Sadly and for no reason,grey/white items which are obtainable and usable only during yearly events,can be used for transmog only that time.
They better remove that trash ‘rule’ and allow us to transmog these items whenever we want.
For now the best thing you can do is the suggestion Papudeath mentioned,just click ‘Same model as’.
