment until I play TWW, as most I’m looking forward to are new zones and music.
I am not too hyped about story, I’m disappointed with Xal’atath who looks like a teenager.
Not meant to imply you were just that I haven’t really followed the show and the only complaints I’ve personally seen are that. Sorry if I was wrong
This sums the show up pretty well

I watched it again and it feels like the production of the trailer was outsourced to some generic trailer company. It is not a Blizzard production.
I disagree with you about the streamers. There are some people who may do what you are describing but I doubt the majority would do so. I see people in this thread giving all kinds of reasons. The 2 most common are:
- 0 story elements (a disabled black woman with 0 background about who she is)
- Copy paste elements from Avatar and D4
I will explain for him and not only about the trailer. All started with Dragon flight. It introduced:
- gay and lesbians to WoW
- Half of the women in the Den of Mortal Delights in Black Temple were replaced by men. Men and women of colour were added to the harem
- Promiscuous pictures were replaced by fruit art
- Body 1& 2 replaced male and female in character creation
- TWW trailer has a military disabled black woman
This is DEI in its finest,.
There is nothing wrong to introduce a new character (Taelia Fordragon is such character). But not having any back story at all?
It tells no story whatsoever, and it’s full of DEI-tickboxing.
It’s insulting to anyone who wants a fantasy RPG that feels like its own world; and not a checklist.
If you can’t explain what is woke about the trailer without being rude, then there’s nothing more to say.
Many people, but not all people and definitely not the majority of people.
I don’t care about DF, that’s not what is being discussed.
Nothing related to the trailer, so i’m not going to discuss it, I do agree that some changes were too far, like the fruit.
Why is this woke? What’s wrong with showing someone who has suffered the conesquences of being in a world where the next world ending disaster is around the corner? Is it because it’s a person of colour? Because she has limbs missing?
Imagine that. New characters have to be introduced somewhere to keep things interesting, that’s how a story works.
Was the one from D4 in armor? Or was it more that she was black?.. if its the second (and it is) it kinda says a lot about you.
The only thing we’re discussing here is the trailer. The fact that a black woman who, gasp, in a world littered with war has battlescars and a limb missing is somehow woke still doesn’t reason with me.
No-one has yet to provide an actual answer as to why it is either beyond “DEI!! DEEEEIIIIIII!!!”
Even if you ask me more I can’t say anything different. Go search what is DEI and ESG and you will understand what is considered woke by gamers.
He asked me what can be considered as woke. So I gave an answer.
I personally don’t give two cents about that. What I want is originality in the characters(not using assets from other games) and good story telling. Nothing of that is seen in the trailer.
I think I gave an explanation about the DEI in WoW and the trailer. If that is not enough for you well to bad. That is the only answer I have.
No, i’ll see a lot of vile stuff that closet racists and right-wing people spout. You can’t even explain what is woke about the character, you’re just another mouth-piece
And before you sound off about my political alignment, I literally only care that the natural world is preserved as I would quite like future generations to be able to enjoy nature as I did and do.

“By gamers” is a joke by any metric. They’re not exactly considered the most intellectual or enlightened people on the planet, are they?
-
I’m assuming most of us know fine well what DEI and the other buzzwords people like to scream are. The fact is the majority of the time they’re used completely incorrectly. Woke literally has no meaning any more because it’s been so bastardised.
-
Here’s why no-one takes the opinions of gamers seriously: First it was gay characters. “Don’t turn existing characters gay!! That’s woke!! We don’t hate gay people just makes new ones!!” So a new character is created who just so happens to be female and black. Boom, yet another pointless uproar by whiney little runts who never matured past college.
There’s a reason that no-one takes you (general you, not specific you) seriously and has no desire to actually have a conversation about it with you. You don’t even know the meaning of the words you’re actually using - it’s literally a case of character isn’t white, male and grizzled (gasp, with scars) or female but busty and beautiful so it’s WOKE! RAGGGHHH! Videyurgamz RUINED!
It’s an absolute joke.
I know i’ve not grounds to ask, but it might be a good idea to avoid making it personal.
