Pet peeves: The return (Part 2)

Yeah but unlike some other trolls, which name I won’t mention because it hold power to summon them, he wasn’t either immediatly obvious (still stank tho), he wasn’t funny or was he entertaining to bash like a certain caravan thread.

When bored, forum regulars are wont to poke things with sticks for any kind of reaction.

c’mon, do something. [poke]

People barely bat eyelids at the submarines which have them. You know, military vehicles designed to sink.

I’m hoping the plan for the mini Rolls Royce reactors to be dotted around the country gets the big thumbs up to be honest.

I’ve said it before in here but the Green Movement was played like a fiddle by fossil fuel companies. They blurred the lines between the nuclear disarmament movement and energy.

They crapped the bed in the 60s/70s and we’re paying for it now. Dumb af hippies.

I am not at all worried that XIV will start implementing NFTs. I don’t think YoshiP is dumb enough to do it, you’d need to build the game from the ground up to include a blockchain somewhere, and FFXIV is sold on Steam which has banned all games with NFTs and cryptocurrency.

A large part of SE is bad, of that I have no doubt. It’s a successful, competitive company in a system where being a greedy inhuman ghoul is what is rewarded. It goes without saying, really. But XIV in particular I don’t feel worried about just yet.

Reminder that ‘Carbon Footprint’ is a big gorramn red herring. It was first used by an energy company. And now its become common parlance to lambast the little people with “Why aren’t YOU doing YOUR bit?” instead of, y’know, holding multi-billion pound corporations accountable…

to be honest even if a nuclear power plant did go kaboom in the UK i’m not sure if it’d damage or enrich the land there . . .

it’s not like a five legged deer would stand out in the land of the bri’ish

Either we get power needs met or England finally ends up in the bottom of the ocean where it belongs

win/win

The only one I didn’t play.

My main XIII play through has over 100 hours.
I just wanted to clear the c’eith stones on the Steppe.

Or nationalising them and decomissioning an unsustainable industry kept in a state of undeath by artificial means and bribery.

I’m stunned that this person hasn’t been put in the timeout box yet since people get silenced for much, much less.

until you realize that

  1. you need to supply the materials for the said solar panels in the current world situation where material scarcities are a growing problem due to fragmented value chains and pandemics and other global disasters. They are also all but carbon-friendly materials to gather.
  2. you have to build a whole infrastucture to gather, store and distribute electricity from hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of buildings, and it has to be compatible with the old systems too. This doesn’t even account for the amount of technological know-how and talent you need to pull this off on a nation-wide-scale and
  3. Even if we assume that they run optimally as much as is possible every year, you’re still going to have downtime due to the simple fact that sun doesn’t shine every day all the time, and you create hiccups in the system when demand is high vs when it isn’t.
  4. Recycling of all the battery + solar panel materials is very problematic, hazardous and labour-intensive.

Instead of, you know, just building a 4th generation nuclear power plant.

The central europeans completely screwed over the Europe by shutting down their nuclear power plants in panic due to what happened in Fukushima and because gas + green lobbyists bribed all the politicians in charge. And now, here you are, dependent on natural gas from Russia.

Starts licking the window

We need to figure out an alternative that doesn’t turn half a country into mad max with winds and waves making a planetwide contaminating sweep just because societal disruption or natual disaster meant the damn thing overheated from lack of maintenance, though.

Serah had a bowblade which is arguably less silly than Lightning’s gunblade

It’s okay Nomura is just remaking Versus XIII in Kingdom Hearts

Yeah, like, that’s my main takeaway from it; the technology I don’t have any issues with, on paper.

I just don’t trust human nature as far as my noodly arms could throw most people. Having a thing that could cause that much damage by some utter nitwit going “Smash the system!” or “Muh profits” or literally just being lazy? Big yikes.

Wait you don’t want this?

I want to be strapped to a wall of amps on top of a spiked death trap shredding on a guitar through the deserts of England.

Everyone always thinks they’d be the Guitar Guy.

Rather than the Bloodbag strapped to the front fender.

Everything is broken and horrible and the status quo is rooted in laziness and ignorance and inertia and greed and scaremongering and I feel powerless to make a positive difference, even if I were part of a movement.

Sure, I bring reusable bags to stores instead of buying plastic bags, and collect wastepaper, so I can at least feel slightly better about myself while power plants all over the world are pumping craptons of CO2 into the atmosphere like we’re still in the 19th century.

I feel guilty for just going on with my life and trying to distract myself from these thoughts, while also realizing that even if I didn’t, and burned myself up entirely for environmental causes, I would have made an infinitesimal difference at best, and arrgh I don’t know what to do

Bingo.

Most US plants should have been replaced ages ago but haven’t because of laziness, incompetence and cost-cutting by shady business and one failing in that unstable joke country wipes out so much that it’s not even remotely bitterly funny.

It’d be a case study for the rest of the world if the fallout, figurative and literal, wasn’t global. So much of it is a ticking time bomb with natural disasters looming even if things stabilise politically, several states years overdue for earthquakes or even that supervolcano.

Countermeasures? Do you trust them not to bungle it? I really don’t. The next time something happens it’ll be a news article for a month, the disaster zone will be walled off and down the memory hole it goes, consequences downplayed and we get another fukushima boar sanctuary.

You’re looking at it the wrong way. Southern europe (spain) gets desertified while the bri*ish isles become Waterworld.

Or the feral children.

It sucks, doesn’t it? I have to distract myself because otherwise I’d probably be so mired in despair I couldn’t do anything… And yet distracting myself only makes me feel guilty too. :frowning:
