Pet peeves: The return (Part 2)

I just had violent flashbacks and I was grinding for Captain in BFA

After a bit of a fight with Todd, Ikit was just sat there… confused.

Blizzard’s inability to retain and improve ideas between expansions is genuinely impressive. It feels like since late Wrath, all they’ve been able to do is replace originally decent ideas with progressively worse versions of themselves.

Artifact power was flawed but was tolerable by 7.2, which was… Like, six months into the expansion or so. It had a strong feeling of progression and increasing player power, particularly after catching up on it became quite easy.

Azerite had virtually no feeling of progression bar working your way up to a set of uninteresting traits for your magic helmet or the next tiny stat increase for the level up.

Renown somehow has even less to the point I had no idea what I’d unlock, and half the time it was something I would never use.

The issue is, and has been, ever since Ion took the lead, that he and by proxy the rest of the dev team do not respect their customers time.

It’s intentional. They don’t want to make a great game, they want to reach the perfect balance tradeoff of a game that is as bad as possible (cheap to make, high grind required, etc) without losing too many subs.

It’s an entirely different mindset and it’s very visible in all their design decisions. Like 9.1.5, they knew all this had been asked for for a long time but they only do it now because they can’t get away with doing nothing anymore. And they are doing their best to give us as little as possible.

The contrast with companies who have actual passion for their game couldn’t be more pronounced.

did he win

Parasitic systems you can’t dump at the end of an expansion is easier than making features that will last well after the expansion they were introduced in.

The (sad) funny thing about this method, is that even with parasitic systems, Blizzard is pretty terrible at them. AP was fixed two patches later, Azerite took so much toll on them they had to make essences… Then stupidly throw Corruptions that completely undid the progress they previously accomplished and now we’ve got Covenants the worst iteration of all these previous issues. It’s so bad that we’re only getting one patch per year which is outrageous for an MMO.

They waste incredible amount of dev time just fixing the parasitic system no one wanted that the rest of the content we normally expect is suffering.

This is a big part of why I think this game doesn’t have much of a future, yeah. I hope I am wrong but it is not my impression that anyone making the decisions at Blizzard actually cares that much anymore.

I question the sanity and financial understanding of people who buy the six months offer.

In Legion I would have understood this move. After all a patch every 77 days was reasonable, but buying 6 months in Shadowlands is purely demented.

ah but have you considered “free” store mount you’ll use maybe once and then never again?

Not to mention all of the classes I enjoyed playing in Legion have felt like lesser versions of their Legion iterations with some garbage tacked on such as Covenant abilities which was even worse in BfA before Essences because frost lost a lot of stuff that kept it flowing nicely but in return I got to…

Chuck knives which did great damage until that inevitably got nerfed.

I have done absolutely no mount farming in FFXIV because a friend gifted me a mount when I started out that I love so much I am never going to ride anything else.

It’s a liberating feeling.

The best mount in FF14 is your chocobro
the second best mount is anything else

I am so neutered when it comes to mounts. Recolors everywhere, rarity equals who can waste the most time in game watching a map until they’re bored to death or how fast you can pull your credit card.

Where are mount that demanded meaningful work? Oh right, we left them in TBC and MoP.

I enjoy Midgardsomr actually doing something useful for me rather than just sitting around and occasionally saying ominous stuff :V

There was that time he convinced the big H, and that time he saved you from big O.

What bardings do you guys use and what color is your chocobo?

White, with Titania barding for me. Before I could afford that I used Shiva barding.

I really like the Wild Rose barding. It’s a reference to something, apparently, but I don’t mind since it just looks good.

Last time I logged out I think I was using white chocobo with the bozja barding, since I was playing a lot of machinist at the time.
