I understand that fully. I’ve had days like that, especially when I first started out. It could take me up to 45 minutes after walking around Stormwind to pluck up the courage to approach someone.

But at the same time, if the anxiousness is the only thing that’s keeping you from it, I advise you find a guild that understands the anxiety, plenty of GMs understand and are patient about it, and roleplaying can be a really welcoming and accepting hobby, and I think you might enjoy it once you get past that barrier - granted it can be a bloody big barrier, I know that all too well.

Either way, I hope you enjoy your time on Argent Dawn, from your post you don’t strike me as the sort to grief RP or the likes, and I hope you can get past that anxiousness some day. It’s a real bugger.

Oh no not at all, I have my fullest respect to those who wish to roleplay as I understand it’s just another way to enjoy their time and I don’t want to be the kind of person who poses a negative influence on people.

I’ve wanted to try roleplaying for real but I’ve never been able to get past more than a few times on a character.

Would you like to be introduced to RP by doing a test run of sorts, together with someone who knows the ropes?

Like, you and the other person agree on some simple background & small mission. The more experienced RPer can then guide you through it, interacting with each other and with strangers alike. If you don’t know what to do/say, you can ask your companion OOC, in /whisper or party chat, and they can shoot some advice your way.

For instance: we are two clerics from Northshire who were sent to Stormwind to buy the Abbot a birthday gift, but we don’t really know what to get him, so we’ve decided to go look around.

How I picture it would go

First, you and the experienced player (Me for example) establish some basic things about our clerics’ personalities. Maybe you’d like to RP someone curious, easily impressed, and shy?
Your companion RPer could then complement that by creating someone who’s snarky, easily amused, and outgoing.

On our walk through Stormwind, going from shop to shop, some unscripted and interesting things may happen:

  • Maybe we stumble upon an ongoing fight! What do our characters do?
  • We might happen see a death knight threatening somebody, causing our clerics to argue about whether we should intervene or not.
  • Or someone asks us for instructions on how to get somewhere, and we aren’t exactly sure either but we got time to burn, so we accompany her to the place she wants to go.
  • Or my cleric wants to drop by the graveyard to say a prayer.
  • Or your cleric suddenly remembers that his sister wants a candle from the Cathedral, so we go inside to buy/ask for one.
  • At the Cathedral some wounded character might stumble in, asking for mending. Are our clerics up to the challenge, or do we send them on to a local priest?

When we’ve had enough of Stormwind, and when we’ve bought a birthday gift (or failed to), we walk back to Northshire and then we part ways. The curtain drops.

This would all take place in a single RP sessions of 1-2 hours on any night of the week. I think it’s a fun way to “try on” a character and personality. Not all too complicated a quest, not purposeless wandering alone either. You don’t have to keep the character we created for the scenario, but you can if you want to, of course.

If you think it sounds fun and you’d like to give it a try (even if you’re a bit anxious!) just say the word and we can do this, or any other scenario we come up with.

Personally I love hanging out with new RPers and showing 'em the ropes. So I’m up for this kind of thing any day.

The offer is open to anyone who’d like to dip their toes into RP but doesn’t know how, or feels unsure or anxious about how to get into it.

How did you end up with 7 characters?
You surely realised the realm/RP wasn’t for you long before they all spawned?

I dunno bro, it took me 11 years to realise I hate RP

I didn’t know I hated roleplay until I became a forum lurker

Genuinely surprised this thread is still standing and that the alt-right druid poster had to make 7 alts before realising RP wasn’t their cup of tea.

It makes more sense if you just add an ‘e’ to every mention of ‘rp’ in their posts.

Shudder I’d rather not consider that option.

When do you think it’s gonna come back with a new round of the same stuff?

Hopefully never, but I’d give a few hours maybe a day - provided the thread is still up at that point.

We can only dream for a day when the clowns stop returning.

Can I take over the clown post when that happens, I have a nose and a rainbow afro wig somewhere.

Go for it. I think you could be a really funny clown!

Maybe even challenge the grand-master Kump himself?
