Pet peeves: The return (Part 8)

This is the long game punishment for mocking their ‘don’t you have phones’ jab all those years ago.

I had a whole hour’s sleep and gotta build my new bed today

elden ring progress update:

fire giant is defeated on attempt 2

i have reached the haligtree and my claymore is now level 25 ready to do some real damage. my mimic is level 10. i have also switched from my trusty brass shield to the golden greatshield which is the same but bigger. finally, my drip has been upgraded to include the banished armour chestpiece that has the cool cape/poncho

i am as ready as i will ever be to face malenia with all of this and being at level 136

Fire alarm went off a 2:44AM for precisely zero reason since there was indeed no fire, smoke, or anything else, but oh boy did that screw with my sleeping this morning.

Relatable, except for me it was my kids waking up which they don’t usually do in the night.

Cursed day ahead.

There is roadwork from 6pm to 6am clearly we need to close down 12 bus stops a whole day before (:

this is very intimidating. the snowfield area was a sudden jump in difficulty and i suspect this is going to be more so

whoever had the idea to have the entrance to the haligtree be stalked by invisible assassins and magic archers was evil

edit: just noticed there’s a little roundboy tooting his horn proudly in the bottom of the screenshot

There are a few problematic parts with nasty enemy placement, more in city proper, but overall the haligtree should be fine at your level. The mega aids optional part at the very bottom floor of the city can go eat acid though.

Unless there are enemies that use death blight I am confident.

EDIT: I don’t know if this is true for all souls likes but I kind of hate the false difficulty of just taking a boss that is hard and making you fight two of them at the same time.

Two tree sentinels. Two tree guardians. Two night cavalry. Two burial watchdogs (worst thing ever)

Very lame.

This is a specific problem of elden ring and ds2 (and my major gripe). Other games too have paired bosses or boss with adds, but typically those are rare and are made in sensible way.

For example ornstein and smough from ds1 are an example of a good pair fight, because O is fast and sometimes throws ranged attacks, while S is slow and struggles to catch up, therefore you kinda get that you are suppose to kill O first.

Another example is demon prince in ds3, which again is a 2 boss fight, but while you fight one boss, the other takes a more passive approach and just throws crap at you from a distance sometimes and only swipes if you get too close.

I think you are in good/much company in that assessment heh.

Yeah, Ordina can just… Do One. Do not like, do not pass go, do not collect 200 runes. The Albinaurics fall firmly into the category of “Look, I know you have a tragic backstory, but why are you making that MY problem? You’re putting YOURSELF on the dead list, here!!”

Thankfully, I actually find Haligtree 99% better than the stuff in Snowfields, Ordina included. There’s certainly things that do hit like a truck, but they’re all familiar units now.

The two watchdogs in particular were an absolute nightmare when they were both spamming their ground slam abilities which I already find difficult enough to dodge as is given how hard it is to keep them in view when they’re directly above you.

Awful stuff.

I did a catacomb in the snowfield where they had watchdogs as just regular enemies in there and it was incredibly obnoxious.

I didn’t fully explore the snowfields because tbqh I didn’t like traversing it and I’m burnt out and kind of just want to reach the end now.

As far as I know, I’ve just got the haligtree left to explore and then some other area after I go to the giants forge.

The Watchdog duo are made infinitely easier if you keep some of the crystal shards/throwing daggers on you. Any golem like enemy in the game can be pinged 4-5 times with them, and they’ll turn hostile to everything - including other enemies.

Much easier to deal with when they beat the snot out of each other haha.

I never utilise anything like that because I have 0 brain capacity to do anything other than roll, block, stab and jump.

It took me long enough to realise that yes actually using the ash of war on my shield was a game changer and get it into my muscle memory.

I was born to hit things hard with a sword and very little else.

Well, good news for the level after Giants Forge is that works pretty well. There’s nothing super tricksy.

Bad news is there’s a few big things and some things do hit like a truck.

Things that hit like a truck do not concern me, I’m built different. Things that heal themselves from hitting me like a truck do, and that is why Melenia is very likely to end my winning streak.

Be emboldened…
By the flame of ambition.

What emboldens me is my friends telling me I can’t beat her in two attempts. Which only makes me stronger.

I’m so committed to the bit that I am going to stream myself fighting her to prove that I’m not just yanking their chain, and either they watch me finally get humbled live which is hilarious, or I actually pull it off and it’s legendary. I can’t lose.
