well lali-bleedin-ho to you too

They fall under similar.
A lot of games are just elves and humans recently…ff14 and ESO aren’t recent.
No beast folk, no dwarfs, no zest.
Give. Me. Dwarves!

Just role a short human and put on a stereotypical vaguely Scottish accent when you play them.

Bonus points, you can use a blanket as a pretend cave for the authenticity

I am still melting and honestly at this point it’s just rude

one of my windows appears to have jammed shut in the heat

whyyyyyyyy

Don’t worry, it’s not like it isn’t still 30 degrees outside here

Found this interesting video, it’s a commentary of Warcraft 3 by someone who actually worked on it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRrFQS9hIZg

One of the interesting revelations is there was an argument over the line -
“Can the formalities, Uther. I’m not king yet. It’s good to see you.”

Because it implied fish canneries were a thing in Lordaeron. Just as Zovaal had planned to have happen in 20 years time, just as everyone intended in 1999.

Thanks! Wish I had known about this video when writing the Warcraft Retrospective.

You’ll like this even better.

There’s a whole series of these.

Is this the right link? For me it links to a 15-second short titled “The Truth about WoW Gnomes : Gnomergan in Warcraft”.

I’ve found the rest of the series, though. Shame there are no videos on the night elf campaign and TFT (that I can see, at least).

Huh. I had hoped it’d linked the whole playlist.

Even so, it’s an interesting factoid. A Gnome-less WoW would’ve looked and felt very different.

Ah, I see now. I use an extension that blocks the recommendations panel, but it turns out it causes the playlist panel to the right of a video to be blocked too.

For any firefox users who may or may not have noticed it draining a bit more of your PC lately.

Open Settings->Type ‘Sidebar’ into search->Select ‘Show sidebar’ (assuming it’s not already on)->Click the cog on the sidebar…bar->Uncheck “AI Chatbot” ()

Don’t have the bot (yet) but keeping that in mind for when it shows…
I really hope silicon valley burns in the same fire they wanna create with all this AI nonsense.

Might wanna check your about:config and search “browser.ml.chat” and turn all that off (I had one turned off why I didnt have the bot)

Well, it’s nice that they didn’t tell me this was something they’d added.

The worst thing about AI is there’s no way you can say ‘No’ because the tech giants have so much unaccountable power, information, influence, and control, and everyone in politics and finance want AI to make them wealthier, or give them an excuse to lay off more people.

As a result, humans are left in a confusing stream of information tailored to give them what they want, instead of what they need. Led by people who are likewise conceited.

On an unrelated note…an emotive rant. I’m going to stop relying on reason for a bit.

The worst thing about Covid I think is the fact that rather than use it as an opportunity to build a better, different kind of society; one where the new technologies of the digital age could remove geographical or linguistic barriers and provide reliable education for all; we’ve gone back to exactly the way we were before, while acting in great denial at the fact everyone has lost two years of their lives. I honestly think it’s the -lack- of change that’s more psychologically damaging, as there’s no closure. There’s this huge cognitive dissonance.

I genuinely think social media is, and has, been one of the most destructive forces on the human psyche, it’s instead just a nest of histrionic and manipulative stuff fanned by bot-infested comment sections filled with disingenous innuendo and unverified opinions.

And then, you throw AI into the mix. Rather than listen to every piece of Science Fiction since Frankenstein that’s said:

“Be very careful with this”

and keep AI locked away with professional research organisations and government organisations, it’s instead thrown out to the public by greedy tech corporations looking for the next best thing, and then woven into every conceivable service, career, and outlet with the eagerness of a plastics manufacturer.

Instead of using AI like in Star Wars, as in - self contained robots who do boring jobs like administration or serving drinks, we’ve instead given it access to the entire internet, essentially making it God if it should ever achieve sentience, and using it to replace the things that are most Human - creativity and imagination.

you can tell that AI is a useless bubble because if any of it was any good it wouldn’t be free
